Finnish Trade Minister Heads to Morocco with Business Delegation
Rabat — Finnish Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio is making an official visit to Morocco from April 28-30, 2025, to explore investment opportunities in the North African country.
The delegation will include companies, aiming to boost Finnish exports and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
During his stay in Morocco's capital, Tavio plans to meet with several high-ranking government officials.
On the agenda, the Finnish minister has scheduled talks with Morocco's Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour, Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Energy Transition Minister Leila Benali, and Budget Minister Faouzi Lekjaa.
The talks will tackle opportunities to develop bilateral and commercial ties between the two countries, with the goal of building new strategic partnerships.
Following Rabat, the delegation will visit Casablanca, where Tavio and Finnish business representatives will participate in several economic promotional meetings.
A keypoint of the mission includes a Finland-Morocco economic forum, which will be organized in collaboration with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) to explore new investment and business opportunities.
The minister's program also includes a strategic visit to Tanger Med port, Africa's main Atlantic seaboard shipping hub. This stop will exhibit the active involvement of several Finnish companies in the port and logistics sectors.
Tavio recalled Morocco's significance for Finnish businesses, saying, 'Morocco is a particularly interesting market for our companies,' especially for its strategic location in North Africa, serving as a gateway to Africa.

Speaking of potential opportunities for investment in the country, the Finnish minister mentioned that Morocco is on its way in developing infrastructure projects to meet international standards in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the country will co-host with Spain and Portugal. 'Finnish companies can offer excellent solutions,' he said.
The delegation, coordinated by Business Finland, brings together several leading economic players. Among the companies represented are AMG Technologies, Confoot, Ecosir Group, Kalmar, Metso, Nokia, Vaisala, Wirepas, and Wärtsilä.
These firms operate in various sectors ranging from industrial technologies to logistics, energy transition, and digital transformation. They hope to seize the many opportunities offered by Morocco's economic dynamism.
In February of this year, both countries showed willingness to boost business collaboration in key sectors such as water, health, and digitalization.
Stakeholders convened in 'Doing Business with Finland' seminar in Casablanca with the aim of nurturing business partnerships and knowledge exchange between Morocco and Finland.
Through this high-level visit, Finland confirms its growing interest in Morocco and Africa, with a vision of mutually beneficial exchanges and new horizons for cooperation. Tags: businesseconomyFinlandMorocco

Benkirane Defends Pro-Iran Statements, Says Israel Has ‘No Future in the Region'
Rabat – In a speech delivered in Fez on Sunday, Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary General of Morocco's Justice and Development Party (PJD), reaffirmed his support for Morocco in any bilateral dispute with Iran, while also voicing religious solidarity with Tehran in its confrontation with Israel. The former head of government attempted to walk a political tightrope, blending patriotism with pan-Islamic rhetoric as he responded to widespread criticism over his recent pro-Iran statements. Benkirane, known for his conservative base and populist tone, clarified that he stands with Morocco 'against any hostile power,' including Iran, but only if a direct conflict arises between the two countries. 'Tensions between Iran and Morocco are not bilateral,' he argued. 'Iran is currently engaged in a broader geopolitical standoff with Israel , which is backed by the United States.' Despite Iran's long-standing support for Morocco's regional rivals, including the Polisario Front and its main ally Algeria, Benkirane insisted his support towards Iran stems from religious grounds. 'We disagree with Iran's doctrinal positions and theological innovations,' he said, 'but we support them in the name of Islam because they raise the Islamic banner and stand with the Palestinian cause.' Benkirane's remarks came with a heavy dose of religious rhetoric, positioning Israel as a 'criminal regime' built on 'civilian killings, blockades, and starvation.' He asserted that Israel has 'no future in the region,' likening its eventual downfall to the expulsion of the Mongols, Crusaders, and colonial powers from Muslim lands. While reaffirming his staunch opposition to re-igniting diplomatic ties with Israel, the PJD leader warned: 'If you believe eliminating Iran or Hamas will solve your problem, you are delusional. The Ummah has over two billion people.' Tags: Abddelilah BenkiraneGazaIran Israel War

Morocco and CEMAC sign cooperation pact to boost economic ties and regional integration
A cooperation agreement was signed on Friday in Laayoune between the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the business associations of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) countries. This took place on the sidelines of the Parliamentary Forum on economic cooperation between Morocco and the regional bloc's Parliament. Signed by CGEM President Chakib Alj and representatives of the CEMAC business associations, the agreement establishes a Morocco-CEMAC Task Force as a joint platform for dialogue, coordination, and economic cooperation. Its mission is to structure collaboration, encourage information exchange, share best practices and business opportunities, support joint projects between companies from both regions, and serve as a proactive interface between Moroccan and CEMAC business communities. The agreement also creates a Steering Committee, co-chaired by a CGEM representative and one from each CEMAC business association. This committee will set up sectoral working groups, bringing together business leaders, experts, and institutional partners around priority themes. The parties commit to cooperating on identifying high-potential sectors of complementarity such as agro-industry, infrastructure, renewable energy, manufacturing industries, and digital services. They also pledged to facilitate business partnerships through matchmaking programs and B2B meetings, organize regular economic forums, and promote cross-investment, regional integration, and support for technology and skills transfer via training, expertise exchange, and industrial co-development projects. In a statement to MAP during the ceremony, Chakib Alj highlighted the complementarities between Morocco's and CEMAC economies, emphasizing the agreement to identify practical actions to boost economic ties. «Our goal is to create momentum between Moroccan companies and their CEMAC counterparts, fostering synergy and knowledge exchange», said the CGEM president. Similarly, Jean Daniel Ovaga, Chairman of the Congolese National Union of Economic Operators (UNOC), stressed that the agreement enables the private sector—a key driver of economic growth and value creation—to fully contribute to identifying priority cooperation sectors benefiting Morocco and CEMAC populations. «This is a strong commitment to move forward together, rebuild Africa, and bring growth and expertise to local communities», he stated. The Parliamentary Forum on economic cooperation between Morocco and the CEMAC Parliament aims to promote joint development projects and contribute to Africa's economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
