Road closures ahead for station to town link

Motorists have been warned about overnight closures of a main route through a town centre.
Resurfacing work will take place between 19:00 and 06:00 BST between 16 June to 4 July on Elizabeth Street in Corby, Northamptonshire, North Northamptonshire Council said.
It is part of a project designed to provide a safe and attractive route between the town centre and the railway station.
Bus stops along Elizabeth Road will be temporarily suspended and a taxi rank will stop operating during the closures.
The previous Conservative government provided the money for the new link which will cover Elizabeth Street, Oakley Road and Station Road.
It was part of a £19.9m package of funding.
An underpass on Oakley Road will be removed as part of the project.
North Northamptonshire Council said it hoped the new route would mean "more people will be encouraged to travel on foot and cycle between the town centre and station, which not only improves people's health and well-being levels but has a positive impact on the environment".
A full diversion will be in place during the closures, and residents will also be able to use George Street between 18:00 and 08:00 BST.
Access for residents and businesses "will be maintained wherever possible" although "vehicle access may be restricted during the overnight closures", the council said.

Te Ara Tupua is a shared walking and cycling path that will provide a vital connection between Wellington and Petone, while strengthening the resilience of a nationally significant transport corridor. In an earthquake prone city and along a windswept coastline, the project is designed to withstand the environmental, social, and economic challenges inherent to the region. It also enhances the resilience of the adjacent Hutt Valley rail line and State Highway 2, two critical components of the national transport network. At the heart of Te Ara Tupua is a unique partnership model that has been in place since the project's inception. Waka Kotahi, New Zealand Transport Agency, has worked in close collaboration with iwi Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika and Ngāti Toa Rangatira, to develop a shared approach that reflects the intergenerational view of Māori. This relationship is formalised through the Project Steering Group, where iwi representatives are involved in all aspects of the project, including procurement, design, construction, monitoring and compliance. Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One, the middle section of Te Ara Tupua, includes a 4.5-kilometre shared path constructed along reclaimed coastline. The design incorporates seawalls, revetments, culvert extensions, and ūranga – gathering and viewing points that offer space for rest, reflection, and reconnection with the habour environment. The project is now approximately 60 percent complete and is scheduled for completion in 2026. From the outset, the project team developed a Project Sustainability Policy to embed environmental, social, and cultural sustainability into every stage of the project's lifecycle. Te Ara Tupua is using the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) rating scheme to measure its performance across 25 categories, exceeding standard practice in several key areas. The completed path is projected to increase walking and cycling by approximately 1,700 journeys per day. The shift toward active transport modes will continue to contribute to emission reduction, support public health outcomes, and ease pressure on existing transport networks. $4.3 million resurfacing project to begin on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills

If you're fed up with the construction on Orchard Lake Road, it's not expected to end anytime soon. Starting Monday, June 23, a major resurfacing project breaks ground. "We've been doing the entire Orchard Lake corridor for a number of years now, trying to update each segment," said Craig Bryson, Oakland County Road Commission senior communications manager. CBS Detroit A major $4.3 million resurfacing project kicks off on Monday from Interstate 696 to 13 Mile Road. "It includes milling off the existing road surface paving with new asphalt, improvements to curbs and gutters where needed. One of the big things we're doing to improve traffic flow in the area is we're adding a dual left turn to westbound 12 Mile onto southbound Orchard Lake. That should help alleviate some of the congestion at that intersection," Bryson said. Bryson says the road will remain open with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction. Drivers will also have access to all businesses along the corridor. CBS Detroit "There is no detour route because we're not closing the road," said Bryson. The project is expected to be complete by fall. Although delays are expected, Bryson says crews appreciate everyone's patience as this work gets done. "Ultimately, this will make a much better, smoother road, better functioning road, so we just gotta get through short-term pain for long-term gain," Bryson said. Bryson says throughout this project, there will be two weekends when the intersection of 12 Mile at Orchard Lake roads will close so crews can add the additional turn lane. The sculpture includes the full car body, along with Ferrari's official prancing horse badges, front and rear lamp lenses, and hood straps. Just 19 examples will be produced, matching the number of so-called 'Pontoon Fender' versions of the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa race car of the late-1950s. Made of hand-polished aluminum, the sculpture features genuine Ferrari badges, plus light lenses and ... More hood straps. Hedley Studios suggests how the car body could be mounted on the wall of a garage, lounge or, my personal favorite, alongside the glassware of your home bar. Wherever you decide, you'll need plenty of space, since the aluminum sculpture measures 122 inches long, 43 inches wide and about 28 inches tall. The company says each body takes over 300 hours to create, with the metalwork shaped using traditional panel beating techniques. After that, the sculpture undergoes a two-week hand machining process to create the polished finish. I drove the latter in track-honed Pacco Gara specification back in 2023.
