The proposed scheme will include a new footpath, Pedestrian crossings, placemaking including landscaping and street lighting in front of Kiltealy school and extending to the village centre. The survey had a 97.9% response rate. 84.2% of respondents surveyed agreed that road safety is a problem around the school. 100 respondents would support work at the front of the school to improve student safety, putting pedestrians and cyclists first. 98.2% of respondents would support works that improve walking and cycling to school. 21% indicated that they live within 1 km of the school.
More than 900 schools applied and were accepted on to the programme. Kiltealy was one of the schools selected in round 2. This proposed scheme will be a great improvement overall to Kiltealy village, but especially for the safety of children and adults alike. Prince of Wales celebrates 43rd birthday with new puppy picture

The photograph, taken by the Princess of Wales, was shared by Kensington Palace on William's birthday on Saturday, with the caption: 'Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!' One of the chocolate cocker spaniel puppies is being stroked by the Prince of Wales while their mother Orla is behind him. The Prince and Princess of Wales have had Orla since 2020, after their first dog together Lupo, also a cocker spaniel – which they were given as a wedding present from Kate's brother James Middleton – died unexpectedly. Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies! 🐾 — The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) June 21, 2025 Orla gave birth to four puppies last month and the photograph was taken in Windsor on a sunny day earlier in June. It appears to be a quieter birthday for the Prince of Wales than last year, when he took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to see Taylor Swift at Wembley stadium. William had faced a challenging 12 months in the lead-up to turning 42, with both Kate and his father the King diagnosed with cancer. In the week of his birthday this year, the Prince of Wales joined the King and Queen at Royal Ascot on Wednesday. His wife missed the event for the second successive year and was said to have been disappointed not to join her family at the famous sporting and social event in Berkshire. On Thursday, the Prince of Wales was in Norwich with Earthshot Prize council member Cate Blanchett to see the hi-tech work of one of the 2023 prize finalists. The pair donned lab coats to see how Colorifix, an eco-friendly textile dye company, makes its products. William admitted he needed a 'layman's version' of the scientific explanations and later apologised to staff for 'all the stupid questions'.

How could an explosive Big Bang be the birth of our universe?

Curious Kids is a series for children of all ages. If you have a question you'd like an expert to answer, send it to curiouskidsus@ How can a Big Bang have been the start of the universe, since intense explosions destroy everything? – Tristan S., age 8, Newark, Delaware Pretend you're a perfectly flat chess piece in a game of chess on a perfectly flat and humongous chessboard. One day you look around and ask: How did I get here? How did the chessboard get here? How did it all start? You pull out your telescope and begin to explore your universe, the chessboard…. What do you find? Your universe, the chessboard, is getting bigger. And over more time, even bigger! The board is expanding in all directions that you can see. There's nothing that seems to be causing this expansion as far as you can tell – it just seems to be the nature of the chessboard. But wait a minute. If it's getting bigger, and has been getting bigger and bigger, then that means in the past, it must have been smaller and smaller and smaller. At some time, long, long ago, at the very beginning, it must have been so small that it was infinitely small. Let's work forward from what happened then. At the beginning of your universe, the chessboard was infinitely tiny and then expanded, growing bigger and bigger until the day that you decided to make some observations about the nature of your chess universe. All the stuff in the universe – the little particles that make up you and everything else – started very close together and then spread farther apart as time went on. Our universe works exactly the same way. When astronomers like me make observations of distant galaxies, we see that they are all moving apart. It seems our universe started very small and has been expanding ever since. In fact, scientists now know that not only is the universe expanding, but the speed at which it's expanding is increasing. This mysterious effect is caused by something physicists call dark energy, though we know very little else about it. Astronomers also observe something called the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation. It's a very low level of energy that exists all throughout space. We know from those measurements that our universe is 13.8 billion years old – way, way older than people, and about three times older than the Earth. If astronomers look back all the way to the event that started our universe, we call that the Big Bang. Many people hear the name 'Big Bang' and think about a giant explosion of stuff, like a bomb going off. But the Big Bang wasn't an explosion that destroyed things. It was the beginning of our universe, the start of both space and time. Rather than an explosion, it was a very rapid expansion, the event that started the universe growing bigger and bigger. This expansion is different than an explosion, which can be caused by things like chemical reactions or large impacts. Explosions result in energy going from one place to another, and usually a lot of it. Instead, during the Big Bang, energy moved along with space as it expanded, moving around wildly but becoming more spread out over time since space was growing over time. Back in the chessboard universe, the 'Big Bang' would be like the beginning of everything. It's the start of the board getting bigger. It's important to realize that 'before' the Big Bang, there was no space and there was no time. Coming back to the chessboard analogy, you can count the amount of time on the game clock after the start but there is no game time before the start – the clock wasn't running. And, before the game had started, the chessboard universe hadn't existed and there was no chessboard space either. You have to be careful when you say 'before' in this context because time didn't even exist until the Big Bang. You also have wrap your mind around the idea that the universe isn't expanding 'into' anything, since as far as we know the Big Bang was the start of both space and time. Confusing, I know! Astronomers aren't sure what caused the Big Bang. We just look at observations and see that's how the universe did start. We know it was extremely small and got bigger, and we know that kicked off 13.8 billion years ago. What started our own game of chess? That's one of the deepest questions anyone can ask. Setchu stages first runway show in Milan menswear

Six months ago, when Satoshi Kuwata made his global runway show debut with Setchu in Florence, he swore it would be his last live show. This Friday in Milan, he opened the latest menswear runway season. Like in his debut, the Japanese designer has gone fishing for inspiration. This time, it was not in the Pacific but near Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where the discovery of striking straw-using artisans was the wellspring of this dramatic collection. Presented inside a 100-year-plus atelier in Milan, the co-ed show opened with a leggy lass in an oversized man's shirt, cut with kimono-worthy sleeves, followed by a matinee idol Asian male model in brilliant giant white cotton pants that hung off the waist. Note to all fashionistas: the elephantine pant is again essential in every man's wardrobe. Kuwata played accomplishedly with a series of colonial motifs – safari jackets or rangers' coats – cutting them loose and disentangled. In a sense, the biggest news of this collection was how the female models looked even better in Setchu's masculine tailoring than the male models. One gal in a khaki look that riffed on Grace Kelly in John Ford's classic film, Mogambo, looked utterly divine, her allure enhanced by a triplet of straw bags she carried in her right hand. She was followed by a raven-haired lass in a white mini-tunic cocktail dress wrapped in a wildly woven basket. 'It's a new side of Setchu. I was under a lot of pressure from friends to show again. But what attracted me was how much I could express, even with a small budget. The goal is always to make something emotional,' said Japan-born Satoshi. Kuwata is one of fashion's great image-makers, and his noble African in a slim blazer paired with a white T-shirt and midnight blue dhoti shorts was a look of great understated elegance — especially on a Milan Friday when temperatures soared up to 38 Celsius. 'I love playful functionality, but timeless and with another joy,' he expounded in his sibylline manner. Trained by Huntsman and Davies & Son — the latter being the oldest tailor on Savile Row — Satoshi is an excellent pattern cutter, a skill few of his contemporaries will ever achieve. Though this season, he insisted he wanted sculpting, not just tailoring. 'Victoria Falls is one of the best fishing destinations to catch tiger fish. And I met this tribe — the Batonga — and their way of weaving baskets, which is quite different from any other country. So, the construction is random, which is what I wanted in this collection — organic random shapes,' insisted Satoshi, the 2023 LVMH Prize winner.
