Make your sausages juicier and tastier by doing this 1 easy task before cooking

Daily Record3 days ago

Taking 10 minutes to cook your meat properly will improve the taste.
Sausages are one of the highlights of the traditional fry-up, and they're just as tasty when they're stuffed into a sandwich or topped on mash potato. Whatever way they're enjoyed, the most important thing is making sure they are cooked properly. It can be disappointing when you're looking forward to tucking into your hearty breakfast, only to discover that your sausages have dried out or are too chewy.
This can happen when sausages are cooked on a high heat because this causes the skin of the sausage to cook too quickly. This can lead to sausages burning and splitting, which can have a massive effect on the taste. Cooking expert Jules Clancy, founder of The Stone Soup, said if you want perfectly crispy and full of flavour sausages, then spend 10 minutes to poach them beforehand.

Jules said: 'I was convinced last year by my Irishman that the best way to cook sausages if you're serving them whole is to gently poach them to cook them through before browning them in a pan or on the BBQ. Well worth the effort for tender, juicy bangers and mash.'
Poaching is the simple cooking technique of letting sausages simmer in a little water before cooking them properly. It ensures the inside of the sausages cooks all the way through and helps them retain moisture as they heat up, reports the Express.
This results in sausages that are much juicier and even more flavourful so your banger and mash or tasty fry up if more enjoyable to eat.

How to poach sausages to make them tastier
Poaching sausages is very simple and should only take a few minutes. Place the sausages in a pot and add just enough cold water to cover them.

If you prefer, some people like to add stock, seasoning, onions or garlic to the pot while poaching sausages to help make them even more flavourful. However, this is entirely optional.
Place on a medium heat and allow the sausages to cook for a few minutes until the water begins to simmer, then turn off the heat. Do not let the water boil as it can cause the sausages skin to split.
Let the sausages sit and soak up the steam until the water is room temperature, which should take a few minutes.

Then, cook the sausages like you normally by putting them in the oven or heating up a frying pan. This helps give them colour and make them crispy.
Your sausages should be plump, juicy and incredibly tasty if you take 10 minutes maximum to try out this easy cooking method.
A group of expert butchers recently revealed their top tip for prepping sausages right.
It's a step that many might neglect, yet it's crucial for achieving the best results. The experts at online butchers Traymoor insist on letting the sausages reach room temperature before they're cooked on the pan or grill.
This method isn't exclusive to sausages - it's also beneficial for other meats like steak. Their guidance is straightforward: "Removing them from the fridge around 20 minutes before cooking helps them cook more evenly. In addition, there is less chance of the skins breaking.

