NATIONAL ART GALLERY BRINGS OVER 140 TITLES, INTERACTIVE ART TO PBAKL 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) – The National Art Gallery is showcasing more than 140 of its publications at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2025 (PBAKL), bringing together critical writings, exhibition documentation and key reflections from the local leading art thinkers and practitioners.
The gallery will occupy booth 9-16 at the Plaza Merdeka Marquee Tent on Level 4 of the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, offering a range of interactive workshops, live sketching sessions and family-friendly activities throughout the 10-day event.
In a statement, the gallery said its collection includes titles that contribute to Malaysia's growing body of visual arts literature, making them valuable references for students, researchers and art enthusiasts alike.
Alongside the books, visitors will be able to purchase exclusive merchandise, including art-themed drink tumblers, tote bags, mugs, lanyards, caps, notebooks and postcards, aimed at collectors and fans of local art.
Programmes will range from Blooming Joy-themed do-it yourself (DIY) bookmark and keychain workshops to Luahan Kata sessions, live caricature drawing, calligraphy demonstrations and a shrink plastic art showcase.

The gallery is also offering walk-in activities like artwork-matching games and colouring stations designed to engage children and families.
One of the fair's highlights is a live book sketching session on its final day, featuring national laureate Datuk Dr Lim Swee Tin, who will perform in a traditional Menora costume as he brings a literary work to life.
The gallery will also feature on the main stage at Plaza Merdeka with special segments including a casual dialogue between acclaimed filmmaker Dr U-Wei Haji Saari and veteran designer Mustaffa Ahmad Hidzir (Tapa Otai), centred on their collaborative photo book 'STAGES 0.1'.
The programme will also feature an art workshop led by UNEH, a visual artist who styles himself as the Raja Pensil Warna (King of Colour Pencils), known for his vibrant and illustrative works.
"All initiatives are designed to be fresh, inclusive and accessible, in line with our commitment to make art engaging for all," the gallery said.
Special book bundles will be available at promotional prices during the fair and the public is encouraged to visit the gallery's booth to explore exclusive publications and limited-edition merchandise.

Fazura, who is also a singer and television host, said she preferred not to comment further as it involves two separate entities. "Honestly, there's nothing I can explain because we have to understand that I, Fazura, and the company are two different entities. I can't comment on company matters as that is beyond my scope as an individual. The company is the company, and Fazura is me personally, that's the distinction. "So really, I can't say much about the company or whatever is going on. I've left all my company-related matters to my lawyers to take action," she said. Fazura made these remarks when asked by reporters to comment on the RM4.65 million lawsuit filed by a headscarf supplier against her company Pink Fate Sdn Bhd. Advertisement Admitting that she is affected by the controversy, the 'Pisau Cukur' star said such issues are among the challenges any entrepreneur must face. "What haven't I gone through in the past eight months? Of course, I've been affected. I'm not someone without feelings but as an entrepreneur, I understand this is normal. "I know the business I'm running isn't a small one and I'm confident all entrepreneurs out there will understand the challenges that come with being in the business world," she added. According to media reports early last month, headscarf manufacturer Obor Holding Sdn Bhd is taking legal action against Pink Fate for allegedly owing the company RM4.65 million. 'Queen of Dangdut' Zaleha Hamid passes away at 70

Photo: Filepic Malaysian singer Zaleha Hamid, who rose to fame in the 1980s, died due to a lung infection at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru at about 8.30pm on June 19. She was 70. Her husband, Ungku Sulaiman Ungku Aziz, confirmed the news when contacted by Bernama. "My wife was admitted to the hospital on the second day of Hari Raya Aidiladha. Around 6pm (on June 19), she began experiencing shortness of breath while we were feeding her milk through a tube. "She had been bedridden since suffering a stroke in 2020,' he said. Ungku Sulaiman said her remains will be laid to rest at the Kassim Noor Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Sungai Danga, Johor Bahru after Friday prayers (on June 20). Besides her husband, Zaleha is survived by three children and six grandchildren. A celebrated singer and entertainer in Malaysia and Singapore, she was recognised as one of the pioneers of dangdut music and was fondly known as the Queen of Dangdut. Among her popular songs were J angan Segan Segan, Jangan Kau Tangiskan, Nasib Janda, Sesejuk Airmata Ibu and Dangdut Reggae . She also recorded duets such as Inang Aidilfitri with the late Datuk Sudirman, Sesuci Kasihku Semurni Cintamu with Aziz Ahmad and Joget Burung Merpati with Herman Tino. – Bernama
