"Was Of Paper": BJP After Minister Faces FIR For Throwing Slipper At Man

An FIR has been lodged against Union minister Sukanta Majumdar at a police station in Kolkata alleging he threw a slipper at a Sikh man which hit his turban, the ruling Trinamool Congress claimed on Sunday.
BJP dismissed the allegation and said it was only a paper cutting used in a protest.

The FIR, lodged at Kalighat police station in south Kolkata on June 13, claimed that on June 12, Majumdar, who is also the state BJP chief, had thrown a slipper in a public place at the crossing of Hazra Road and Harish Chatterjee Street, near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence.
The FIR, a copy of which was posted by the TMC on its X handle, stated that the complainant, a Sikh man, alleged that it was a deliberate and intentional act on the part of Majumdar, causing "insult to religious belief and hurt religious sentiment and also caused assault to that person".
PTI has not independently verified the FIR copy posted on TMC's X handle post.
The said FIR was lodged under Section 302 (protects individuals from actions intended to harm their religious sentiments) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) of BNS.
The ruling TMC in West Bengal claimed that Sikh community has "responded with rightful anger" against Majumdar.
"They have demanded an immediate and unconditional apology, and warned of widespread protests if their voice is ignored," the TMC said in its X handle post.
Dismissing the allegation, BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya said that it was only a paper cutting used in a protest.
"The Sikh people are being insulted by planting a concocted story," he said.
"The grooming that Majumdar and people like us have had, we have grown up learning about the sacrifices of Guru Teg Bahadur and Guru Gobind Singh," he said, denoting the respect of the BJP leaders for the Sikh community.
Majumdar and other leaders were stopped by police en route to Maheshtala on June 12, following which they held a protest in Kolkata's Kalighat area near the residence of the chief minister, who is famously known to always wear slippers.
In a post on X, Majumdar had said, "Just yesterday, the same @WBPolice were forced to wave white cloths in surrender before radical jihadists in Rabindranagar -- spineless, helpless, and humiliated. And today, suddenly, they appear to be warriors -- zealously following Chief Minister @MamataOfficial's orders with blind obedience, immersed in servitude!" "Today, as we moved toward Maheshtala to stand beside the attacked Hindus, the administration blocked our path citing Section 163. And when we later went to Kalighat, to the Chief Minister's residence, to question her silence and appeasement politics, her loyal @KolkataPolice pounced on us like personal slaves -- blindly defending their master.
"In broad daylight, our leaders and @BJP4Bengal Karyakartas were shamelessly arrested -- a naked display of administrative tyranny," Majumdar added.

CPI demands action against Adoni MLA for making ‘casteist remarks' against Dalit sarpanch
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has strongly condemned Adoni MLA P.V. Parthasarathi for allegedly making casteist and religious remarks against a Dalit sarpanch during a public meeting at Dhanapuram village of Adoni constituency in Kurnool district. CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna issued a statement on Saturday, demanding immediate action against the legislator. According to Mr. Ramakrishna, the incident took place during a recent event at Dhanapuram, where the village sarpanch, a member of the Dalit community, was deliberately denied the opportunity to come onto the stage. The CPI leader described the act as 'outrageous and disgraceful,' accusing the MLA of insulting the sarpanch based on caste. 'Even while tendering an apology, the MLA mentioned the sarpanch's religion, which is absolutely unacceptable,' Mr. Ramakrishna stated, adding that such behaviour was unbecoming of an elected representative in a democratic and civil society. Nitish keen to know about Chirag's assembly polls plan: Jamui MP
1 2 3 4 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar has questioned Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan's intention to contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections , despite already being a Union minister with, as he put it, "a bright and long political career ahead". This was revealed by Jamui MP Arun Bharti, who spoke to this newspaper on Sunday. According to Bharti, Nitish asked Chirag, "You are a Union minister, a young leader with a bright future. So, what is the need to contest the assembly elections now?" He also enquired about the constituency Chirag was considering, Bharti said. Chirag has already announced that his party is preparing to contest all 243 assembly seats in Bihar, fuelling speculation about his future political course, particularly as younger leaders such as RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, BJP's Samrat Choudhary and Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor jostle for prominence in the state's political arena. Bharti, who is also Chirag's brother-in-law, said the conversation took place in a cordial setting in Siwan ahead of PM Narendra Modi's rally on June 20. "I will go by the party's decision in this regard. I will come to seek your blessings before contesting the polls," he quoted Chirag as saying. Bharti added that Chirag reiterated his oft-quoted phrase, "Bihar is calling", while explaining his vision for the state to Nitish. Bharti claimed that the RJD was attempting to spread confusion about alleged rifts within the NDA, as they feared a united ruling alliance could reduce the opposition to fewer seats than it secured in the 2020 assembly polls. "In fact, the LJP (RV) is set to host around two lakh people at Rajgir in CM Nitish's home district Nalanda, with his blessings, at the 'Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam' on June 29," he said. Bharti also referred to a letter Chirag wrote to Nitish on June 20, raising concerns about recent amendments to road accident compensation rules in Bihar. "The amendments made recently by the state govt are proving to be complicated and troublesome for the public in practice. In the earlier system, an immediate relief amount was provided to the victim's family through the DM or SDO concerned. Now, the compensation amount will be recovered from the vehicle owner or their insurance company via the transport department. For this, one must go through the claim tribunal process, which is technical and time-consuming, making it impossible for people to get immediate relief," the letter read.
