Queen to appear in favourite author's new crime thriller about killer in Palace

Peter James's latest Detective Superintendent Roy Grace thriller centres on a race to stop a killer at Buckingham Palace.
Camilla is depicted travelling aboard the Royal Train when disaster strikes and it derails, and a trusted aide is shot by a sniper, leading Grace to head to the Palace to investigate, the Daily Mail revealed.
The Queen is understood to have been aware of the book.
James – one of Camilla's favourite authors – is said to have carried out extensive research about the famous royal residence.
In the publicity for the novel, publisher Pan Macmillan describes James as the 'Creator of Her Majesty Queen Camilla's favourite fictional detective'.
It says of the plot: 'A tragic accident or a planned attack?… Despite all the evidence, Roy Grace is not convinced the Queen was the intended target… Failure at this level is not an option. But time is running out before a killer in the Palace will strike again.'
The also King features in The Hawk Is Dead: A Killer In The Palace, which is due out in October.
The Queen, a voracious reader and passionate supporter of a number of literary charities, previously recommended James's blockbusters as part her Reading Room book club.
In 2021, she visited the set of Grace – ITV's television adaptation of James's books which stars John Simm as the troubled but methodical detective – and joked about asking for a cameo role.
She told James: 'I love your books. I've read them all, cover to cover.'

Dame Deborah James' husband finds love again three years after her death

Campaigner Dame Deborah James died three years ago from bowel cancer. Dame Deborah James's widower, Sebastien Bowen, has been reported to be 'very much in love' as he is said to have found love again three years on from the campaiger's death. Dame Deborah tragically passed away in June 2022 after a battle with bowel cancer. Prior to her death, the podcaster was said to have encouraged her husband to 'move on' after her passing. Now three years later, it has been claimed that Sebastien has once again found love as he was seen with a mystery woman enjoying a date during the UK heatwave. Only at the age of 40 at the time of her death, Deborah had been battling an incurable form of bowel cancer and was very outspoken about her journey. While she raised millions for cancer research, she also did not hide the fact that she wanted her husband to move on when she was gone, reports the Mirror. Sebestien was reportedly seen last week to be walking along the River Thames in London hand in hand with a mystery woman. The couple was said to have dined at The River Cafe in Hammersmith, west London, as part of their day out. Seen to be wearing a casual blue shirt, a pair of chinos and trainers, Sebestien was certainly dressed to beat the heat as temperatures soared across the country. His new brunette partner was said to be wearing a striking red dress, perfect for the summer weather. A source told the Daily Mail: "They looked like they were very much in love." They also said the pair was seen to be gazing lovingly at each other as they walked with their arms wrapped around one another. They added: "It was very sweet. For anyone who was inspired by Dame Deborah's attitude to life, it was really heartening to see her husband looking happy again." It was reported last year that Sebestien had started to look for love again, but he was taking things "very slowly". An insider said: "Deborah is going to be a tough act to follow, as they had a fantastic marriage and made a great couple. But Seb feels the time has come for him to move on, as Deborah wanted him to." Known by millions on social media as Bowelbabe, Dame Deborah documented her cancer journey online and managed to raise over £11million for cancer research. As she was upfront and honest about her battle with the incurable disease, it was no surprise she gave the same honesty about wanting her husband to move on. Talking on the BBC Radio 5 Live show You, Me and The Big C, she described her husband as a "very eligible bachelor" and said she was aware that he would get attention from other women after her passing. She said: "I have given him strict instructions. I want him to move on. He's a handsome man, I'm like, 'Don't be taken for a ride, don't marry a bimbo, find someone else who can make you laugh like we did." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! However, while she was encouraging of her widower finding a new love, she also joked that she had a list of people she didn't want him to go on and date. If he did, she joked: "I would do my damned hardest to haunt him." Dame Deborah and Sebestien met in 2005 and went to get married three years later and have two kids. While it is tough for any family to lose a loved one, it seems that Sebestien has been blessed by both his wife and her family to move on. In 2023, Deborah's mum Heather said: "Deborah will be a hard act to follow but he has our blessing."

'Over the 50 years, I have interviewed and chatted to some of the most amazing people. It may have been you. Maybe we'll catch up for the last time.' During the show a caller named Paula got in contact, with James then explaining how emotional he'd been about confronting his mortality. 'I spend a lot of time crying. And it really, it's a bit embarrassing, Paula, to be quite honest with you,' he told her. 'I'm heading into the sunset, and I talk about it regularly on the show and you know it's interesting because now everybody talks about it. 'Not me, not mine, but their own, you know, they don't feel that they're doing it quite right without having a cancer to talk about.' Earlier this month James also admitted things were now becoming 'very, very difficult' and he had started wearing make-up on air to appear healthy. 'To anybody else who is in the final stages of cancer, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you're going through; I do know. I look basically OK, I get told, 'You look alright' – it's all makeup,' he shared. His confession came not long after the broadcaster said he would be 'exceptionally lucky to make it to Christmas'. 'Sometimes I think it will be easier just to have a heart attack and go,' he admitted. James is no longer undergoing any treatment after all options to reverse his cancer were exhausted. He previously said the decision was made to prioritise his 'quality of life' and focus on 'making memories' with loved ones. The presenter also wanted to continue working as long as he could. 'I'm at the end of my cancer journey. I can't tell you how grateful I am to Talk [TV] to actually let me on the air and sit next to Ash, which is a real pain in the butt, but I've been doing it for 25 years!', he said. 'It might actually be helping me, you never know, so I don't let that cloud my judgement – but on the medication I am on, I'm all over the place. 'I'm hoping to go on for another few weeks, few months, but as soon as I can't do the show anymore, I won't.' When initially diagnosed with kidney cancer 25 years ago, James was told he only had three months to live.
