Pakistani family in Delhi for minor sons' heart procedure leave India as visa deadline ends
As Pakistani nationals return to their country in the aftermath of India's order following the Pahalgam terror attack, a family visiting New Delhi for their two minor sons' life-saving procedure had to go back to Sindh without fulfilling their purpose.
The central government had issued a 'Leave India' notice to all Pakistani nationals in the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Baisaran near Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. The visas issued to all Pakistani citizens were due to expire on April 27, while the medical visas were set for a deadline of April 29.
Hailing from Sindh's Hyderabad city, Shahid Ali's two sons, Talha and Taha, aged nine and seven years respectively, needed the procedure as soon as possible as they are suffering from a congenital heart condition. According to a report from news agency PTI, Ali had accompanied his sons to the national capital of India in March after having undergone a long haul of communications with specialists, multiple tests and receiving medical visas.
"Unfortunately, after the Pahalgam incident, the situation changed, we just didn't have time for our appeals to be heard properly," Ali said. He added that even though a lot of money was spent for the procedure, that still was not the problem.
While making a plea for his family's stay, Ali had revealed that he had spent around ₹10 million on their travel.
The main issue, the "heartbreak" lies in the fact that the procedure could not be completed "despite the best efforts of the medical staff in Delhi", Ali was cited as saying by PTI.
Ali and his family are among scores of Pakistanis who have returned to their homeland in the past week. Shahid Ali has reportedly also appealed to the government of Pakistan, requesting them to arrange for the life-saving procedure to be done for his two sons in some other country.
Ayan, another Pakistani and his family, had to return from New Delhi on Monday after he failed to undergo a medical procedure and receive treatment for his one-year-old illness.
The lower half of the youngster's body was reportedly paralysed after he was hot by police in the face of a miscommunication.
Following India's orders for the exit of Pakistani nationals from the nation, citizens of the neighbouring country have been making their way out through the Attari-Wagah border.
In its punitive actions against Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, India had enforced a number of decisions, including the closure of the integrated check post at Attari, suspension of Indus Waters Treaty, reduction in the overall personnel strength of Pakistani nationals in their high commissions.

He alleged that during the pre-release event of the film Retro, which stars actor Surya, the actor made statements that hurt the sentiments of tribal communities and caused serious offence. Rathod further claimed that the actor's comparison of tribal people to Pakistani terrorists was racially insensitive. What Vijay Deverakonda had said During the pre-release event of Surya's film Retro, Vijay addressed the Pahalgam terror attack and said, 'The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don't get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours. India doesn't even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. After facing backlash on social media for his comments, the actor expressed regret. The actor clarified that his intention was to promote unity, emphasising that India is one, its people are one, and the nation must progress together. He expressed disbelief at the idea that, while advocating for national solidarity, he would deliberately target or discriminate against any community, all of whom he considers part of his larger family. He concluded, "If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide. Vijay Deverakonda."

Definitely no politics, but open to coaching India: Sourav Ganguly
Former skipper Sourav Ganguly has categorically ruled out entering politics, but says he is not averse to coaching the Indian team. Ganguly, who will turn 53 this July, was the Team Director of Delhi Capitals between 2018-19 and 2022-24. "I never really thought about it because I got into different roles," Ganguly told PTI in a free-wheeling podcast interview when asked if he would like to coach the Indian team. "I finished (competitive cricket) in 2013 and then became Board (BCCI) President," said Ganguly, noting that his biggest contribution to Indian cricket in that role was to promote women's cricket. When suggested that he could have contributed more by becoming India coach, Ganguly said: "We'll see what the future holds. I'm just 50 (53), so let's see what happens. I'm open to it. We'll see where it goes," the veteran cricket. Live Events One thing he is not getting into is politics. Asked if he would like to join a political party ahead of West Bengal assembly elections in 2026, Ganguly said with a smile: " I am not interested." What if he is promised the state chief minister's post? "I am not interested," he repeated. Asked which party he would like to join if he has a choice, Ganguly said he has never thought about that. "It's not as easy as you say. I get the opportunity (to enter politics) every year but I don't think that's my cup of tea. Asked how astute a tactician Gambhir is, Ganguly praised the southpaw's passion and his ability to express his opinions in a straight forward manner. "I haven't seen him from very close in this role, but I know he is very passionate. I haven't observed his strategies closely because I haven't worked with him as a coach. "He's very straightforward, he sees things clearly, and he's very open about what he feels, about the team, players, people, everything. From the outside, you can tell he's a very transparent person - what you see is what you get." Ganguly recollected his playing days when he found Gambhir to be very respectful towards senior. "I've played with him. He was a great guy with a lot of respect for me and the senior players. Even now, I can see he is extremely passionate about his job." Ganguly also feels that with just a year into the job, Gambhir should be allowed time to grow as a coach and learn with passage of time. "I wish him all the best. He's just a year into the job, and this will be an important (England) tour. He struggled a bit in Australia, but just like everyone else, he'll learn, he'll grow, and he'll become better." Ganguly revealed that by the end of 2026 his biopic will release and Rajkumar Rao will be the protagonist. "The shooting will start in January, the pre-production, scripting and story writing takes a lot of time, shooting does not take much time," he said.
