Comcast reaches first homes, businesses in Dunellen
DUNELLEN – Comcast has wired its first residential and business customers in the borough.
In 2024, the Borough Council approved an ordinance to give Comcast permission to wire the borough for internet, TV and phone service to create competition so that Optimum, the borough's primary broadband service provider, will be motivated to "lower their rates and provide better services."
Mayor Jason Cilento also said at the time that he hoped Comcast would "give Optimum Altice a little run for their money."
In 2023 the borough approved Planet Network as an internet provider.
Comcast began wiring the south side of the borough last summer.
The news that Comcast has reached its first customers was welcomed by the mayor.

"We are excited to welcome Comcast's powerful network to Dunellen,' Cilento said. 'This investment provides our community with more options for high-quality Internet, television, and phone services while ensuring our residents and businesses have access to fast, reliable connectivity for all of their personal, educational, and professional needs.'
Residents can visit Xfinity.com/mytown and enter their address for additional details on construction timing and service availability.
"Our latest investment in Middlesex County expands our world-class network into this vibrant community, ensuring residents and businesses have access to cutting-edge technology," said Dan Bonelli, senior vice president of Comcast's Freedom Region. "We are excited to connect residents and businesses of Dunellen to what matters most with our full suite of products and services."
Comcast has also been given approval to begin wiring in Edison and Metuchen where residents and officials have also expressed criticism of Optimum's service.
In the past three years, Comcast has connected an additional 80,000 homes and businesses in New Jersey.
