Coach Hugo Broos: 'No sign of another Themba Zwane but Sinoxolo Kwayiba looks the part'
Sinoxolo Kwayiba Orlando Pirates-linked Sinoxolo Kwayiba has revealed his desire to play for one of the Premier Soccer League's big three clubs. The Chippa United midfielder is about to make a breakthrough.
Now that the dust has settled on Bafana Bafana's international friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique, national team coach Hugo Broos remains candid in his assessment of his squad's capabilities, particularly regarding the search for a player who can match the unique skill set of Themba Zwane.
The 35-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Zwane is currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, leaving a notable void in the national squad that has yet to be filled.
Speaking on the challenges of finding a successor to Zwane, Broos remarked:
'I must be honest and say that until now, we didn't find the second Themba, that type of player. But maybe we can solve it in another way, and that's something we wanted to see also in those two games."
While singing Zwane's praises, Broos highlighted the potential of rising star Sinoxolo Kwayiba, the Chippa United midfielder.
The 25-year-old Kwayiba came off the bench against Tanzania and started in the subsequent match against Mozambique, where he left a mark by scoring and earning the 'Player of the Match' accolade in the team's impressive 2-0 win.

Orlando Pirates transfers: FOUR released, EIGHT arriving?
Orlando Pirates are moving swiftly to sharpen some rough edges on their playing squad. Here's how things stand before 2025-2026. Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Innocent Maela and Miguel Timm have all been released. Meanwhile, several new players are expected to arrive. The ever-reputable @UnplayableZA on X believes Pirates will unveil as many as eight new signings soon. Sihle Nduli, Kabelo Kgositsile, Tshepo Mashilone, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Tshepang Moremi are all expected to be Buccaneers soon. There are also whispers that the club is keen to do deals for Neo Rapoo and Devin Titus. Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sesane, Mbokazi, Mashiloane; Makhaula, Mbatha; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa. Left-back is an interesting situation with Innocent Maela and Paseka Mako both already gone. Deon Hotto has been the incumbent in that role, although it's still not his favourite position. Tshepho Mashiloane can cover both full-back positions, so his imminent arrival will be a boost. Remember, Thabiso Monyane also ended his 13-year stay with the club. 'He won't come back': Ribeiro's WC form worry Sundowns fans
Mamelodi Sundowns fans worry they might lose their star player, Lucas Ribeiro next season. The 26-year-old forward has been instrumental in Downs' FIFA Club World Cup campaign so far. The Brazilians have won one match, lost another in the group stages and will need a win to go through into the next round. Having joined Sundowns in 2023, Ribeiro was unknown, having had unsuccessful stints in France and Belgium. In the two seasons he has played for Masandawana, the Brazilian attacker has scored 30 goals in 55 matches, winning two league titles. This weekend, he scored a brilliant solo goal against Borussia Dortmund during his team's 4-3 defeat. Football fans praised the forward for his performance throughout the match. The Brazilian will have the biggest game of his life when he faces his home team, Fluminense, on Wednesday. Some fans are worried that Ribeiro might decide to join a European team during the pre-season and dump Sundowns. @MrFootyBets_ wrote: 'That's a raw talent. Ribeiro is going to Europe after this tourney.' @KhosiNationFTV wrote: 'Ribeiro's chances of leaving Sundowns go up by each minute he plays this club World Cup.' 'Can some team in Europe buy that Ribeiro? He has been terrorising former big teams in South Africa like Kaizer Chiefs. Thanks in advance for your indulgence…' tweeted @Skipper_0ne. 'We are losing Ribeiro guy another performance like today's in the match Vs Fluminense, and he's a gone boy Rayners too might get an Eastern Europe transfer if he scores in the next match,' tweeted @DatDude_Gwetse. 'Mistakes happen': Ronwen gets love, rage from Sundowns fans
Ronwen Williams' performance in the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Borussia Dortmund Fifa Club World Cup has left many South Africans hot and bothered. The Masandawana goalkeeper and captain became a trending topic on the X platform after the South African club lost 3-4 to the German club. Sundowns is the only SA club to compete at the tournament. On Saturday, 21 June, Sundowns faced off against Dortmund in their second group stage match. The final whistle blew at 3-4 in Dortmund's favour. On social media, many South African soccer fans blamed Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams for being behind a series of errors which they believe cost the club a victory. One was his accidental passing to Dortmund striker Felix Nmecha, who used the opportunity to score a goal. On the X, some fans like DJ Mo Flava supported Ronwen, adding that 'mistakes happen'. When Sports channel ESPN Africa posed the question to its followers: 'Keep or drop Ronwen Williams?', many agreed with the DJ. @phungula_BC: 'Definitely keep. All ball-playing keepers are bound to make mistakes from time to time, Ronwen is no exception'. @LondzMkhumbuzi: 'It happens to everyone, top goalkeepers bounce back stronger.' Others weren't so forgiving of the Sundowns captain. @VictorVeeM: 'When we said don't compare him to [Itumeleng] Khune, they told us that we don't know football'. @KingBaloyii: 'He has reached the expiry date'. Sundowns are set for a make-or-break match against Brazil's Fluminense on Tuesday, 24 June, in their final Fifa Club World Cup group stage match. The SA club currently ranks third in Group F, under Dortmund and Fluminense. A victory would secure them a spot in the Round of 16, regardless of Dortmund's result against South Korea's Ulsan, who have yet to score in the tournament. In the case of a draw, SA could only advance if Ulsan beat the German team by a long shot. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .
