Gray hopeful Bushiri & Triantis will be back for Hibs

BBC Newsa day ago

Head coach David Gray revealed Hibernian have held positive talks as they bid to secure the services of Rocky Bushiri and Nectar Triantis for the upcoming season. Both players were instrumental in helping the the Leith side finish third in the Scottish Premiership last term.Centre-back Bushiri has been with Hibs since January 2022, but the 25-year-old is currently out of contract and weighing up his future."Rocky's season was prolonged by going away on international duty, so he's been away doing that," Gray told the Press Association."A couple of weeks off for him, a lot of positive talks in the meantime, and he's someone who did incredibly well for Hibs last season."Naturally, there will be interest in him from elsewhere, but as I said, there have been real positive talks on that one. It's certainly something we're trying to do and working towards."Australian midfielder Triantis was one of four nominees for the Scottish Football Writers' Player of the Year award after excelling during his season-long loan from Sunderland, where he is contracted until 2027."His parent club obviously got promoted to the Premier League, so there are conversations going on there about what's next for Nectar," Gray added."Clearly, he's someone who was really, really good for us last year and someone you'd like to bring back."There are positive chats going on again, but sometimes it just takes a little bit longer and you need to make sure you're doing everything you can to try and replace him if he doesn't come back, or whatever we need to do."

Tears and triumphs - being a Scotland international's dad

Five domestic medals and representing your country. A career to be proud of, certainly. What could top it? Your son emulating your success, of the case for Derek Ferguson, the former Rangers and Scotland midfielder whose son Lewis has become something of a cult hero in 25-year-old Bologna captain and midfielder helped end the club's 51-year wait for a major trophy with victory in the Coppa Italia final against AC now link the Scotland cap with Juventus, but Ferguson senior has urged his son to enjoy his recent success for now."I cried like a big baby at the final whistle," Ferguson told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound. "I just burst out greeting."When I hugged him, I wouldn't let him go. He's probably not used to that. To see the joy in his face and his team-mates, because they're a great bunch of lads."Some players go through their whole career and they don't win anything. You've got to savour these moments."I get a big excited. That's the best night, best footballing night or day of my life. I won a few cups, a couple of league titles, but I never felt anything like that. It was just a special moment."We were allowed on to the park, which was quite surreal. The Bologna fans were still in, they were still singing. We've got some great pictures. He's very happy where he is. Extremely happy." Ferguson and fellow Scotland internationals Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay, of Serie A winners Napoli, all featured in Scotland's recent friendly double-header with Iceland and Liechtenstein, as did Motherwell 18-year-old Lennon midfielder impressed in Vaduz as the Scots won the second of the two games 4-0, following a 3-1 home loss to has a year left to run on his contract at Fir Park and the windows for Well to receive a good fee for him are running out."The style of footballer that he is, I think he's made to measure for Italy," Ferguson said."I've watched Lennon as a 16-year-old, he's added to his game already this season, so he's improving. You can just see he's going to thrive."Miller's father, Lee, a Scotland striker himself who featured for Aberdeen, Dundee United and Heart of Midlothian, hinted that his son is open to moving abroad."They're being given an opportunity, they're being given a platform to go and express themselves and they've been shown a lot of faith abroad," he said of the Scots abroad."It's only going to benefit the national team in years to come." 'No firm bids' for Lennon Miller Miller senior revealed that Lennon had "asked questions" of the foreign-based Scots when on Scotland duty."He's confident in his own ability, but he's not arrogant with it," Miller said. "It's good to see him in this environment and thriving in it."He's mature enough to go and kick on in his career and he needs to do that himself. I'm more confident that he would go over there and thrive. I think it would take his game to another level."That's the way he plays. He organises, he takes the ball under pressure. It was proud for me as a dad watching it, seeing him being himself and not changing for anyone."Miller admits he is "a bad spectator" when watching his son as he gets "nervous, excited, anxious". Where he may be watching him in the coming season is unclear."He's back in at Motherwell training tomorrow," he said."We'll just wait and see what happens, but he just ultimately wants to play football. Yes, he wants to further his career and there's been lots of chat about different clubs."In terms of decision-wise, we'll sit down and weigh up the pros and cons about different things coming, but ultimately there's not been a firm bid put in place for Lennon."

