Bad Monkey EP Bill Lawrence Offers Season 2 Update, Confirms ‘Razor Girl' Adaptation On Hold in Favor of New Story With Same Cast
Eight months after Bad Monkey's Season 1 finale, and six months after the Vince Vaughn-led detective comedy was renewed at Apple TV+, executive producer Bill Lawrence tells TVLine that writing on Season 2 is nearly complete, and cameras will officially start rolling this fall. 'They're almost done in the writers' room,' the EP says. 'We already had to shoot a scene from Season 2 [in Florida, since production is] moving to California, and that starts production in earnest towards the end of September.' (In other words, don't expect a release date any sooner than 2026.) Fox, Shares Favorite Spin City Memory Shrinking EP Tees Up Brett Goldstein and Cobie Smulders' Returns, Michael J. Fox and Jeff Daniels' Season 3 Arcs As for the premise, Lawrence confirms that, while they fully intend to adapt the second Andrew Yancy-centric novel, 'Razor Girl,' for a future season, Season 2 will tell a wholly original story, with input from author Carl Hiaasen. ''Razor Girl' is a great novel for people who want to read it, but it's kind of a break from the characters of the first [book],' Lawrence explains, 'and we wanted to have some of the characters from the first season more front and center in the second' — including Natalie Martinez's Rosa. '[Season 2 is] an original story, but we're all Carl Hiaasen aficionados — and, also, Carl consults on the show and has been helping us a ton.' Vaughn stars as the aforementioned Andrew Yancy, a police detective who in Season 1 investigated a bizarre crime in the Florida Keys while on suspension from the force. Martinez co-starred as coroner Rosa, who emerged as a love interest for Yancy, with Rob Delaney and Meredith Hagner playing married scammers Nick and Eve Stripling. The ensemble also included Ronald Peet as Neville, John Ortiz as Ro, Jodie Turner-Smith as Gracie (aka the Dragon Queen) and Michelle Monaghan as Bonnie. Bad Monkey wrapped Season 1 in October. The finale found Yancy and Rosa agreeing to part ways, and Yancy's friend Ro tempting him to look into another case. Its freshman run was based on Hiaasen's 2013 novel, 'Bad Monkey,' while 'Razor Girl' was published in 2016. Ted Lasso Season 4: Everything We Know View List Best of TVLine 'Missing' Shows, Found! Joe Scarborough baffled by Pete Hegseth's ‘bumper sticker' answers on Israel-Iran conflict
Donald Trump abruptly left Canada and cut his trip to the G7 summit short on Monday, as the conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate. Following Trump's early departure, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth did little to calm the nerves of Americans who may be concerned about the possibility of the United States military getting drawn in. During an appearance on Fox News on Monday night, Hegseth was asked about the president's position on the hostilities, which Hegseth said had 'not changed.' He added, 'What you're watching in real time is peace through strength and 'America First.'' He also said that America's job is 'to be strong.' 'We are postured defensively in the region, to be strong in pursuit of a peace deal,' Hegseth said. 'And we certainly hope that's what happens here. And 'America first' means we're going to defend American personnel and American interests.' The defense secretary's answer — or lack thereof — didn't impress Joe Scarborough, who called out Hegseth on Tuesday's 'Morning Joe' for offering the public slogans instead of substance. 'What did that mean?' Scarborough asked after playing a clip of Hegseth's remarks. 'It's like a couple bumper stickers. He could have just held up bumper stickers. I don't understand what that means.' Scarborough questioned how U.S. involvement in the conflict between Israel and Iran could fit in with Trump's 'America First' agenda. After he told co-host Jonathan Lemire he was 'deeply confused' by Hegseth's remarks, Scarborough asked him for his interpretation. 'That was the secretary of defense speaking a lot of platitudes without a lot of meaning behind it,' Lemire answered. Watch Scarborough and Lemire's full exchange in the clip above. Chris Matthews says it's fair to call Obama's Iran nuclear deal a 'joke'
Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews offered surprising criticism of former President Obama on Friday after Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a sweeping strike on Iran's nuclear sites Thursday evening. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that one of Iran's top nuclear facilities had been hit in the operation intended to target Iran's nuclear and missile infrastructure. Two Iranian generals and at least 20 senior Iranian commanders were also killed in the strikes. According to an IDF spokesman, the strike came after Jerusalem had collected "high-quality intel" that suggested "Iran is closer than ever to developing a nuke." During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Friday, Matthews defended Israel's attack, saying the country "can't afford to have an aggressive war by nuclear weapons with Iran." Trump Says Israel's Next Iran Attack Will Be Even More Brutal: 'Make A Deal' "They have to stop them from having nuclear weapons," he said, before criticizing Obama's 2015 nuclear deal with Iran that President Donald Trump withdrew from in his first term. Read On The Fox News App "Now, Obama said, 'I'll put a time limit on it. 'They can't have one for five years.' Well, fairly enough, Trump said, 'That's a joke. Five years, they'll have one.' So that's not going to stop them," Matthews said. The criticism of the former president is notable since Matthews is widely remembered for saying he "felt a thrill" up his leg listening to then-candidate Obama speak during the 2008 election. Obama's office did not immediately return Fox News Digital's request for comment. Chris Matthews Suggests Trump 'Smart' To Target Harvard And Elite Universities Matthews continued on Friday by discussing how Trump should deal with Iran: "So he can't make a deal that says X many years. He can't come out and say, 'Okay, we're going to stop them from getting a weapon for five years.' He'll be laughed at because that's what the Obama deal was. So he has to really get rid of the bomb-making ability of that country." In 2018, Trump terminated the U.S. participation in the nuclear deal with Iran, calling it "one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into." Matthews said that Iran "wants to bomb Israel," so destroying their ability to make nuclear weapons is the only option. "He's got to stop them from their nuclear route. He's got to get them off that route to something else," the former "Hardball" host said of Trump. "But I think it's an aggressive war by Iran, and that's why people are rooting for Israel in this situation with Iran," Matthews added. Iran's Long Trail Of Deception Fuels Skepticism Over New Nuclear Deal As Talks Continue On Thursday, Trump told Fox News that he was aware beforehand that Israel was going to launch strikes as he urged Iran to make a deal. "Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb, and we are hoping to get back to the negotiating table. We will see. There are several people in leadership in Iran that will not be coming back," Trump said.
