Chiefs Predicted to Lose AFC West - But Not to Chargers

Chiefs Predicted to Lose AFC West - But Not to Chargers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The AFC West has been one of the most competitive divisions in football for a number of years now.
Unfortunately, it is often overlooked because the Kansas City Chiefs have been dominating each team in it since Patrick Mahomes became the starter in 2018.

The Chiefs have won the division nine years in a row and most of those seasons, the other three teams weren't remotely close to winning.
If there ever was a team who could upset them, most people expect it to be the Los Angeles Chargers because of their stout defense and elite quarterback, Justin Herbert.
However, a writer for NFL.com believes someone else in the division will dethrone the Chiefs and it will happen this season.

Jeffri Chadiha of NFL.com predicted that the Denver Broncos will win the division for the first time in a decade.
The last time they won the division, they ended up winning the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning at the helm, but they just got back to the playoffs for the first time last year.

The playoff run was thanks large in part to rookie quarterback Bo Nix who proved the world wrong and became one of the better signal callers in the league last year.
Combine that with one of the best defenses in football and Denver has a chance to be a serious player in the AFC for years to come.
The Broncos already play the Chiefs extremely tough, but they've added some all-world pieces to an already outstanding defense.
They signed safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw who were both considered by many to be the best at their position in free agency.
Denver already shattered expectations last season with their 10-7 record, so all these additions on defense and a year of development under Nix's belt sounds like a recipe for success

Latest Trade Proposal from Media Sends Micah Parsons To NFC Rival

Latest Trade Proposal from Media Sends Micah Parsons To NFC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Micah Parsons has been the lifeblood for the Dallas Cowboys defense since arriving at The Star four years ago. Few players league-wide on either side of the ball have the same tangible impact as Parsons on the field. Advertisement The time has come for the defensive star to get his first of likely multiple major pay days in his career. This did not sneak up on the Cowboys, but they are clearly in no rush to get this deal done. That's the norm for the Cowboys as frustrating as it may be. The same plot played out last season with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb with Prescott's extension not coming until hours before kickoff. Parsons' loyalty to the Cowboys is unquestioned. Amid these contract disputes with the team he has remained around the team and participated minimally at mandatory minicamp this week. But until the ink dries on that piece of paper – gearing a salary we bet is now going to be in excess of $40 million per year – fans will continue to speculate about what his future looks like. That's why the latest proposal from Anne Erickson at Heavy has him headed to an NFC rival in the Detroit Lions. Advertisement The Cowboys would return a second- and fourth-round draft pick in this theoretical deal. A pairing of Micah Parsons and budding star Aidan Hutchinson would test the limits of the best offensive lines in the league. But that's more likely to happen at the Pro Bowl Games or on a Madden video game. We can argue that there is not a price that can be put on a player who provides production, leadership and wants to stay put. No amount of wish casting will change that reality. But as insider Mike Fisher notes: 'A 2 and a 4? This is peak silliness.' Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has work to do on his end, specifically in amending the relationship with Parsons' agent. But the player and the owner maintain a strong relationship, so those personal conversations are ongoing. Advertisement This waiting game will likely cost the Cowboys once again, but there's hardly any reason to believe No. 11 will not be suiting up for Dallas through the coming years. Goals galore as Club World Cup big guns survive scares

River Plate have ended a thrilling day at the Club World Cup in the United States with a surprising stalemate against Monterrey. Despite the draw in California, the Argentine giants lead Group E on goal difference from Inter Milan, who are also on four points from two matches ahead of their clash on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Esteban Andrada made vital second-half saves from Franco Mastantuono and Miguel Borja to secure a point for Mexican side Monterrey. Earlier on Saturday, Valentin Carboni scored in the second minute of second-half added time to complete Inter's 2-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds in Seattle. Carboni's strike rescued all three points 14 minutes after Lautaro Martinez's brilliant 78th-minute equaliser from a corner kick. Inter led their Japanese foes 26-5 in total shots, though their first on target didn't come until Martinez levelled the affair with his 24th goal in all competitions this season. Against the run of play, Ryoma Watanabe had put Red Diamonds, who are now eliminated, in front on 11 minutes. In Cincinnati, Borussia Dortmund held off a spirited comeback from Mamelodi Sundowns to secure a 4-3 victory. Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy and Jobe Bellingham scored for the German Bundesliga club who also profited from an own goal. Lucas Ribeiro had given the South African champions the lead while Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba scored in the second half as they looked to rally from 4-1 down, but fell just short. 🍿 @BVB won a thriller in Cincinnati!#FIFACWC — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) June 21, 2025 Fluminense came from behind at halftime to beat Ulsan HD 4-2 in New Jersey to join Dortmund atop of Group F on four points and eliminate the South Koreans. Juan Freytes put the Brazilians in front in the 83rd minute and Keno's second-half added-time header sealed the three points. Freytes' winner - his first goal for Fluminense - came 17 minutes after teammate Nonato levelled during a contest where the lead twice changed hands. John Arias also scored from an early free kick before Jinhyun Lee and Um Won-Sang netted for Ulsan.

'Run, Dak, Run!' Inside The Cowboys' Harsh Truth As a Duel-Threat Quarterback

'Run, Dak, Run!' Inside The Cowboys' Harsh Truth As a Duel-Threat Quarterback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - It would be a gigantic weapon. It also, to us, seems unrealistic. Last season, just as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott attempted to return to being the dual-threat he once was, his hamstring gave out in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, ending his season. Advertisement Now he's about to turn 32. He's got the ankle surgery and the calf issue and the torn-off-the-bone hamstring surgery and yet ... ESPN's Mike Clay is projecting that Prescott finishes the 2025 season with 49 attempts for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Cool. But ... the 49 attempts would be Prescott's second-highest since 2019. And at 4.4 yards per carry, that would mark his best number since 2021. Guys ... that stuff was, like, a half-decade ago. If he can get four yards a clip? That would be such a threat additive. But ... Kurt Daniels of sees it our way. "I think it's safe to say that Prescott's days as a true dual-threat quarterback are behind him,'' Daniels writes in a harsh truth. "We learned a tough lesson last year when those of us who wanted him to run more promptly saw him rip his hamstring tendon from the bone after a scramble. ...'' Advertisement This doesn't mean Prescott can't move or that Prescott can't win. But anybody pining for his rookie year performance of 2016, when he was truly "duel-threat''? We're here to tell Cowboys Nation that Dak had better be really, really good at being a single-threat, if you catch our drift.
