Demand for quota in jobs, exams to test govt

Jaipur: The OBC Adhikar Manch, Rajasthan, formally extended its support to the Gurjar Arakshan Manch in their ongoing demand for the full constitutional implementation of the 5% reservation granted to Gurjars, Rebaris, Banjaras, Labanas, and Gairis under the Most Backward Classes (MBC) category in Rajasthan.
Lokendra Gurjar, state spokesperson of the OBC Adhikar Manch, released a statement Sunday affirming the Manch's support and expressing deep concern over the continued denial of legal recognition to the quota.
"Despite the sacrifices of over 80 community members in the police firing in 2007 and 2008 and repeated promises by successive govts, this reservation still lacks constitutional protection. It is not just a policy failure—it is an injustice," he said.
He also highlighted the exclusion of eight southern districts—Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Udaipur, Sirohi, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, and Pali—from the benefits of the MBC quota, further disadvantaging aspirants in TSP (Tribal Sub-Plan) areas. "Youth from these regions are being systematically excluded from police, REET, patwari, and other key govt recruitments due to lack of age and cut-off relaxations.
This must end," he added.
Calling on the state govt to act decisively, Gurjar said, "Before the 2023 Assembly elections, Union minister Bhupender Yadav and BJP in-charge Arun Singh promised action on this issue. Now, the govt must fulfil its word. Enough of delays and diversions."
The Manch also confirmed that it submitted a memorandum to the chief minister and requested a formal meeting on the issue. "If the govt continues to ignore the genuine and constitutional demand of the Gurjar community, a joint movement cannot be ruled out," said Gurjar.

Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner Darshan HV instructed govt departments to expedite the selection process of beneficiaries of schemes under various corporations and approve the benefits quickly. He spoke while presiding over a meeting of various committees of the social welfare department, at the deputy commissioner's office on Friday. He emphasised that it is not appropriate to delay processes such as the verification of beneficiary records, site inspections, and other procedures, as this results in eligible beneficiaries not receiving facilities in a timely manner. He advised that, if necessary, only the residential verification of beneficiaries should be conducted, and the facilities should be approved swiftly. To ensure equal access to beneficiary selection, a taluk-wise selection process will be considered, he said. The DC said discussions will be held with bankers regarding the rejection of applications under bank-based loan facilities due to low CIBIL scores. He instructed the officials of urban local bodies to report any accidents or deaths involving civic workers to the deputy commissioner office within 24 hours. The relief funds for civic workers should not be used for other purposes, he directed. Additional deputy commissioner G Santhosh Kumar emphasised that all departments should promptly select beneficiaries for SCP/TSP schemes and utilise the funds within the stipulated time. Hemalatha S, the deputy director of the social welfare department, said that in Dakshina Kannada, 24 Dalit atrocity cases were registered until the end of May 2025, and compensation of Rs 22.1 lakh was provided in 16 of these cases.

Ensure timely implementation of schemes for holistic development of tribal areas: Rajasthan CM tells officials

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday reiterated the state government's unwavering commitment to the welfare and holistic development of Scheduled Tribes and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) areas. He emphasised that the Rajasthan Scheduled Tribes Advisory Council is playing a vital role in ensuring the effective implementation of key schemes of both the Central and state governments. Presiding over the meeting of the Rajasthan Scheduled Tribes Advisory Council organised by the Tribal Area Development Department at the Chief Minister's residence on Friday, CM Sharma urged public representatives to actively support the ongoing Dharti Aaba Jan-Bhagidari Abhiyan, being held from June 15 to 30 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. He instructed officials to expedite the resolution of pending individual and community claims under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, and issue rights certificates without delay. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the timely and quality execution of projects sanctioned under the Tribal Area Development Department. He stressed the need to complete all works announced in the 2024–25 budget promptly and to accelerate implementation of the 2025–26 budget announcements. He also called for timely disbursement of scholarships to students through the School Education, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Higher Education Departments. Additionally, Sharma instructed departments to fast-track progress in Water Resources projects and initiatives by the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments. He emphasised quality construction in road projects and effective execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission. He further directed authorities to ensure timely electricity connections in tribal called for focused implementation of Central government initiatives, especially the Prime Minister TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, by ensuring patient identification and providing treatment assistance in the TSP areas. He urged officials to expedite the work approved under PM-Janman, and ensure 100 per cent benefit delivery to tribal families through initiatives like the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. He also emphasised the need to boost tribal livelihoods through the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana. The Chief Minister directed public representatives to actively participate in the upcoming Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Sambal Pakhwada, commencing June 24, to ensure last-mile delivery of welfare schemes to the needy. He also instructed officials to maintain high standards of food and nutrition at Maa-Baadi centers and to regularly inspect residential schools and hostels in TSP regions. Pending distribution of mini seed kits must be completed at the earliest, he added. Present on the occasion were Tribal Area Development Minister Babulal Kharari, Revenue Minister Hemant Meena, among others. Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant, along with Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and senior officials from various departments, also attended the meeting.

Rajesh Pilot's 25th death anniversary: How an accident cut short Congress leader's career

Former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Rajesh Pilot, father to Sachin Pilot, lost his life in a road accident on June 11, 2000. As per reports, Mr. Pilot's jeep collided with a bus in his Lok Sabha constituency Dausa, about 50 km from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was rushed to Sawai Man Singh hospital in Jaipur for treatment but succumbed to his injury. Former Indian Air Force pilot-turned-politician Rajesh Pilot had sustained multiple injuries on his head, chest, and face following the tragic crash around 4:45 pm in 2000 and as per reports, he was all set to travel to Delhi, however, his jeep collided head-on with a Rajasthan Road Transport bus. Facts about Pilot A former minister for internal security, Rajesh Pilot was earlier given Z+ security. Although there was no foul play involved in the incident, President of Pheruman Akali Dal, Mahant Sewa Dass Singh, demanded a probe into events leading to the accident. Mahendra Meena recalled that Rajesh Pilot was a leader who lived with humility and treated everyone equally, never drawing distinctions between the powerful and the common people. His personal life Rajesh Pilot was born in a small village in Uttar Pradesh on February 10, 1945 and he lost his armyman-father Jai Dayal Singh at an early age. Following the death, Rajesh Pilot moved to Delhi and worked as a milkman at affluent Delhi localities and later went on to join the Indian Air Force. It was in 1979 when Pilot got his ministerial break where his meeting with then Congress President Indira Gandhi began the chapter of politics in his life, and later he registered his first election win in Bharatpur and Dausa, after getting a ticket to contest the elections. Apart from this, he even emerged as a prominent Gurjar leader in the community.
