'Written threat' at Lockport High School determined to be non-credible
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Lockport City School District says a 'written threat' that caused students and staff to evacuate on Friday afternoon was determined to be non-credible.
No safety concerns were found, the district said.
Lockport High School was evacuated shortly before dismissal Friday following a written threat found in one of the classrooms, according to Lockport City School District Superintendent Mathis Calvin III.
The threat was written on a piece of paper and found on the floor just after 2 p.m. Staff brought the note to administrators. Both staff and students were evacuated to the Kenan Center down the street out of an abundance of caution.
'The Lockport City School District takes and treats issues such as this very seriously,' Calvin said. 'Every incident is fully investigated and we will follow and use our code of conduct when addressing situations such as this manner.'
A full sweep of the school took place, as well as an investigation. Students were sent home and after school activities were canceled for the rest of the day.
Calvin says all Lockport schools will reopen on Monday with an increased police presence on-site.
The written threat comes just two days after a high school student made a similar non credible threat on TikTok, but Calvin says the two incidents do not seem related.

AI image does not show French spy caught in Burkina Faso
'French spy has been captured by captain Ibrahim Traoré, president of Burkina Faso,' reads the caption accompanying a TikTok video posted on May 2, 2025. The post was shared more than 2,400 times. The video includes a static image that appears to show Burkina Faso's president standing next to a man wearing an army uniform, who has blood on his face and is holding his hands in the air. Several TikTok users have claimed that the man in the image is a French spy who was caught posing as a journalist by the name of Julien Moreau (seen here and here). This comes several months after four French nationals who had been held in Burkina Faso over espionage accusations were freed following more than a year of detention (archived here). The group was arrested in the capital, Ouagadougou, on December 1, 2023, and presented by the authorities as intelligence agents working for France's Directorate-General for External Security (archived here). They were released in December 2024, with French authorities thanking Morocco for mediation in the case. However, the claim that this image shows a captured French spy is false. A close look at the picture reveals several flaws commonly found in AI-generated images. For example, the writing on the man's army uniform is gibberish; it's not inscribed in French or any real language. Additionally, Traore's hands appear deformed. A reverse image search of the image led to the earliest occurrence of the claim we could find online: a YouTube video posted on May 1, 2025, seen here. In the caption, after a lengthy tale about a French man posing as a journalist who is then publicly confronted by Traore for being a spy, there is a disclaimer. 'This video is a work of fiction inspired by the life of Ibrahim Traoré,' the caption reads. 'The situations and dialogues depicted are entirely fictional.' Subsequent posts circulating on YouTube and TikTok do not contain any such disclaimers, leading users to believe the image and story is real. AFP Fact Check did not find any credible reports by international media on any French journalist being accused of espionage in Burkina Faso in May 2025. Several AI detection tools also considered the image to be AI-generated. Posts shared on social media with a similar claim that a French woman was caught spying in Burkina Faso were previously debunked by Euronews (archived here).

‘Wonder How Long I Left It In:' Driver Fills Up Gas at 7-Eleven. Then She Catches the Pump Still Charging After She's Finished
A 7-Eleven customer says a gas pump continued charging her after she finished fueling. Breezy (@brinaaababee) captured the meter crawl in a viral TikTok that's accrued over 320,000 views as of this writing. She begins the video by showing the gas pump to demonstrate that she's finished fueling. Behind the pump, the digital display shows the price and amount of gas she pumped. According to the screen, she spent $76.77 for 17.33 gallons of gas. Even though she's purportedly finished fueling, the price and amount keep going up. It continues increasing until she places the pump handle back inside the fuel stand. 'Y'all better start watching these [expletive] gas stations! I wonder how long I left it in my car 'finished,' she says. At the end of the video, her total is $77.09. Meter Creep This issue is known as meter creep. Petroleum industry trade association PEI defines meter creep as 'an event where the dispenser meter display indicates an increase in volume when the pump is on, even though no fuel is being dispensed.' PEI reports that this is usually caused by a leak in liquid-carrying components. It can also indicate that there's a glitch or malfunction with the fuel pump mechanism itself. Other drivers have reported similar issues with meter creep. Trending Now Man Buys $80k Genesis GV80 Coupe With All the 'Bells and Whistles.' Then He Brings It Back a Day Later Woman Gets Into Her Kia. Then Out of Nowhere, Her Screen Starts Smoking In 2021, a Redditor posted a video of a nearly identical situation at a Costco. Just like Breezy, they held the gas pump handle with its lever disengaged. Despite not pouring any gasoline, the cost kept increasing from $52.50 to $52.55. In 2018, an NBC outlet in Orlando, Florida reported that a 'ghost gas pump' was charging customers while they weren't pumping. A customer who spotted the issue, upon reporting it to the gas station employee, was reportedly told that 'nothing could be done.' The outlet says that