Over 1.5 lakh persons from Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts are expected to take part in Yogandhra-2025 celebrations at Ramakrishna Beach of Visakhapatnam on the International Yoga Day on June 21. Administrations of both districts have given top priority for mobilization of yoga practitioners from this region as both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are scheduled to perform yoga asanas at the venue.
Vizianagaram Collector B. R. Ambedkar and Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan have been making elaborate arrangements for sending at least one lakh people from the district to Visakhapatnam. Mr. Sedhu Madhavan who is also nodal officer for the programme said that hassle-free transport facility would be provided for all the participants. He said that the persons who are interested to go one day in advance to Visakhapatnam would also be provided accommodation nearby beach areas.
The officials felt that it would not be a big issue to provide transport as Bhimili, Visakhapatnam and other areas are very close to Vizianagaram. Mr. Madhavan suggested the participants use the transport facility offered by the government instead of using personal vehicles due to security reasons.
Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar is keen to send at least 80,000 people to Visakhapatnam and make the event a grand success. He held several conferences with APSRTC, transport and other concerned departments to ensure smooth transport facility for the participants. He said that Yogandhra-2025 which was taken up one month ago caught the attention of people living in rural and tribal areas also. He said that people living in remote areas were also interested in performing yoga in Visakhapatnam on the day.

Vijay Shah advocates weekly yoga sessions in MP's Khandwa to restore social harmony

Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): Amid ongoing controversy over his recent remarks on a senior Army officer, Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah sought to recast his public image on International Yoga Day by championing yoga as a unifying force for society. Speaking at a district-level event in Khandwa, Shah urged the city's mayor to organize 'weekly yoga sessions in every ward', emphasising that such gatherings could foster 'social harmony and goodwill' in an increasingly fragmented urban landscape. 'Yoga transcends caste, religion, and society. It uplifts the body, mind, and intellect,' Shah said, drawing a symbolic parallel between Swami Vivekananda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- both 'Narendras,' as he put it -- who have, in his words, 'shown the world the path of spiritual and cultural leadership.' The remarks come at a time when Shah is facing public and judicial scrutiny for his controversial comments about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, an Indian Army officer. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had directed police to file an FIR (first information report) against him, and the Supreme Court has rebuked him for what it called 'unacceptable and insensitive' language. Later, a special investigation team was constituted to investigate the matter following orders from the Supreme Court. Yet on Saturday, Shah struck a markedly different tone. Addressing over 600 students from 20 schools gathered at a private school for the 11th International Yoga Day, he spoke of yoga as a tool to reconnect people in the digital age. 'We rarely visit each other's homes anymore. These yoga sessions will give us a reason to gather, to check in on one another, and to rebuild the bonds of community,' he said. The event, organised by the district administration, was attended by public representatives, officials, and educators. It echoed the national theme of 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' reinforcing India's vision of yoga as a bridge between personal well-being and collective consciousness.

Yoga Day: Guinness record set with over 3 lakh people participating at Visakhapatnam event

A new Guinness World Record was set on Saturday for the largest gathering for a yoga session in one place in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam. More than three lakh people participated at the Visakhapatnam Yoga Day event. According to an official statement, a remarkable 302,087 people participated in the Visakhapatnam event alone, with some citizens arriving as early as 2 AM, reflecting their enthusiasm. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a detailed review of the grand success of the International Yoga Day celebrations held across the state, with a special focus on the historic event in Visakhapatnam, the statement said. Naidu expressed his appreciation for the smooth and record-breaking execution of International Yoga Day, commending the efforts of ministers, MLAs, employees, and other officials. The mega event marked a significant step forward in promoting public health and wellness, presenting a model of inter-departmental coordination and public participation, the chief minister stated. Another Guinness World Record was also set on Saturday for the largest synchronised Surya Namaskar performed by 22,122 tribal students. A notable highlight was the use of a QR code-based participant tracking system, which ministers noted yielded highly accurate attendance data, setting a new benchmark for public events. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who performed Yoga on the 11th International Day of Yoga in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, said the whole world was going through some kind of tension with many regions facing unrest and instability, and that Yoga gives a direction of peace and brings oneness. While addressing yoga participants in Visakhapatnam, Modi said the day marks the beginning of the ancient practice for humanity, where inner peace becomes a global policy. "Unfortunately, today the whole world is going through some kind of tension. In many regions, unrest and instability are increasing. In such a situation, Yoga gives us the direction of peace. Yoga is the pause button that humanity needs to breathe, to balance, to become whole again," he said.
