Pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis breaks world record for 12th time, first time at home
Mondo Duplantis broke the Paul Vault world record for a whopping 12th time, leaving his home crowd jubilant at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Stockholm on Sunday, June 15. The 25-year-old soared 6.28 metres at the 1912 Olympic Stadium, improving on his previous record of 6.27 metres set in February at Clermont-Ferrand.Australia's Kurtis Marschall tried his best to challenge the Olympic champion, but could only manage a best effort of 5.90 before making three unsuccessful attempts to clear the six-metre mark. As a result, all the focus shifted to the local lad, who attempted to break his world record as promised to his fans ahead of the event and came out with flying colours. You never stop fascinating about this guy.Everyone..!He did it again!Yes. Armand MONDO Duplantis has set another world record in pole vault! Here! This is the highest jump a human being has reached fair and square with a pole!At home at Stockholm Olympic Stadium as well! pic.twitter.com/3TmWesBjRz— Nick post-ESC mourning era (@nicklaslowe) June 15, 2025advertisementAfter achieving the landmark, Duplantis was thrilled to bits as he recalled his childhood days when he jumped for the first time at the historic stadium.
'I feel full to the brim right now. I've got a lot of family here. The first time I jumped in this stadium when I was 11 years old, it was rainy and cold, and I jumped right under four metres – it was quite high for how young I was. I'm just going to enjoy this, enjoy the moment right now,' said Duplantis after breaking his world record.Furthermore, he mentioned that it was a great honour to have his name etched in the stadium and also set his sights on breaching the 6.30m mark soon.'They etch the names of world record holders here. It's going to be really special to have my name etched in the stadium. It's the most beautiful stadium, in my biased opinion. It'll be one of the greatest memories for me, I think, in my career. There's not much between me and 6.30m, technically. I'm just a perfect day away from it,' he added.advertisementDuplantis' world record jump left the crowd in absolute ecstasy as the American-born Swedish athlete ripped off his shirt to celebrate his first world record set on Swedish soil with his partner and family. Earlier this year, he also became just the second track and field athlete to win the prestigious Laureus Sportsman of the Year award after a record-breaking 2024.

Jamaican Olympic medallist Campbell switches allegiance to Turkey
Jamaican athlete and Olympic shot put bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell has switched his allegiance to Turkey, with media reports saying his compatriot and discus gold medallist Roje Stona has followed suit. The Trinidad and Tobago Guardian stated both athletes would receive a $500,000 signing bonus to make the switch, as well as monthly financial support. Campbell's agent confirmed he had changed his allegiance, while Reuters has contacted Stona's representative and the Jamaica Olympic Association for comment. Campbell finished third in the shot put at Paris 2024 behind Americans Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs, while Stona broke the Olympic record four days later in the discus to claim his country's first-ever medal in the event at the Games. They are not the first Jamaican athletes to switch nationalities, with sprinters Jak Ali Harvey and Emre Zafer Barnes also representing Turkey when they made the switch in 2015.