I can be myself in the UK - but now I can't go home

'I can now tell you that you are our first ever Miss Trans Global Uganda finalist – congratulations!' As soon as I heard this news in 2022 via Zoom, I screamed with delight. I had made it to the top seven of the global pageant and I couldn't be more proud. 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!' I shouted with joy and thanks. As a child, I loved everything about beauty and fashion, but I could never fully express this because I'm a transgender woman from Uganda. Although being trans is not explicitly banned in the country, people like me are essentially in legal limbo and discrimination is widespread. As a result, I felt like my dreams to explore creative arts were suffocated and I was forced to assimilate. I went to a Catholic school, which had a strict dress code. On top of that, I suffered through non-inclusive sex education, anti-LGBTQ+ religious sermons in church, and a derogatory media landscape. I decided I needed to prioritise a roof over my head before anything else. That meant that I sacrificed expressing or exploring my gender identity publicly. In order to find a sense of LGBTQ+ community, I created a fake profile on social media and joined an anonymous private group of similar people who were brave enough to express themselves online. Gradually, we started meeting each other secretly, despite living in the closet. With thousands of members from all over the world, our vibrant LGBTQ+ WhatsApp channel is a hub for all the latest news and important issues that face the LGBTQ+ community. Simply click on this link, select 'Join Chat' and you're in! Don't forget to turn on notifications! I couldn't really cross-dress in public with my new friends because I was scared of being outed, but I also didn't fit into the straight world either. So I felt stuck and unsafe, which impacted my emotional wellbeing. I devoted my time and energy into graduating. After that, I applied for a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, which is a fully-funded scholarship from the British Government. Two months later, I was delighted to find out that my application was successful, so I moved to the UK in 2021 to study a masters at the University of Bath. Life after I came to the UK was liberating. Compared to Uganda, British cities embrace diversity from all walks of life. I watched TV shows that included trans people like Pose on BBC iPlayer. I also revamped my skincare routine and changed my wardrobe from a masculine to feminine aesthetic. I had the gender marker on legal documents changed and explored the nightlife of LGBTQ+ bars across the UK with a community of people just like me. Amanda was part of Hannah and Jake Graf's 'Trans is Human' campaign, which launched around Trans Day of Visibility (March 31) this year. For more information, visit their Instagram page here. The campaign is supported by Pride Wide, a charity featuring exclusive, investigative, fact-checked LGBTQ+ storytelling. Then in June 2022, I attended my first Pride parade in London and I was completely blown away by everyone proudly celebrating their identities. I was also pleasantly surprised by the support from the state in having police protection, endorsement from the mayor, and various companies marching in comradeship. None of these things would be possible in my home country. It was around this time that I stumbled across a Facebook post about a pageant called Miss Trans Global and was immediately interested in applying. Now that I was in the UK, I finally felt safe enough to be visible and express my true self. I had to send an audition tape talking about myself and why I wanted to compete in the pageant. 'I want to challenge stereotypes about femininity,' I said in the video, 'and I want to represent my country, Uganda.' I also had an interview with a panel of judges. In the lead up to the event, I made sure to learn how to walk confidently, practice public speaking, apply makeup, and show polished etiquette. Refugee Week is the world's largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking safety. Each year, IMIX – a charity that helps change the way people think and talk about migration – supports Refugee Week Ambassadors. These are people, like Amanda, who came to the UK to rebuild their lives and who now play an important part in our communities. IMIX is proud to work with Metro as a trusted partner in highlighting these voices and shining a light on the many ways refugees help make the UK a better place for everyone. You can read Agnès' story below I followed every rule as an asylum seeker – I was still detained The pageant was intense from the very start – even though it all took place online due to Covid-19 restrictions. For the evening ball gown category, I walked in an elegant rose pink lace long prom dress as the crowds cheered via live streaming platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Throughout it all, I was nervous but also excited, since I was the first to represent Uganda. In the end, I won 'Third Princess Global' and 'Inspirational Queen of the Year', which I was thrilled with. The whole event was so special to me because it was an opportunity to celebrate our unique traits of beauty and gender expression in a world that forces us to live in fear or shame about our bodies. Personally, participating in a beauty pageant helped me find my feminine charm and confidence – something I've taken with me ever since. This newfound confidence helped me be proactive at university and I got elected as the campaign officer for the LGBTQ+ students club in 2022. I also started my medical transition that year, which is exciting, although comes with its own challenges. But being so open about my identity has had its downsides, leading me to getting outed in my home country. My family and friends back at home found out I was transgender through social media, and were initially furious. Some cut ties. Later, a few gradually became more accepting and looked to reconcile. But most people I knew still remain negative about my identity. As a result, it's no longer safe for me to return to Uganda. So I had to apply for asylum and was granted the right to remain in the UK in 2023. Besides that, life for me has been joyful as I have grown more in my career – working in the charity sector where I have co-founded a charity organisation called Minority Inclusion Foundation (which supports LGBTQ+ refugees) and even modelled in magazines, too. More Trending I am also an ambassador for Refugee Week UK 2025, which is the largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees worldwide. From competing as Miss Trans Global Uganda, I learnt to conquer my fears about myself. The pageant changed my life by pushing me out of my comfort zone to a place of growth. It helped me change my geographical location, physical appearance, career and community, but most importantly the relationship I had with myself. Irish tradie is desperate to get his hands on 'best ever' $89 Kmart item years after moving back home from Australia

