Madius urges manpower boost for native land survey programme

He noted a drop in manpower—from 60 to 40 in survey teams, and from 8 to 3 in documentation staff—hampering effective implementation.
Advertisement This shortfall, he said, has prevented full utilization of the RM100 million federal allocation under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021–2025), with only RM68 million spent so far. Speaking at a PANTAS dialogue in Kg. Lokos, Madius emphasized the programme's importance in issuing land grants to native Sabahans, which has benefited over 84,000 landowners across 484,025 acres since 2011. Critics are now calling Anwar's regime the ‘kuku besi' regime

MALAYSIAN authorities are cracking down on online critics of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration, with politicians and citizens facing police questioning or charges. Former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli voiced his concerns after a pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporter's wife filed a police report following a visit by officers from both the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police at their home. Rafizi on June 9 highlighted the case of the X user Amer Hamzah, who voiced his views on the PKR elections. Rafizi also identified other social media accounts allegedly targeted for commenting on the recent elections within PKR. The clampdown coincides with controversy over the Mobile Phone Data (MPD) project, which collects mobile data from telcos without an opt-out, raising privacy and surveillance concerns. Despite government assurances, critics remain sceptical. Recently, MCMC blocked two Telegram channels, Edisi Siasat (1.18 million members) and Edisi Khas, for allegedly violating local laws. On June 19, MCMC obtained a court order against Telegram for spreading harmful content, compelling the platform to block the controversial whistleblowing channel Edisi Siasat. This action mirrors the 2015 blocking of Sarawak Report during the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal under former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration. At least six individuals, including Pahang MCA Youth chief Wong Siew Mun, faced police questioning over social media posts criticising the government's MPD project, which collects anonymous mobile data without opt-out until 2026. Critics fear privacy breaches and surveillance, despite assurances of data security. Wong, questioned on June 18 for a TikTok video, called for parliamentary debate. Amid rising discontent and coalition tensions, social media censorship has surged, challenging Anwar's free speech and reform commitments. 'They (the authorities) have to stop the data collection. Why is there a need for large-scale monitoring?' said Wong, whose party is aligned with the Anwar-led unity government. 'This involves public interest and trust. We are trying to foster public discourse on this… We have a role to play in making sure the government is doing the right thing,' she told The Straits Times. On June 18, 2025, Wong was questioned by police over a TikTok video where she criticised the government's MPD project. She questioned whether Malaysia is undergoing genuine reforms or sliding into 'dictatorship', highlighting concerns over the non-consensual collection of mobile data from telcos, raising fears of privacy violations and surveillance. While Madani is taking the same path Najib's regime took, more people are now voicing concerns over the banishment of freedom of expression online. With the Edisi Siasat 2.0 channel now inaccessible, more people are voicing support for the channel. An X user said the Anwar regime's iron grip is no joke these days, calling it 'kuku besi'. The Telegram channel Edisi Siasat 2, which just started breathing two days ago and already hit over 100,000 subscribers, got buried yesterday after they managed to drop one post (complete with a phone number) of Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that the SMJ roadmap has yielded notable outcomes, particularly in economic recovery, investment, agriculture, human capital development, and public welfare. He highlighted increased investment activities and higher state revenue as indicators of the policy's effectiveness since its launch. Hajiji made the remarks during his address at the State Honours and Awards Ceremony in conjunction with the 74th official birthday of Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday. He said the government is also focused on developing the agricultural sector, with key initiatives including the establishment of the Sabah Rice and Padi Board and the launch of the Padi Crop Takaful Scheme. These efforts aim to raise the state's rice self-sufficiency level from 24 per cent in 2025 to 60 per cent by 2030 and reduce reliance on imports. Only Sabahans know state's woes: Masidi

RANAU: The people of Sabah must give full support to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government because only local leadership understands the real needs of the state as well as the people here. Sabah Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Deputy President and Karanaan PGRS Division Head Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said, as the state election looming, a new mandate must be given to the coalition in order to keep the prosperity going. Masidi highlighted the GRS government's achievements over the past 3 years despite various challenges. He noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic in September 2020, movement restrictions significantly impacted operations, but the government still managed to function effectively for nearly 4 years. He emphasized that the GRS government's achievements in 2 to 3 years were among the best in Sabah's history. Key accomplishments included increased government revenue, record-breaking public savings, and nearly triple the reserves compared to previous administrations. Regarding infrastructure, particularly water management, Masidi also addressed issues concerning electricity, roads and clean water supplies. He reminded the people that Sabah Electricity is not entirely under the state government, but it is more under the federal's Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). In regards to the road problem, he said that such problems have also existed during the previous administrations, but today more road network and upgrading has been done, despite not being noticed by the oppositions. Concerning water issues, he explained that previous administration's decisions to terminate water management contracts led to current problems and legal claims totalling around RM300 million in compensation. He announced new developments, including a water treatment plant in Ranau from the Nakamura River that will provide consistent water supply regardless of weather conditions. Towards that end, Masidi emphasized the importance of political stability and professional governance for continued progress. The conference concluded with a call for unity within the party and focus on selecting capable candidates for upcoming elections. He stressed that elections are not beauty contests but rather about choosing hardworking individuals who can drive progress.
