No more Aadhaar photocopies: UIDAI plans to launch app-based verification via QR code
In the coming weeks, Aadhaar holders will be able to share their identity electronically instead of handing over photocopies. A new mobile app from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will let users send either a full or a masked version of the document through a QR code, a TOI report stated.
Aadhaar updates from home by November
UIDAI will introduce a protocol that lets people update their address, phone number, name and date of birth from home. By November, the only in‑person step will be giving fingerprints and iris scans at an enrolment centre.
The move aims to cut paperwork, lower the risk of forged documents and make the process faster for citizens. UIDAI draws data directly from records such as birth certificates, driving licences, passports, PAN, PDS and MNREGA. Talks are also on to link electricity‑bill databases for smoother address checks.
New UIDAI app rolls out
UIDAI chief executive officer Bhuvnesh Kumar said the agency has shifted about 2,000 of its one lakh enrolment machines to the new app. 'You will soon be able to do everything sitting at home other than providing fingerprints and IRIS,' he told The Times of India. The QR‑code method is set to work for hotel check‑ins, property deals and even identity checks on trains.
QR Code method
The QR code is designed to limit misuse. 'It offers maximum user control over your own data and can be shared only with consent,' Kumar added. UIDAI is urging states to use the system at property‑registration offices, where document fraud is common.
Live Events
Focus on children's records
UIDAI is also planning drives with school boards such as CBSE to complete mandatory biometric updates for children aged five to seven and again at 15 to 17. Officials estimate eight crore first‑round updates and 10 crore second‑round updates are still pending.
Security agencies, hotels and other service providers that are not required to use Aadhaar are in talks with UIDAI to join the system. The wider network is meant to strengthen verification while keeping control with the individual.

From high stress to headstands: Hyderabad techies quit corporate jobs to become yoga teachers; here's what they say
HYDERABAD: Even as corporate India grapples with whether to work 70 hours a week or not, many young professionals in Hyderabad are making a mid-career shift and becoming full-time yoga instructors. If it means a pay cut, so be it. Those 15-hour workdays packed with PowerPoint presentations, deadlines and unending meetings have finally got to them. TOI spoke to many techies who have swapped high-pressure jobs for the calm, flexible life of full-time yoga. Mrudula Neelam, 31, was a techie with a major corporate and spent nearly four years buried in spreadsheets and regulatory frameworks at a multinational firm. "My body just couldn't take the 14-15 hour work days any more," she says. "I was constantly sick and stressed. The turning point came during 'Wellness Fridays' at her workplace, where she began teaching yoga to colleagues. Already certified, she started taking it more seriously. A scholarship for an Ashtanga immersion course in Bali sealed the deal. "It all shifted from being a weekend side hustle to a full-time career for me." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Mrudula now runs classes from her online studio, teaches in-person sessions, and even travels to retreats and workshops in other cities. At 25kmph, Hyderabad tops metro cities in traffic speed The city's average traffic speed of 25 kmph is the highest among major metropolitan cities in India, Hyderabad commissioner of police CV Anand said on Friday. He was speaking at the 'Traffic Action Plan' meeting held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre, Banjara Hills. "Despite the city adding nearly 1,600 new vehicles to the roads every day, we aim to improve the average speed to 27 kmph," Anand said. "Currently, about 91 lakh vehicles ply on Hyderabad roads daily, which shows a 45% surge since the Covid pandemic. The key to managing this growing volume lies in effective signal management," he added. At the event, Hyderabad city police also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Google to implement Operation Green Light, a collaborative initiative aimed at optimising traffic signals. "Every time someone uses Google Maps for navigation, data is generated about traffic flow and congestion," a senior police official explained. "With this MoU, we will use that real-time data to manage signal timings better. This will not only help reduce waiting time at signals but also cut down on greenhouse gas emissions," he said. Officials said the system will also help monitor sudden incidents or route deviations, allowing quicker alerts and responses by the traffic police. Highlighting other traffic management efforts, the city police commissioner said, "We are currently using two drones and 25 high-rise CCTV cameras for surveillance, and more will be added soon." He also lauded the role of transgender assistants deployed at traffic signals, a govt initiative introduced in Dec 2024. Anand assured that the police are also preparing for the upcoming monsoon season with appropriate precautionary measures.

