Calcutta HC decision on OBC list another blow to Mamata Banerjee's
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): BJP leader Amit Malviya on Tuesday hailed the Calcutta High Court's decision that granted interim stay on the West Bengal Government's OBC list notification and said it is another blow to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'politics of appeasement'.
The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday gave an interim stay on the West Bengal government's recently issued notifications on the OBC list till July 31. A division bench comprising Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Rajasekhar Mantha passed the interim order while hearing petitions challenging the state's classification of communities under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
Malviya, who is in-charge of BJP's National Information & Technology Dept and BJP's co-incharge of West Bengal, attacked the ruling Trinamool Congress government and said it made a desperate attempt to appease a vote bank and 'is a telling commentary on how far the TMC will go to cling to power'.

He alleged that West Bengal Government's recent notifications attempted to reintroduce OBC reservations for several Muslim groups
'Another blow to Mamata Banerjee's politics of appeasement! The Calcutta High Court has stayed the West Bengal Government's recent notifications that attempted to reintroduce OBC reservations for several Muslim groups -- the very same classifications that were earlier struck down by the Court,' he said on a post on X.
'The Court's intervention came in response to writ petitions challenging this blatant overreach. The TMC government, in its brazen hurry, tried to sidestep the High Court's earlier judgment by conducting a dubious 'survey' and bypassing established legal procedure. This desperate attempt to appease a vote bank -- in violation of due process and constitutional norms -- is a telling commentary on how far the TMC will go to cling to power. But the judiciary has once again stood as a bulwark against such unlawful appeasement,' he added.
Malviya also referred to his tweet made earlier this month in which he had accused the TMC government of appeasement politics.
'OBC = Other Backward Classes, but in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee, it has become nothing more than a brazen attempt to appease Muslims, in gross violation of constitutional provisions. Mamata claimed in the Assembly: 'OBC list not based on religion. FACT CHECK: Her own government's data proves otherwise. Before 2010: OBC Classes - 66 Muslim - 11 | Non-Muslim - 55 Muslim Share - 20%. New Additions (2025): Part 1: 51 new classes - 46 Muslim (90%) Part 2: 25 new classes - 21 Muslim (84%). If this isn't religion-based appeasement, what is?' he said in a post on X.
'On June 3, 2025, WB government increased OBC reservation in State Services to 17% (from 7%) -- clearly to benefit these newly included Muslim groups. But here's the catch: On Dec 9, 2024, Hon'ble Supreme Court said -- Reservation can't be based on religion. Earlier, Calcutta HC had struck down this exact list for doing just that. The new list is nothing but a blatant contempt of court and an insult to the principles of social justice,' he added.
Assembly polls will be held in West Bengal next year. (ANI)

Rs 20,000 cr spent so far on PM Modi's rallies in Bihar, claims Tejashwi
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday continued with his "pickpocket" jibe, claiming that a staggering Rs 20,000 crore has been spent on rallies addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bihar so far. The BJP also sharpened its counter-attack, with posters being put up across the state capital bearing the slogan "Mera baap chaara chor, mujhe vote do" (my father stole fodder meant for cattle, vote for me), belittling the leader of the opposition who leads the INDIA bloc in the upcoming assembly polls. The young leader, who had a day ago raised the hackles of the ruling NDA by alleging that exorbitant ticket fares of Vande Bharat made Modi look like a "pocketmaar" (pickpocket), used the expression again in a stinging social media post. He alleged that rallies of Modi in Bihar, since 2014, have cost "Rs 100 crore each" and there have been "200 such public meetings" so far. "So the total amount splurged during the period, which has also seen five elections (three Lok Sabha and two Vidhan Sabha), is Rs 20,000 such meetings have been organised by the government even though the objective has been, clearly, electoral," the former Bihar deputy CM claimed. Notably, Modi was in Siwan district on Friday, which was his fifth visit to the state this year, the second in less than a month, and said to be "51st" since taking over as the prime minister. Yadav, who seemed to be in no mood to give up his tirade, alleged, "What should we call a person who cleverly uses public money on his own pretends to be a man of integrity?... Of course, pocketmaar, not madadgaar (a helper of the people)." The BJP, which takes on the RJD in the assembly elections due in just a few months, retaliated with full force. A day after BJP's former state unit president and Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary had sought to berate Yadav by using the famous line from the blockbuster 'Deewaar' - Mera baap chor Hai (my father is a thief) - in an obvious dig at RJD supremo Lalu Prasad's corruption taint, the party engaged in a "poster war". In the posters, which the party has not officially owned, the colourful slogan is inscribed next to a caricature that shows the father-son duo riding a buffalo, an obvious reference to the fodder scam. The conviction in the fodder scam has left Prasad, a former chief minister and an ex-Union minister, disqualified from contesting the elections. "Congress has only given khatakhat jhoot and loot model," BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla slams Karnataka govt over alleged housing scam
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Saturday, saying that while leading the Karnataka government the party has only given the state a 'khatakhat jhoot and loot model,' alleging that the state government is giving off houses meant to be for poor people through bribes. 'The Congress party has only given a khatakhat jhoot & loot model in Karnataka. First, they gave false guarantees, came to power, and now they are looting with both hands -- be it the MUDA Scam, Valmiki Scam, Liquor Scam, Rice Procurement Scam, or land scams of all kinds. Now there's a housing scam, where houses belonging to the poorest of the poor are being sold off for massive bribes,' Poonawalla told ANI in Delhi. Questioning the state government, the BJP leader asked whether a CBI or independent judicial probe would be carried out as the matter first became public knowledge through a Congress MLA. 'Now the question is -- will any action be taken against the said minister? Will there be a CBI or an independent judicial probe in this matter? Because the allegation hasn't come from the BJP or any activist -- it has been made by a Congress MLA,' he said. Poonawalla was referencing an alleged leaked audio of Congress MLA BR Patil, in which the party leader is purportedly heard accusing officials of taking bribes for allotting houses. Yesterday, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah defended the decision by his government to increase reservation quota by 10-15 per cent in various housing schemes, saying that the decision was in line with the central government's guidelines based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's program for the welfare of minorities. He said the program directs all implementing agencies to earmark '15 per cent of physical and financial targets for minorities wherever possible.' Reacting to criticism that the state government's decision was 'unconstitutional or appeasement,' the Karnataka CM asked why the guidelines issued by the centre were being implemented under government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. 'This guideline is issued by the BJP-led Union Government and has been in force for years. If this was unconstitutional or appeasement, why did the Union Government ask all states to follow it? Why is it being implemented under Central schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?' he asked. Siddaramaiah further said that the state government's decision doesn't grant 'blanket enhancement' of quota across Karnataka but addresses a specific implementation challenge to ensure optimal use of allocated targets.
