Bhatti announces DA hike for power employees, compliments them for meeting high power demand this summer
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced a 1.944% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Power department employees on Saturday benefitting 71,417 employees and pensioners across the State.
The revised DA also applies to artisans along with power employees and pensioners. The DA has been increased from 14.074% to 16.018%, and the revised rate will be implemented retrospectively from January this year, he said. The enhanced DA will result in an additional monthly burden of ₹11.193 crore on power utilities.
Mr. Vikramarka said electricity has become as essential to industrial production in today's competitive world as air is to life. During the previous government's tenure, in March 2023, the peak power demand stood at 15,000 MW. After the Congress government assumed office, the demand rose to 17,162 MW by March 2025, an increase of 2,000 MW. Despite this sharp rise in demand, the government and power employees have worked like a family to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply.
Mr. Vikramarka also anticipated a steep rise in demand. According to a central government agency report, Telangana's peak power demand is projected to reach 26,299 MW by 2029-30 and 33,773 MW by 2034-35. To meet these future requirements, the State government is already planning ahead to boost power generation capacity.
He said the Congress government introduced the new Green Energy Policy targeting the production of 20,000 MW of green power by 2029-30. The power sector workforce must be ready to face future challenges and reiterated that the government and power employees together form an ideal family.

BJP looks for youth to debate in favour of Emergency for ‘mock parliament'

But that's what the saffron outfit plans to do as it gears up to organise a 'mock parliament' in nine districts to mark 50 years of the Emergency between June 25 and June 27. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Though the BJP describes it as a "black chapter" in the history of Indian democracy, the party is looking for at least 7,000 youths who can stir up a debate by speaking in favour of the Emergency, which was imposed by Gandhi for 21 months — between June 25, 1975, and March 21, 1977 — citing a breakdown of the law and order situation in the country owing to massive protests by the opposition parties alleging corruption by the Congress regime. "Since it is a mock parliament, we have decided to enrol at least 40% of the youth who can speak in favour of the topic. This would serve the purpose of striking a balance during the event," UP BJP yuva morcha's state general secretary and in charge of the campaign, Varun Goyal told TOI. The BJP has decided to register at least 18,000 youths in the 18-25 age group for the event, which will see a clash of pro and anti-Emergency views. These youths will be screened by a committee of the BJP yuva morcha, and at least 80-100 people will be shortlisted for each of the nine districts — Meerut, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Bareilly — where the event will be organised. However, Goyal said, the party is not able to get that many youths who can speak in favour of the Emergency. "We are somehow convincing a host of them to do so," he said, asserting that most of the youth want to speak against Gandhi's decision to impose the Emergency. He said that today's youth was guided by the present-day political dispensation, which sought to inculcate the feeling of nationalism and democracy. Analysts believe that encouraging youth to argue for the Emergency may well be part of a mock exercise where debating controversial topics from all sides fosters critical thinking and rhetorical skill. Nevertheless, experts said, by inviting young people to argue in favour of the Emergency, the BJP aims to ultimately discredit those arguments by confronting them head-on with counterpoints. This can also provide the BJP with harder ammunition to further criticise Congress while letting those arguments hang in public only to get them torn down with stronger rebuttals, say analysts.

Patil writes to CM on mining scams, BJP questions timing
Bengaluru/Raichur: Law minister HK Patil has written a detailed letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah expressing deep concern over the govt's failure to act on thousands of illegal mining cases that allegedly led to a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh crore between 2007 and 2011. In a seven-page letter dated June 18, Patil criticised the "administrative apathy" in handling these cases and called for stern action against the culprits and recovery of lost public wealth. He reminded Siddaramaiah of the 320-km foot march to Ballari in 2010 against illegal mining when the Congress was in opposition. Patil, who headed the cabinet sub-committee on illegal mining during Siddaramaiah's previous term (2013–18), noted in the letter that only 7.6% of more than 12,000 registered illegal mining cases have been investigated so far. "In just 2 per cent of these seven per cent, which means in only 0.2 per cent of the total number of cases, verdicts have come and cases have seen a conclusion," he further added. In Raichur, Patil on Saturday said, "I have brought it to the notice of the CM about what has to be done. The letter is written in the interest of the state and its people. The chief minister has seen the letter and has taken the matter seriously."
