Man arrested after online threats to ‘kill children and babies' sparks school alert
The suspect, who is aged in his 40s, is now in custody, gardaí have confirmed.
A man is in garda custody after a series of disturbing threats to 'kill children and babies' were posted online, sparking a school alert.
A 'highly disturbing' video was posted in recent days, featuring chilling threats about alleged plans to target young children.
After his video was widely shared online, a group of local people 'descended' upon the man, who is in his 40s and was living in an encampment off the M4 motorway. This group 'broke up his encampment', sources say.
The suspect, who is aged in his 40s, was not injured during this fracas. But the man fled the area before re-emerging in Tallaght.
It is believed he posted another video, shared on TikTok, from Tallaght Square.

The man apparently walked from Tallaght to Abbeyleix in Laois.
At this stage, a local primary school had put out an alert, given the grave nature of the threats being issued against children.
A Precaution Notice sent out to the school community by Principal of Scoil Mhuire Margaret Slevin at 9.46am on Wednesday stated: 'Dear Parent/Guardian, We are aware of rumours circulating in Abbeyleix this morning.
"Please be reassured that we are doing everything in our power to keep the children and staff safe. Everyone will remain indoors today or until we hear otherwise. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter.'
It is understood that the man now in custody was never in the vicinity of the school.
Gardai also confirmed a major investigation into the incident, as well as the suspect's arrest.
A statement said: 'Gardaí investigating alleged threats shared online have arrested one male in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois this morning, Wednesday 28th May 2025.
'The arrested male is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
'There is no ongoing threat to public safety at this time. As a person is now in custody there is no further comment at this time.'

Louth delivery driver was on bail when cocaine found in his underwear
Nahid Duffy, Dowdalls Crescent, Newry Road, Dundalk, was before the circuit court for sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of 26.9g of cocaine for sale or supply. Further charges of possession of cocaine and possession of 'magic mushrooms' are being taken into consideration. The defendant, who has one previous conviction for possession of drugs, was a front seat passenger in a car followed and stopped by Gardaí. It was stated that he got involved in drug dealing to feed his own cocaine habit. Gda Daniel O'Connor testified that at 12.25am on April 5, 2021, he was observer in an unmarked car when he spotted a Ford Focus driving erratically after it exited Mourne View on the Dublin Road. This car was stopped at McSwiney Street. It contained the driver, Mr Duffy and a third person in the back. Gda O'Connor said he spoke to the defendant who appeared nervous. The car and its occupants were searched. Mr Duffy took responsibility for a bag of 'magic mushrooms' and for €825 cash which was in the centre console. Following his arrest and during a search at the garda station, cocaine was found down the accused's trousers in his underwear. The drugs were valued €1,883, and the 'magic mushrooms' €110. ADVERTISEMENT He told investigators that he used the mushrooms for anxiety. He also admitted using cannabis and CBD. He said the cash was his and admitted having the drugs for sale to fund a cocaine addiction. There was one previous conviction for Section 3 possession of drugs for which a €150 fine was imposed in the district court. For this case the DPP had directed summary disposal on a guilty plea only and the district court accepted jurisdiction. Mr Duffy initially pleaded 'not guilty'. A booklet of mitigation was handed into court on behalf of the defendant. Barrister Stephen Faulkner, instructed by solicitor Ciarán Mulholland, said that Nahid Duffy was of Bangladeshi/Irish descent and had suffered racist bullying in school. Carlow shooting witness says she saw gunman with another male
Evan Fitzgerald , the gunman who fired shots into the air in a Carlow shopping centre before taking his own life, interacted with another young man before opening fire, according to a witness statement taken by gardaí . The witness also described how, before the shooting, she pleaded with Mr Fitzgerald not to do anything after he told her 'this is going to be really loud'. Mr Fitzgerald (22), a steelyard worker from Portrushen, Kiltegan, Co Wicklow, fired a number of shots into the air in the busy Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow Town at about 6.15pm on Sunday, June 1st, before taking his own life. At the time he was facing charges relating to the possession of a military rifle and handgun which he had allegedly attempted to buy on the dark web. READ MORE It has since emerged undercover gardaí sold him the guns, which they had decommissioned, after being tipped off that Mr Fitzgerald was attempting to source weapons on the internet. The exact reason behind Mr Fitzgerald's decision to open fire in the shopping centre remains unclear. All the shots were fired into the air and gardaí have said they do not believe he intended to harm anyone. Garda sources say CCTV shows Mr Fitzgerald entering the shopping centre alone and that there is nothing to indicate he was acting with others. One woman, who asked not to be identified due to security concerns, said she was upstairs in the shopping centre nursing her newborn baby when she spotted Mr Fitzgerald and another young man. She said the pair were standing near some amusement machines and that one of the men was going through a bag. 'They were smiling at each other, and he was showing something to the other guy. The other guy had his phone out and holding it in a way that kind of looked like he was filming,' the woman told The Irish Times. 'They were definitely together. There was no doubt about that.' She said the 'taller, thinner' young man then departed the scene, leaving Mr Fitzgerald behind. The woman, who worked as a teacher, said she suspected Mr Fitzgerald was 'getting up to mischief'. Mr Fitzgerald then passed the woman as she was holding her newborn. 'He looked at me and said, 'just so you know, this is going to be really loud',' she said. The woman said she responded 'how about don't, then'. She repeated this a number of times but the man ignored her. She said he had an object in his hand which she thought may have been a paintball gun. Mr Fitzgerald did not seem agitated and upset at this point, she said. Mr Fitzgerald then left the area and went down the stairs. He passed the woman's partner who was coming up to join her. The man had noticed that Mr Fitzgerald was holding a shotgun and told his partner they needed to hide. The couple and their baby hid in a conference room where they heard six or seven shots. Both were left badly shaken by the incident. Gardaí later took statements from both witnesses. The woman, whose mother was downstairs by the Tesco store, said she thought people in the shopping centre were being shot. It took a long time for her to verify her mother was safe, she said. The woman's mother said she took cover behind some trolleys while the shots went off. 'I was laying there on my belly, hoping he wouldn't notice me,' she said. 'I laid there for the longest time, until I started hearing the gates of the Tesco coming down. 'So I stood up, and then a lovely police officer came over, and he just ushered me out the door and said go home. 'I had no idea where my family were. The first shot, for all I knew, killed my grandson.'
