Hollyoaks star helping to rehome dog from Many Tears Rescue

Malique Thompson-Dwyer, best known for his role as Prince McQueen on Channel 4's Hollyoaks, has joined the search to find a special home for Promise, a long-term resident at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.
Promise, described by the rescue as a "forever pup," has complex needs and has not received a single rehoming enquiry despite months in care.
Mr Thompson-Dwyer said: "I fell for the little guy immediately and was so tempted to apply to adopt him myself, but he needs a home where someone can devote more of their time to him than I can.
"Even my mum was trying to work out a way so we could as a family adopt him.
"If I can help Sylvia find him the special home he deserves though, I will be really pleased."

Many Tears Animal Rescue primarily takes in ex-breeding dogs that have never experienced life in a home or known human kindness.
Since its founding, the rescue has rehomed nearly 40,000 dogs.

Ms Vanatta said: "I called him Promise as I made a promise to him that I would never give up on him.
"On arrival he showed obvious signs of complex needs.
"He had no spatial awareness, had very little control of his body, and was walking into everything.
"He didn't respond to human attention at all.
"He also didn't sniff, which is unheard of; it was as if his brain did not work like any other dog we had known."
Despite his challenges, Promise has made remarkable progress with the help of the rescue's dedicated staff.
Ms Vanatta said: "Through the sheer dedication of the staff here at the rescue, he now responds to his name, runs around without falling down, plays with a ball, and is learning 'how to be a dog'.
"He's adorable.
"It's very likely that he will always be pup-like, which means he needs a very special person to watch out for him on his behalf.
"For example, he doesn't recognise dangers.
"It will be like dealing with a toddler."

He said: "The search for the perfect owner starts here."
He has recorded a video about Promise that has been shared on social media by both himself and the charity.
Mr Thompson-Dwyer said: "Sylvia has invited me down to the charity again.
"She is a remarkable woman and the work the charity does is equally as remarkable."
The actor first gained recognition on CBBC's The Dumping Ground and has since appeared in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
He was the youngest contestant in the history of the latter show at the time, taking part at just 20 years old.

Hollyoaks star talks major change to soap and teases Clare and Mercedes twist

Hollyoaks favourite Jennifer Metcalfe told The Mirror all about a huge change she's noticed to the soap and the support from fans, as she teased an unexpected Clare and Mercedes twist One Hollyoaks icon has nothing but praise for loyal fans of the Channel 4 soap, after a surge in support and "noise" since some big changes were made. Actress Jennifer Metcalfe told The Mirror how in the past year or so, she's noticed more support than ever from viewers, amid some massive storylines. The soap made some big changes in the past year, from cast and crew cuts to dropping episodes and being heavily digital. ‌ During what was a no doubt worrying time for the cast and crew, the show has delivered some huge plots and episodes - some of which earned them some awards at the British Soap Awards just last month. Mercedes McQueen took centre stage in a cancer storyline that aired some of the most moving and important scenes ever to be shown on the soap. ‌ Now, actress Jennifer has shared her reaction to the support for her and her storyline, but also for Hollyoaks overall. She confessed that over the past decade or just under, it felt to those on the show that the buzz around the soap had died down, and perhaps people weren't as interested in the soap anymore. But since the transformation, the cast have been overwhelmed with the constant hype and online support for the characters and the episodes. Jennifer also said fans messaging her over Mercedes' health battle has "been amazing". She shared: "It has been amazing, honestly. There has been more noice around this show this year than in the past eight years. The feeling amongst us over the last few years was that maybe people didn't care as much." "Since Hannah Cheers [Executive Producer] has done the big turn around there has been such massive support." Jennifer also teased the big 30th episodes, while she couldn't give much away as much of it was being kept under wraps for now. What she did say though as that some changes had been made to plans, while she's also suspicious over a sudden flurry of scenes with one character in particular. She said: "Me and Anya Lawrence [who plays Vicky Grant] have had random scenes together that we never get." ‌ As Anya told us and Jennifer: "We never normally have this there's been some nice surprises in the scripts," Jennifer added: "We don't know if that's something coming up for the big 30th or not. "I say don't tell me cos I am a blabbermouth so I say don't tell me the storylines. But I don't know yet what's happening with it, I've heard they've changed their minds a few times but that's all they are telling us." ‌ The actress also promised more scenes with long-time rival and returning character Clare Devine. She promised Mercedes and Clare would be back with the fiery showdowns, but she also teased something unexpected would happen for them. Of her co-star Gemma Bissix she told us: "She's a force to be reckoned with on and off screen. The energy she brings to the building it's beautiful. The character is so iconic. There's always a decent clash with her and Mercedes. "But they do find some middle ground, something they can both kind of bond over this time, even if half of it is a lie. You get that softness out of the two characters. With Mercedes and Clare we see a softer side to their relationship dare I say, and fiery stuff as well." Hollyoaks is available to stream on Channel 4's streaming service now, while it also airs Mondays to Wednesdays on E4 at 7PM. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.