An Irish tradie who used to lived in Perth is seeking to replace a beloved work item that he previously purchased in a Kmart Australia store - but so far to no avail. The man recently took to Reddit to explain that he was on the hunt for a 'similar' pair of work boots to the ones he'd bought years ago in a Kmart store Down Under. He shared the details of his search in an 'Ask An Aussie' subreddit post titled: 'Irishman misses Kmart work boots'. 'Lads I know this is weird but I got a pair of Kmart work boots a couple years ago in Perth,' he wrote. 'They brought me all around your beautiful country and helped me work to afford the copious pints of Swan. 'I'm home in Ireland now and I'm sad to say it but the Jackeroos are approaching their last days.' The man proceeded to share a picture of his now highly worn-out pair of Kmart Zip Sided Safety Boots, which currently retail in store for $89. He added that he'd since struggled to find a worthy replacement in his home country. 'I've been searching for a boot similar, but to no success,' he lamented. The tradie went on to detail the characteristics that he missed about his former Kmart boots, such as 'the soft leather, the side zip that refuses to break, the immediate comfort out of the box, the wide soles for my flat Shrek feet'. 'A true piece of art,' he added. The original poster admitted that he'd dabbled with other boot brands, using a humorous dating metaphor to describe the result thus far. 'I've gone through other boots like rebounds after a failed relationship. [H]oping to find what I'm missing. But they're just not the same,' he wrote. The Reddit post ended with a call-out for help to Aussies, begging to know if a 'similar' boot existed, 'not just in appearance but in spirit and soul'. A number of Aussie tradies jumped into the comments to offer some alternatives. The top three brand of work boots recommended in the comments were Blundstone, Mongrel Boots and Steel Blue. But as was noted in the responses, these bigger name brands tend to be priced at around '$250 for a pair'. By comparison, the Kmart Zip Sided Safety boots are less than half the price. Because the original poster was so enamoured with their old Kmart work boots, some commenters helpfully suggested ways to replace them like-for-like. For instance, one reply recommended ordering a new pair of the same boots online from the Kmart website and then arranging to 'get them delivered to a mate in Australia who can forward them to you'. 'Maybe pricey though for postage,' they conceded. It appears the Irish tradie isn't the only one impressed with Kmart's Zip Sided Safety Boots, which have an impressive 4.7 out of 5 star review score on the mass retailer's website. Many of the five-star reviews made mention of how well-priced the boots are for the quality – particularly when compared to other bigger brands. 'Great shoes for work and excellent price, why pay three times more when the quality is the same if not better,' read one review. 'Great quality for the price… plus they have a steel cap. It was a choice between these or a $200 pair. Can't complain,' added another. The work boots are deemed to be 'suitable for electrical, carpentry, labouring and warehouse industries', and currently come in two colours: black and wheat. Importantly, the online product description confirms that the shoes are 'AS 2210.3:2019 SB FO SRA certified'. Some of the features of the shoe include a slip-on design, steel round toe, side zip, high cut and have a pull back tab. From a practical standpoint, the product description touts that the boots have a 'fuel & oil resistant sole', a 'TPU toe bump' and are 'slip resistant'. The sturdy shoe is made from a mixture of full grained nubuck leather, polyurethane (PU) on the mid sole and outsole and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) cutting die on the footbed. Many of the online reviews commended the comfortability of the boots, with one simply declaring that they were the 'best work boots ever! One shopper explained that they'd worn the Kmart buy for 'long periods' without any trouble, noting that was 'unusual for out of the box boots'. 'Excellent boot for the money. Zip side is great,' added another.

Loganair plane forced to make emergency landing after engine burst into flames

An investigation into the fire has since been carried out. A Loganair flight was forced to divert to Aberdeen Airport after one of its engines caught fire, a probe has determined. The terrifying incident on July 23, 2024 on the service from Glasgow to Sumburgh Airport in Shetland had 30 passengers on board. ‌ A mayday alert was declared due to a malfunction with the aircraft, with the captain left with no option but to make an emergency landing in the Granite City. ‌ Crews were able to shut down the engine and successfully put out the fire, Aberdeen Live reports. An investigation examining the incident, launched by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), stated that the flight left Glasgow at 11.30am, but just 30 minutes into the journey, the pilot described hearing a "big thump" or "muffled bang". The plane then "immediately yawned to the left" before the autopilot corrected its route. It was at this point that the mayday call was issued and the diversion was initiated, with it landing safely at Aberdeen a short time later. The report stated: "Whilst in the cruise, the aircraft suffered a contained failure of the No 1 engine and a subsequent fire inside its cowlings due to a leak from the fuel return line which had become sufficiently loose following the engine failure to result in fuel leakage. "Although this is the only known instance of this fuel line becoming loose, the aircraft manufacturer has commenced a safety review to identify any possible safety actions which would further reduce the likelihood of leakage from the fuel return line." Loganair confirmed in response that the review was underway, and is set to be finished by the end of 2025. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The nature of the incident is still unknown.