the gas station subsequently closed the pump for repairs. What if I Encounter Meter Creep? AZ Central reports that meter creep typically isn't caused intentionally to swindle customers. Usually, 'aging equipment or equipment malfunction' is the culprit. If you encounter meter creep, the outlet advises you to contact your local weights and measures department. These inspectors are tasked with routinely checking pumps at stations in their designated areas. They also inspect pumps if people report a malfunction. AZ Central notes that establishments with a history of violations are prioritized for inspections. Meter creep can be combated with routine maintenance of fuel pumps. Cleaning out nozzles and valves of debris and fuel residue can help ensure effective operation. Several TikTok users who replied to Breezy's video recommended she contact local inspectors in the weights and measures department to inform them about the faulty pump. Others were more concerned with her getting her money back. 'Better show the cashier and get that refund,' wrote one. Someone else speculated that 7-Eleven in question, which isn't identified in her post, will likely find themselves in hot water as a result of the discrepancy. 'That fine is about to be crazy," they said. "Report that gas station.' Many recommend that other drivers pay attention when they're fueling. As one said, 'You can hear the gas filling up in the car. If you stop hearing what sounds like liquid filling up an enclosed space, it's done.' Another said that meter creep is part of the reason why they prepay. Still others suggested the problem is more widespread than a single pump at the 7-Eleven Breezy visited. 'I would never get gas at 711,' one opined. Black Man Found Hanging From A Tree In New York, Police Call It Suicide
Source: WISH-TV / WISH-TV On June 11, a Black man was found hanging dead from a tree in Albany, New York. While police have labeled it a suicide, locals and people identifying themselves as family members of the man are skeptical. According to the Times Union, a call was made at around 8 a.m. last Wednesday, and officers found a body hanging from a tree on Westerlo Street. Videos circulated on social media showing the body, but were quickly taken down. When a Black man is hanging from a tree, the first thought is lynching, given America's sordid history with the practice, but local police were quick to push back against that narrative 'At this time, based upon preliminary investigation, the circumstances appear to be consistent with suicide and no evidence to suggest that the incident is criminal in nature,' a statement from Albany police reads. Locals have taken to social media and TikTok to express their disbelief at how little coverage the hanging has received in the local media. There's been skepticism over it being a cut-and-dry suicide given how little information has been released about the incident. In fact, most reporting on the case has come from locals doing their own digging into what happened. While police have not released the name of the man, social media posts and a GoFundMe page seem to point to the deceased being one Earl Smith. There are few confirmed, concrete details about the case, and we don't want to get into baseless speculation, but the lack of coverage and the alleged refusal to review camera footage is a bit suspect. Committing a crime in 2025 is somewhat foolish because there are cameras all over every city. I learned this during the Jonathan Majors trial when footage was released showing the assault and chase from several different camera angles throughout the city. It shouldn't be hard to see exactly what led to this man's death. Looking at comments on TikTok's show that several Albany residents have expressed disbelief that the story hasn't received more coverage. 'I work in Albany and live in the area and haven't heard a single thing about this until now. How is nobody saying anything about it?,' wrote one commenter. America loves to espouse how racism doesn't exist anymore and that lynchings are a thing of the past, yet Sundown Towns still exist. Whether it's literally hanging or alleged extrajudicial killings by the police, lynching hasn't gone away. The attitudes that encourage this violence against Black people have only become more and more normalized. In fact, they run rampant within the current presidential administration. From the ongoing attacks on DEI, Stephen Miller's entire existence, to the Pentagon's Chief Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson making several social media posts parroting the 'Great Replacement theory,' the most dangerous and insidious ideas of white supremacy are currently influencing the laws and policy that govern the country. Hate groups have gone down in America because the ideas they espouse have gone mainstream. In recent years, there have been several suspicious hangings of Black people that police label suicide, but have left family members questioning whether or not they were lynchings. Last year, Javion Magee was found hanging from a tree in North Carolina, and his deathwas labeled a suicide by police after video footage showed him buying a utility rope in a local Walmart. His family hired a private investigator and an independent medical examiner to see if their findings match the official police report. In 2020, a video went viral showing four white men attempting to lynch Vauhxx Booker during a July 4 celebration in Lake Monroe. Charges would be filed against the men, as well as Booker himself. The charges against all involved were dropped in 2022 after Booker and the two white men also charged in the case went through a restorative justice process. While we still don't know for certain what exactly led to this man's hanging in Albany, recent events have shown it's more than understandable why residents and the alleged family members are questioning whether or not it was a lynching.