Homes Under The Hammer star 'failed on every level' with £500k pub rennovation

Martin Roberts has admitted he drastically underestimated the time and cost of his latest project, with his deadline of two years up and half a million spent on a derelict pub Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts admits he has "failed on every level", after he underestimated how challenging it would be to renovate a derelict South Wales pub. The former I'm A Celebrity contestant, 61, bought the Hendrewen Hotel in Rhondda in 2023, and invested half a million to revamp the rundown boozer. Not far from his own farmhouse, renovation guru Martin wanted to help the local community, which he said had "lost their heart". But he has now admitted he had completely misjudged how much time and money it would take. ‌ Having originally estimated it could be done in two years at the cost of £500,000, Martin has already gone over his deadline and the makeover is nowhere near finished. He admits it has been 'challenging', and has only been motivated to get through thanks to his team of 15-17 year olds, who have been working with his tradesmen. ‌ Martin hoped it would give them practical skills to use when they leave education, having chosen a pub in one of the most deprived areas in the country. The reality TV star wanted to give the kids a "step up the ladder" to help them get jobs when they finish, as well as planning to employ 30 locals when his project is finally complete. Speaking to the Sun, Martin explained how he felt like he'd failed. He told the paper: "For a man who spends all his time telling people to make sure they stick to their budgets and timescales, I have failed on every single level. "I'm still smiling but, oh my word, what a challenge it's been, I'll be honest, it's the first commercial property I've ever done. There have been lots of residential houses and flats, but commercial properties have a lot more complications, I'd say we are 60 per cent there." Martin's vision for his hotel includes an eight-bedroom establishment, with each of the rooms having a television theme. He plans to have Fawlty Towers, A Question of Sport and Homes Under The Hammer themed accommodations, paying homage to the show he's presented for more than 20 years. The TV star previously told WalesOnline: "I often act a bit on gut instinct, and possibly don't always tell my wife because sometimes I think there's a danger I will be talked out of things because they appear daft on the surface, I only sort of mention it when it's too late!' ‌ He added: 'I've never run a pub, I've never run a restaurant, and I've never run a hotel. So, hey, what could possibly go wrong?!" Martin's idea for his new venture came after he had emergency surgery and suffered a terrifying health scare after he suffered chest pains. He thought he had COVID, but when he was hospitalised, medics told him he had pericardial effusion - a build up of fluid around his heart. ‌ Doctors warned him that he could only have hours to live if he didn't go in for the op. He told Metro: "It was a bit of an eye-opener to be honest, being three hours from death, that's always going to ruin your day. "I was told to slow down and really take things easy… so I bought a pub which needed complete renovating and which I've got try and run, having no experience of running a pub, restaurant or a hotel. It suddenly makes you realise how fragile we all are in lots of ways."

Alison Hammond lost for words after being told she's 'repulsive'

Alison Hammond was rendered speechless after receiving an abusive message online. The This Morning presenter, 50, is beloved for her bubbly personality, infectious laugh, and always keeping it real on daytime telly. But while the nation has happily bestowed her with British icon status – which has been truly earned – it appears not everyone agrees. Taking to X last week, one critic simply had to let Alison know what they thought of her, much to everyone's shock. Sadly, the post from 77-year-old @PETER46760847 appeared to make its way to Alison's feed several days later, as she decided to respond last night. His original message read: 'Any time we see you are on TV we switch channels as you turn our stomachs being so fat and repulsive with a huge mouth.' Understandably astounded by the comment, all Alison could write back was: 'Wow !' It didn't take long for Alison's 400,000+ followers to leap to her defence, branding the remarks 'extremely mean and rude'. 'I'd just laugh at them babe, you're beautiful and they obviously are ugly on the inside', wrote @darloviper. 'What a horrible nasty person. How he can say that about you is beyond me, you never fail to make me smile even when I'm feeling low so thank you and keep being you xxx', added @DonnaRa01238683. @icon1_will implored her: 'keep on flooding his TV, WE LOVE YOU'. 'Listen Ali….Forget about those haters!!! Nothing better to do', agreed @jacquijdesigns. Others questioned why the individual was even tweeting Alison in the first place, given that his original tweet was replying to her pinned video, posted in 2021. The Big Brother star is, unfortunately, no stranger to calling out trolls. Last year, she clapped back at a derogatory message following her appearance on Channel 4's Celebrity Bake Off. The viewer tagged Alison and wrote: 'I imagine@AlisonHammond is a real nasty piece of work now, started to beleive her own hype [sic]'. Alison later replied with: 'Why is that I'll be having a lovely day and then someone who doesn't know from Adam writes such nasty message. 'Don't @ me keep Your nasty comment to yourself #bekind always.' When Alison became a This Morning regular alongside Dermot O'Leary in 2020, it's believed she had duty of care meetings with ITV bosses after being bombarded with hate online. Co-presenter Josie Gibson showed support for her after witnessing the barrage of abuse, saying: 'I can't believe some sad little sadsacks can be so vile to one of the most talented, infectious, caring, insanely hard-working, and one of the most beautiful souls on the planet.' She's also been forced to address backlash to her For the Love of Dogs signing, having taken over presenting duties of the much-loved ITV dog show following Paul O'Grady's death. Alison was admittedly 'surprised' by the criticism, telling Heat magazine: 'I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved, but people were saying, 'How can she do it when she doesn't have a dog? How can she love dogs when she doesn't have one?'' 'It's like saying, 'How can you love children when you haven't got kids?' It's such a flawed argument for me, and all I would say is, if you don't want to watch it, don't watch it.' Trolling has likely only been made more upsetting for Alison over the years when her appearance has been attacked. Speaking on Lorraine Kelly and daughter Rosie's What If? podcast in 2022, she said of weight-shaming trolling: 'Oh my gosh, like every day. Literally, I'm sure there's a tweet or a message. I think I saw a message yesterday from someone, something along the lines of, '[You] need to lose 40 stone,' I'm thinking, 'I'm not even 40 stone!'' More Trending Alison added: 'That would mean I'd be nothing. I'd be dead. Stupid woman. She said that, and I get it all the time, and I know I'm overweight; everyone can see I'm overweight; it's not a surprise to know I'm overweight.' She declared that she likes 'taking up a little bit of space' and is 'OK with it' as she isn't 'hurting anyone.' Over the past year, Alison has been working with a personal trainer after having an 'adult' realisation about her health and lifestyle, opting for dietary changes rather than weight loss medication.