NPCI Introduces Real-Time PAN-Bank Account Linking On Income Tax Portal; Details Here
Last Updated: NPCI has directed banks to enable real-time PAN and bank account validation for the income tax e-filing portal using a dedicated API to enhance verification speed and accuracy. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed all member banks to enable real-time PAN and bank account validation for the income tax department's e-filing portal. According to a circular issued by NPCI, government departments will now be able to use a dedicated API service to verify key customer details such as PAN status, account validation, and account holder name directly through banks' Core Banking Systems (CBS). This step is expected to enhance the speed and accuracy of identity verification for tax and subsidy-related processes. 'This API will be used by government departments to verify the customer account details like PAN validation/Account Status Validation/Account holder name validation from their bank CBS," the circular noted. Banks Asked to Prioritise Integration All NPCI member banks have been advised to treat the implementation as a priority task, given that the service is being extended to the Government of India. 'As this is a service provided to the Government of India all the member banks are advised to necessary steps for implementation on priority," the NPCI added. Technical specifications and guidelines for the API integration will be shared separately with the banks to help them align with the required systems. NPCI also clarified that the circular can be shared internally by banks and financial institutions to ensure all stakeholders are informed. 'Technical specifications and comprehensive integration guidelines for the NACH PAN & Account Verification API shall be shared separately with the banks," it added. Why This Matters This integration will make processes like income tax refunds, direct benefit transfers, and other financial verifications faster and more reliable by removing delays and errors caused by manual or outdated systems. It also comes at a time when the government is pushing for increased use of API-based real-time data exchange to boost governance and financial inclusion. For any questions related to the implementation, NPCI has requested banks to use the CRM Tracker system.

I-T's benami unit attaches 170 acre of land in MP linked to private firm
Bhopal: In a major crackdown on alleged benami transactions , the Benami Prohibition Unit of the Income Tax department has provisionally attached 170 acres of land in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, under Section 24(3) of the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions (PBPT) Act, 1988. The attached land is part of a larger block of approximately 700 acres across 112 khasras, originally purchased in 2011 for Rs 10.35 crore. The transactions were made in the names of Kardam Mishra and Ajay Kumar — both salaried employees of a wholly-owned subsidiary firm of a major private company. According to the department's findings, Mishra and Kumar were employees with nominal salaries, and their financial profiles did not support such a substantial investment in immovable property. During investigation, Mishra admitted under oath that the properties were purchased by senior officials of the private company in their names. A forensic financial analysis revealed that payments to the original landowners were made directly from the company's bank accounts. Subsequently, these properties were registered in the name of Prosperous Energy Pvt. Ltd. Meanwhile, the "consideration amount" was shown as routed through the bank accounts of Mishra and Kumar, only to be transferred back to the company in multiple tranches, indicating a classic case of layered benami transactions. The Income Tax department has determined that the real ownership and beneficial use of these properties rested with the private company and its subsidiary. This arrangement falls squarely under the definition of a "benami transaction" as per Section 2(9)(A) of the PBPT Act. A show-cause notice under Section 24(1) has been served to both the benamidars and the beneficial owners. Adding another layer to the case, it was discovered that the company had secured a short-term loan of Rs 925 crore from IDBI Bank by mortgaging these properties, along with others belonging to private firm. Due to default in repayment, IDBI Bank auctioned several of these properties. However, 46 khasras, covering approximately 170 acres, remained unsold and have now been provisionally attached to prevent any further alienation. Further proceedings under the PBPT Act are underway.