Hibs will face Dutch giants Ajax during their preparations for the new Premiership campaign - but the game will be held behind closed doors, much to the disappointment of supporters. David Gray's men are currently preparing for what should be another exciting season after they secured third place in the Premiership table last time out to claim a return to European competition. That will come in late July when Hibs face Danish side Midtjylland in the second qualifying round of the Europa League as they aim to take a step closer to landing a spot in the league phase of UEFA's secondary club cup competition. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad A historic home friendly with German side Rot-Weiss Essen is already in the schedule and Hibs will face English Premiership side Bournemouth in a behind closed door game during a training camp on the south coast. Bolton Wanderers will also visit Easter Road as Hibs mark the fine service of Darren McGregor with a testimonial for the Easter Road stalwart. However, as it stands, it will be Ajax that provide the opponents for Hibs' first friendly of the summer in a game to be held at the Eredivisie club's De Toekomst training complex on Saturday, July 5. Supporters will be unable to attend the game as it has been confirmed it will be held behind closed doors - but Ajax have now revealed they will broadcast the game live 'on their channels'. A statement on Ajax's official website read: 'With the first league match on Sunday, August 10, at home against Telstar, the new season for Ajax will officially kick off. The schedule for Ajax's pre-season preparations has also now been announced. Read here when the first training session takes place, where the training camps are held, and who the opponents are in the friendly matches. 'John Heitinga expects his players to report on Sunday, June 29, at the De Toekomst training complex. There, the Ajax players, without the internationals, who will join later, will undergo various tests before getting started on the pitch. One day later, on Monday, June 30, the first official training session will take place. On Saturday, July 5, Ajax will play its first friendly match. At De Toekomst, Scottish side Hibernian FC will be the opponent in a behind-closed-doors match, which will be broadcast live on our channels.' McCoist names the Celtic transfer that would 'hurt' Rangers

The Irish striker is out of favour at Brighton and Hove Albion after an unsuccessful loan spell at West Ham United last season. Ferguson burst onto the scene on the south coast in the 2022/23 campaign, across which he scored 10 goals in 25 games. Read more: His future is currently up in the air, and several pundits have mentioned Celtic as potential suitors. McCoist thinks Ferguson joining the Parkhead club would 'hurt' Rangers: "I'm a fan," he said [Scottish Sun]. "I want him to get fit. I really like Evan Ferguson, and I really want him to get fit and stay fit. "He can finish. Out of all the younger ones coming through, I thought Evan Ferguson was the one to watch. 'Obviously, he's got one or two injuries going on that have held him back a bit, but if he keeps himself fit, he will score goals anywhere. "The unfortunate thing for my mob [Rangers] is, he could come in and hurt us. Definitely. "It wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm a big fan." Shay Given, who spent time at Celtic as a teenager, thinks the striker would be a 'perfect' fit for the Scottish Premiership champions: "Evan just needs to find a home, if I'm being honest," he said last week. "Be it here [at Celtic] or somewhere else. He needs someone to say, 'You're my player.' "He went to West Ham for Graham Potter and you thought that was the perfect fit because Graham had him at Brighton. But then he didn't play so much at West Ham either. "Michail Antonio and someone else was injured, yet they played Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus - not Ferguson. What happens next for Evan? "I just think he needs to go, be it a loan for a season or some club buys him, and you build the team around him. I think he's a top player, I really do. "I did some Malaysian TV recently with Bobby Zamora and he goes into Brighton once a week and coaches the strikers. Bobby said Evan was the best finisher at the club. "Maybe because he burst onto the scene that everyone's been expecting so much so soon. But again, with young players, you need to have a bit of time. "I just feel he's ready now to burst onto the scene for a full season with somebody. For us, with Ireland, it would be great too. "I don't know if the finances would be to buy him, but if you said for a loan for the season, it would be perfect. But I'm not the financial power at Celtic or Newcastle, so I don't know!"
