Claudia Winkleman 'eternally grateful' after undergoing surgery

Claudia Winkleman has undergone eye surgery, she has revealed. The Traitors host, 53, has taken to social media to thank her eye surgeon for operating on her today. 'This amazing human makes me see. He's operated on my eyes before and he did it again today,' she said on Instagram, alongside a picture of her next to Dr Julian Stevens. 'No eyeliner for weeks and I sleep in googles (no words) but I'm eternally grateful,' she added. 'Do NOT zoom in on my left eye – it's wonky. Thank you Julian. I paid for the treatment, this isn't an ad. I just love him. It's very possible I'm still a bit sedated. Night night.' The Strictly presenter's comments section was flooded with support from well-wishers, as follower Suzanne Robinson said: 'Get well soon.' 'Love you !! Hope you feel better. Amazing man,' said ava_xoox while gurcharan_davany added: 'Speedy recovery eyeliner queen.' While it's not clear why Claudia underwent the surgery this time, she's previously been open about suffering with severe short-sightedness, which means she can't see objects far away. Speaking on the How To Fail podcast in 2023 about how she doesn't take too much notice of her appearance, Claudia explained: 'I was born, I think with minus 15 [eyes], so I've never really been able to see my face. It's all guesswork.' Claudia – who is known for her iconic long fringe – went on to say she's had operations because she was 'banging into walls' and she now wears lenses and glasses. However, despite laser eye surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Claudia found her vision was still blurry. Finding lightness in her eye issues – and acknowledging her trademark black eyeliner – Claudia said: 'Often when the kids have been playing with my phone with the camera switched round and I have to call somebody or I'm making a call, I'm like 'I don't understand why Ozzy Osbourne..I didn't even invite him round', and then I'm like, 'Ah, it's me.' More Trending Earlier this year, Claudia also touched on her condition on Gabby Logan's The Mid Point podcast. 'I've had so many operations on my eyes. I had a lens replacement in my left eye because my astigmatism was so bad I was minus 16, but that was 14 years ago,' she said. Claudia explained how she then became long-sighted: 'Then I had a little fiddle with but because I was so short sighted by then fixing it I'm now long sighted so I can't really read any more. 'I can with glasses, I've got plus 2.5 but I can't read The Bee Sting with those glasses and that light.' Got a story? Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman has shared a candid snap from her hospital bed after undergoing eye surgery - and warned fans not to zoom in on her eye TV presenter Claudia Winkleman has revealed she has undergone eye surgery - and she can't don her trademark heavy eyeliner for weeks as she recovers. The Strictly Come Dancing co-host was flooded with support as she shared a candid update with her fans on Friday night. Posing next to a medical professional, Claudia, 53, looked unrecognisable without her usual heavy fake tan and smokey eye make-up as she donned a hospital gown for the picture. ‌ Captioning the image, The Traitors host told her Instagram followers: "This amazing human makes me see. He's operated on my eyes before and he did it again today. No eyeliner for weeks and I sleep in goggles (no words) but I'm eternally grateful. ‌ "Do NOT zoom in on my left eye - it's wonky. Thank you Julian. I paid for the treatment, this isn't an ad. I just love him. It's very possible I'm still a bit sedated. Night, night." Gogglebox star Izzi Warner was one of the first comment on Claudia's post, writing: "We still have the costume and Bobby is willing to wear the eye liner for you if you need a stand in Claudia! Happy healing." "You look beautiful Claudia," Drag Race UK star Baga Chipz told the TV star, with a fan adding: "He did my eye surgery about 8 years ago! Played rock music as he did it. He told me it would be life changing and he was right. Amazing man!" Claudia's health update comes just days on from the popular star being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King's Birthday Honours. The mum-of-three presenter was honoured on last week alongside her Strictly Come Dancing co-host, Tess Daly, for services to broadcasting. Claudia said: "I am incredibly grateful to receive this honour. It's a real privilege to work with extraordinarily talented people and I have only got this because of them. ‌ "So this is for the BBC, the traitors and the faithful, for pianos and for the cha cha. I will buy a hat and am taking my mum. I am ridiculously lucky and will celebrate with Tess by doing a paso doble." Born and raised in London, she studied history of art at Cambridge University and after graduating began her career as a TV and radio presenter, fronting a range of BBC TV shows including Comic Relief and The Great British Sewing Bee. She also presented on BBC Radio 2 until 2024, hosting different programmes on the station including the comedy quiz series Hot Gossip, the Claudia Winkleman Arts Show and Claudia On Sunday. ‌ In 2004, she joined BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing, presenting its weekday companion show It Takes Two until she passed it to broadcaster Zoe Ball, with her taking on the Sunday night results show alongside Tess Daly. The presenter joined Tess for the main show every Saturday from 2014, after Sir Bruce Forsyth stepped down. The Bafta-winning presenter is also behind the hit BBC game show The Traitors and won best entertainment performance at the 2023 awards. She will be fronting its charity spin-off series, The Celebrity Traitors, in which 19 famous faces will enter the castle in the Highlands, including comedian Alan Carr, actor and broadcaster Sir Stephen Fry and retired diver Tom Daley.

Wynne Evans slams BBC again over ‘double standards' after Naga Munchetty is hauled in over sex jibe

The axed radio star commented on The Sun revealing BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was hauled in over a sex jibe at Radio 5 Live. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 2 Naga Munchetty is the first female presenter to be caught up in the series of scandals which have gripped the Beeb Credit: BBC 2 Wynne Evans hit out at the BBC over the handling of his Strictly scandals Credit: Dan Charity Wynne shared today's front page of the newspaper detailing the programme's toxicity row, amid claims Naga was reprimanded by bosses over two incidents in three years — including allegations she bullied a junior staffer. Posting The Sun front page in a now-deleted post, Wynne said: "I really wish Naga well and I hope she doesn't get hounded. "But come on @bbc @bbccymruwales what double standards. "Tim Davie [Director-general of the BBC] promised to protect people on Strictly from being hounded by the press, but he won't even meet with me." Wynne recently sat down with The Sun's Clemmie Moodie to reveal his side of the story after losing his job following three allegations levelled against him. The first, dubbed 'gropegate', came when he moved his hand over pro partner Katya Jones' waist in the Clauditorium. The other was when The Sun on Sunday revealed he had sent a sex toy to Jamie, which the EastEnders star was caught on camera laughing about. The third was from a video of him saying 'spit-roast' at a Strictly photocall which, it was claimed, was in relation to married pro Janette Manrara. He accused the BBC of abandoning him in the wake of a series of controversies that erupted during and after his time on Strictly Come Dancing. The corporation said he was offered a dedicated contact at the BBC and was offered "continued" mental health support since his contract concluded. BBC star Naga Munchetty hauled in by bosses over allegations she BULLIED a junior staffer and 'made an off-air sex jibe' Director General Tim Davie issued an unprecedented apology, and vowed to clean the show up, after a formal complaint from actress Amanda Abbington into Giovanni Pernice's behaviour. A raft of ex-contestants then came forward with their own horror stories. Another dancer, Graziano Di Prima was then fired after a video emerged of him kicking his partner Zara McDermott. Naga is the first female presenter to be caught up in the series of scandals which have gripped the Beeb. She was reprimanded by a senior producer over the sex jibe, but no formal action was taken. As the BBC is now facing questions of double standards, an insider said: 'If a male presenter made a sexual comment like that or falsely accused someone of theft, he'd be out the door. But with Naga, it gets brushed off.' A BBC spokesperson said: 'While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.'
