Karnataka CM Responds To Fatal Bengaluru Stadium Incident, Cites Historical Precedents
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a press conference Thursday following the devastating stampede at a Bengaluru stadium that resulted in 11 fatalities and approximately 50 injuries. "Multiple stampede incidents have taken place previously," Siddaramaiah stated, while emphasizing that his comments should not be interpreted as justification for the current incident. He specifically mentioned the Kumbh Mela stampede from earlier this year as an example, but stressed his intent was not to defend the Bengaluru tragedy.
The Chief Minister explained the circumstances that led to the disaster, highlighting the massive disparity between expected and actual attendance. While the stadium's official capacity stands at 35,000 people, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 individuals gathered at the venue, creating an unprecedented situation that overwhelmed the facility's safety measures.
Siddaramaiah also drew attention to a contrasting scenario that occurred at Vidhan Soudha, where more than 100,000 people assembled without any adverse incidents. This comparison underscored the unpredictable nature of crowd management and the specific challenges faced at the stadium location.
The Chief Minister's remarks came as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the stampede and work to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The incident has raised serious questions about crowd control measures and safety protocols at large public gatherings in the state.

Road Upgrade For Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Gets Gadkari Nod
Nagpur: In a major boost for road connectivity to Nashik for Kumbh Mela 2027, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Sunday approved upgradation, along with construction in some patches, of up to eight highways leading to the city. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting support for upgrading the road infrastructure so that Maharashtra is prepared to handle the influx of visitors to Nashik. After a meeting with Gadkari in Nagpur, Fadnavis also informed reporters that projects related to the Nashik Ring Road as well as Dwarka Circle were discussed. "We have identified certain highways which lead towards Nashik, and their upgradation was extremely important. These include roads coming from Dhule, Sambhaji Nagar, Mumbai, Palghar, Nagpur and Gujarat. Along with this, there are some internal roads which also need to be upgraded to support the flow of visitors towards Nashik," said Fadnavis. "Gadkari ji held a meeting regarding our request and he has approved all the projects. Soon, a DPR will be prepared and funds allotted. Center to develop nine roads leading to Nashik ahead of Kumbh mela
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that all roads connecting Nashik will be developed and upgraded in view of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik. A total of nine roads will be developed by the central government ahead of the religious meet in 2027 and as per the preliminary estimate, the work is likely to cost a further Rs 4000 crore. A high-level meeting regarding the highway connecting Nashik was held on Sunday in the presence of Union Road Development Minister Nitin Gadkari at Nagpur. Gadkari extended in-principle approval to the construction of necessary roads and facilities required for the upcoming Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik as a huge crowd of devotees is expected to arrive, leading to a strain on the traffic system. It was decided that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared soon and funds will be made available for this. The routes to be developed include, Ghoti – Pahine – Trimbakeshwar – Jawhar Phata; Dwarka Circle – Sinnar IC 21 (Samruddhi Expressway) Nandur Shingote – Kolhar; Nashik to Kasara; Savli Vihir (IC 20 Samruddhi Expressway) Shirdi – Shani Shingnapur Phata (Rahuri Khurd); Nashik to Dhule; Trimbakeshwar – Jawhar – Manor; Shadow Well – Manmad – Malegaon; Ghoti – Sinnar – Vavi – Shirdi; Shani Shingnapur Phata (Rahuri Khurd) – Ahilyanagar (Kharwandi Phata).The meeting approved the Nashik Ring Road. Along with this, it was decided to make the Nashik to Trimbak road six-lane. 'The cost will be calculated post preparation of the DPR. But the central government has assured all possible financial help as well,' said an official from the Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD). He added, the estimated Rs 4000 crore is for the construction of roads and additional money will be required for the Nashik ring road project. 'Keeping in view the increasing interest of devotees towards Kumbh Mela and the expected crowd, I had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide assistance at the central government level for its successful planning and enabling infrastructure road development. As a result this meeting was held today,' said Fadnavis. There are eight important routes to Nashik from Mumbai, Gujarat, Palghar, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Sambhajinagar, Dhule. All these routes and the internal roads in Nashik city and the district also connect to the national highway. The meeting considered the development of all those roads. CM Fadnavis said that the expanded road network will provide more safe facilities to the devotees as it will handle the huge traffic expected during the Kumbh Mela.

Ahead of Delhi visit, Siddaramaiah meets Governor to discuss pending Bills with the President
Ahead of his visit to Delhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday met the Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to discuss the Bills that are pending with the President's office for assent and those that have been returned seeking clarification. According to sources, the Chief Minister is scheduled to meet President Draupadi Murmu to discuss the pending Bills. Sources said five Bills are pending with the President currently, and three Bills have been sent back for clarification. He was accompanied by Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar when he met the Governor. Among the Bills pending with the President are the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2015; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The three Bills that have been returned for clarification are the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1944 (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2022; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2024; and the Karnataka (Mineral Rights and Minerals Bearing Lands) Tax Bill, 2024. Sources in the Chief Minister's Office said Mr. Siddaramaiah has scheduled events in Raichur on Monday, after which he would leave for Delhi from there. The meeting with the President has been scheduled for Tuesday.
