‘How are you going, miss?': Chilling moment armed teens attempt to smash way into home in Toowoomba, Qld

Chilling footage has captured the moment a group of teenagers, armed with knives and shovels, attempted to smash their way into an elderly couple's home under the cover of darkness.
The teenagers can seen wearing hoodies tightly-wound to conceal their faces as they gather outside the home in Toowoomba on Friday night.
In a bizarre moment, one addresses the occupants on the video doorbell footage, saying: 'How're you going miss?'
The resident responds with: 'I think you better go. I'll have to call the police'.
Holding shovels, one of the teenagers tells the other to: 'Smash the window, smash the window with a shovel'.
Although unsuccessful in their attempt, the teens take a picture of the house before leaving with one teenager remarking the couple had a 'Volkswagen'.
It is alleged the teenagers had also approached another house up the straight in Harristown five minutes earlier – with footage allegedly capturing one teen stabbing the door with a knife.
Michelle, who lives a suburb over, told 9News that the group were allegedly 'bashing and trying to get into the door'.
'They had a knife and yelling out they wanted the car keys,' she said.
Michelle's partner went outside to make sure the teenagers had left.
He did not realise they were allegedly armed until seeing the footage.
'Quite a decent-sized knife, yeah it's just terrible and there's a few around last night unfortunately,' she said.
'There's certainly no feeling of optimism that anything is going to get any better.'
Michelle also told Sunrise she was initially scared and in disbelief, but says she is now angry.
'The neighbourhoods really quiet there's a few young families around, a few elderly people,' she said
'After it happened, on the (neighbour's) advice we went to the police, just in case they tried to attempt something at their houses as well.'
While Michelle admits feel rattled by the events, she says she wants action taken.
'I know that they can't get in, they tried and they failed so (I'm) not as vulnerable as Friday night,' she said.
'(I want) tougher penalties, knowing that they are going to get in trouble, that they may potentially spend a period of time in jail.
'I'd like to see a complete knife ban in public. That would be great. Just to try and take some of these weapons off the street. So a potential home invasion isn't going to be one that could lead to something a lot worse.'
Queensland Police have said investigations remain ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
9News reported that the police have said that the group are also being investigated for a break and enter in Kingthorpe and were last seen driving a Kia Cerato.
The car was stolen on Friday morning with the number plate KORD43, and has been spotted in Newtown and Kearneys Spring in a continued crime spree across the Downs.
No arrests have been made.

Police share new CCTV after gruesome attack on bikie trying to leave gang

New CCTV footage of a group allegedly planning a gruesome attack on a man intending to leave a bikie gang has emerged after he was found with his tattoos burned and shot off outside an emergency room. Police shared the new footage on Friday as they work to find those responsible for the gruesome alleged attack more than a month on. Leslie 'Lethal Les' Grantham, a 51-year-old senior member of the Comanchero bikie gang, was found outside the Rockingham Hospital, in Perth's south, about 10pm on May 14 with multiple gun shot wounds to his upper body and leg, as well as burns, police said. In the new footage, which police allege shows bikies planning the alleged attack, three cars, a white SUV, a black ute and a white ute are seen arriving in a car park at Auburn Grove Train Station. A group emerges from the white ute, which is first to leave the car park, and those people are seen getting into the white SUV shortly after. One person exits the black ute and appears to pass something to the group in the SUV as it also leaves the car park before driving off as well. The white ute, with number plates 1BFC417, was later captured pulling into Rockingham Hospital, allegedly with Mr Grantham inside. It has not been seen since. Police allege Mr Grantham had been trying to leave the outlaw motorcycle gang when the group turned on him. It is alleged his tattoos were burned off, he was repeatedly shot and set alight before finally being dumped and left for dead outside the hospital. Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Thompson told media at the time of the attack anyone who was considering joining an outlaw motorcycle group should heed the 'callous' attack as a warning. The senior sergeant said Mr Grantham was well known to police and had been left with life-changing injuries. 'He's got burns to his legs, and we suspect that's a product of other people trying to remove his tattoos,' he alleged. 'He was a patch member, and he was a senior member, and he held a position of authority within that club. 'If you're thinking about joining an outlaw motorcycle gang, think again, this person has now been left with life-changing injuries … solely because he was a member.' Mr Grantham has since been released from hospital, but is refusing to co-operate with authorities.

Paramedic who rescued farmer trapped in grain silo receives highest honour

Vaughan Mason will never forget the triple-0 call that led him to be standing in a silo, frantically scooping grain by hand and using a piece of poly pipe as a makeshift breathing tube to keep a trapped farmer alive. He was the lone paramedic dispatched to a property on the outskirts of Baralaba in central Queensland after a man became trapped in a grain silo in February 2023. Mr Mason was part of a small group of rescuers desperately trying to save grain grower John Lawson. Mr Lawson had stepped into the silo to help release the grain, not realising there was a void underneath. He was quickly buried above his neck. "I could imagine if you're drowning in water, it'd be much the same," Mr Lawson recalled. "A lot of things go through your mind, and you think to yourself, 'Hey, Jesus, this might be it.'" For the first time since the accident, Mr Lawson has reunited with the paramedic who helped save his life. It was an emotional moment for the pair as they stood on the property where it happened, reflecting on how close it came to tragedy. "It's a very, very humbling moment, and it just cements [the fact that] I don't want to think that what we do is in vain." Mr Mason, who is the Baralaba officer in charge, recently received an Australian Service Medal at Government House in Brisbane. The Ambulance Service Medal is the highest recognition a paramedic can receive. The award recognised his service to the Baralaba community, including the grain silo rescue. Gwen Tennent works as a nurse at the Baralaba Multipurpose Health Service. In the small town of about 300 people, she wears a few hats — she is also the president of the Local Ambulance Committee and a volunteer emergency driver. She works closely with Mr Mason and said his presence had become a reassuring constant in the community. "He's very important here, people, they just take to him. I don't think it'd be the same [here] if they had a different officer in charge," Ms Tennent said. "The people really like Vaughan here." She said Mr Mason often went above and beyond the normal call of duty. "He does so much that we don't see … he's always teaching when he's on his days off, and he doesn't know how to say no," she said. Mr Mason runs regular community education sessions on the banks of the Baralaba River and is passionate about building community resilience. "There's an older couple next door, he goes in there just to see if they're OK," Ms Tennent said. "They're in their 90s and he'll try and fix whatever they need — if they need a meal, he'll go and get it for them." More than five years ago, he taught a Victorian grey nomad CPR and how to use a defibrillator when he was visiting the town. When the man returned home, more than 1,900 kilometres away, he used that training to save a woman's life at a bingo event. Mr Mason said the community's response to his award was heartwarming. Mr Lawson, who is a lifelong volunteer in Baralaba's ambulance committee, said Mr Mason was an asset to the town. "The training that he does with people is fantastic, the communications that he's got with the public is great," he said. "I could rattle on all day, but no, he's a good bloke." NSW Police said officers responded about 5.30am after 'a man was found suffering a stab wound to his abdomen' at the corner of George and Angel streets. 'Police rendered first aid until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and the man was taken to St Vincents Hospital for further treatment,' a spokesman said. 'A crime scene was established and police immediately commenced an investigation into the incident. 'Following inquiries, police believe the stabbing happened at a bus stop outside Wynyard Railway Station on Carrington Street.'
