Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley were a match made in heaven for the Chicago Sky, on and off the court. Unfortunately, Vandersloot is out for the season due to a torn ACL she sustained last Saturday against the Indiana Fever.

On top of that, her better half Quigley's career has come to an end in a formal essay she wrote, per The Player's Tribune. Quigley's essay, entitled 'Irish Goodbye,' describes her pursuit of retirement as being in keeping with a particular cultural tradition.
'You know that phrase, 'Irish goodbye'? Where you're at a party or something, and you just kind of….. leave, quietly, without making a big thing of it?' she wrote. 'Well, I heard someone say recently that I pulled an Irish goodbye on the W. That made me laugh.'
She hinted that after the 2021 Sky championship season, she was getting closer to retirement. Quigley took the 2023-2025 seasons off to prioritize motherhood. She and Vandersloot welcomed a baby girl named Jana Christine on April 8.
In the essay, Quigley thanked everyone vital to her and instrumental in her career. She thanked her mother and her hometown of Joliet, Illinois, for being her foundation.

Furthermore, Quigley thanked Ann Meyers Drysdale, who brought her onto the Phoenix Mercury during her rookie season in 2008. She gave props to her Sky coaches, Pokey Chatman, Amber Stocks, and James Wade.
Quigley then concluded by thanking the Sky organization, the fans, the WNBA, and certainly Vandersloot. She played 14 seasons in the WNBA with the Sky, Mercury, Seattle Storm, Indiana Fever, and San Antonio Silver Stars (now the Las Vegas Aces).
However, her career blossomed when she was in Chicago.

Quigley joined the Sky in 2013. For ten seasons, she became one of their best shooters and scorers. At one point, Quigley was the all-time leading scorer in franchise history with 3,723 points.

A record that Vandersloot eclipsed against the Dallas Wings on May 29. Also, Quigley was a catalyst for the Sky's improbable title run in 2021.
She averaged 13.2 points per game and made 45% of her three-point shot attempts. Undoubtedly, Quigley became a fan favorite in Chicago.
She was heralded for her role as a leader and mentor.

ESPN commentator apologizes for saying 'That's what makes America great' during awkward WNBA broadcast moment
An awkward on-air silence occurred during ESPN's broadcast of the Indiana Fever-Las Vegas Aces game on Sunday after analyst Rebecca Lobo said, "That's what makes America great." Lobo's comment was in reference to saying she disagreed with officials making a foul call in the final minute of the Aces' 89-81 win over the Fever. "They disagree with you," play-by-play announcer Pam Ward said to her partner Lobo. "They do, and I disagree with them," Lobo responded. "And that's fine. That's what makes America great, right Pam Ward?" After asking that question, there was a long silence between the two before Lobo said, "I should rephrase that," to which Ward responded, "Yes." Ward, then, suggested Lobo say "difference of opinion," which she agreed. She even said "sorry about that" before continuing to call the game. The Caitlin Clark-led Fever were down for the second straight game, as the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year struggled shooting from the three-point line yet again. After going 0-for-7 in the loss to the Golden State Valkyries last Thursday, Clark was just 1-for-10 in Las Vegas. While she could not find the stroke from long range, the Aces came back in the fourth quarter to beat the Fever, who led through the first three periods of the game. Clark went 7-of-20 from the field with four made free throws for a total of 19 points. Meanwhile, three-time league MVP A'ja Wilson and her 24 points for the game started taking over on their home court in crunch time. Teamed up with Jackie Young (19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals) and Chelsea Gray (18 points, three rebounds, three assists), Wilson and the Aces outscored the Fever 31-20 in the fourth quarter to run away with the victory. While Clark was struggling with her jumper in this game, the Fever were seeing great contributions from the game's leading scorer, Aliyah Boston, who had 26 points on 12-of-19 shooting, and Kelsey Mitchell, who had a big chunk of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to keep Indiana in the game. However, after Mitchell's three-pointer tied things at 69 apiece with five minutes to play, the Aces strapped in and started to pull away, thanks to some key baskets from Young, Wilson and Gray. The West Coast schedule continues for the Fever with a final game against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday before heading back home. Citron, a rookie guard, had 27 points and 11 rebounds and hit the go-ahead three-point shot with 12.2 seconds remaining in overtime as the Mystics beat the Dallas Wings 91-88 in Washington. Citron was 9 of 13 from the field and had four three-pointers (a career best). Her effort helped move the Mystics to 6-8. Dallas fell to 3-12. Southwick Motocross 2025 preview: Top finishes, previous winners, historic results, who to watch
Following an off-week in the schedule, the 2025 Pro Motocross series heads to The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, to play in the sandbox for Round 5. Jett Lawrence is the defending champion of this race, which is part of an incredible 19 overall victories in 20 Pro Motocross rounds. However, this race will be the last time in 2025 that this distinction will hold true. Last year, Jett injured his thumb in a practice crash following the Southwick event and missed the remainder of the season, only to return and win two of the three SuperMotocross Championship rounds and the championship. Dan Beaver, Jett's sweep of the motos last week moves his total to 34 of 40 races. NBC Sports analyst Ricky Carmichael has the most wins on this track with eight, while second-place Jeff Stanton has four. The winningest active rider is Eli Tomac, who sits third on the chart with three. He could move up one spot to tie Stanton for second on the list, or the more likely alternative is that Jett will move up one position and tie Tomac for third. A Remarkable Headline However, regardless of those outcomes, this will be a special race, as this venue often favors dark horses. Jett and Eli are the only riders in the field with multiple overall victories, and 16 others have one each. Dylan Ferrandis is included in that list, but the vast majority of the field has not yet won at The Wick. Justin Cooper and Aaron Plessinger are poised to capitalize on the egalitarian nature of this venue. Fans should add Hunter Lawrence's name to that list as he is one of five riders who have swept the top five in the first four rounds alongside Jett, Tomac, Plessinger, and Cooper. And Hunter is tired of finishing second, having done so seven times in his career without an overall victory. RJ Hampshire is the only other rider with four top-10s to his credit in 2025. Remarkably, in three seasons — one of which was shortened by injury — Jett has already moved to 10th on the all-time 450 Motocross wins list. If he scores the overall victory this week, he will tie James Stewart and Jeff Stanton for eighth. 250 Notes Haiden Deegan looks to defend his 2024 Southwick victory, a task made easier by the departure of Chance Hymas following an ACL injury last week at High Point. Deegan has dominated the first four rounds with two 'perfect' days. He was the fastest qualifier and swept motos in two rounds (Hangtown and High Point), marking the first time that has been accomplished since Dylan Ferrandis in 2020. All three of Deegan's victories this season came after he swept the motos. But winning back-to-back races at The Wick is difficult. In the past 11 rounds on this track, there have been 11 different winners, according to Jo Shimoda could emerge as Deegan's fiercest competitor this week. Southwick is his best track with four podiums in four rounds. In that span, he's accumulated two moto wins, but they came in the past two seasons in the second race of the day after he experienced terrible starts. Shimoda was 6-1 in 2023 and 9-1 last year before finishing third overall. He'll need to get off the gate quickly in Moto 1 this week to reverse the trend.
