Allottees meet LIT officials over slow pace of work on Atal Apartments

Time of India16-05-2025

Ludhiana: With
Ludhiana Improvement Trust
proceeding with construction of flats under the Atal Apartment scheme at Karnail Singh Nagar, Pakhowal Road, allottees, along with advocate Inderpreet Singh, approached LIT officials for implementation of guidelines on the project issued by
Real Estate Regulatory Authority
(RERA).
Their major concern is the discrepancy between the payment they have made and progress of construction work. This project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Advocate Inderpreet Singh said that LIT started the project in Dec 2024, under the Atal Apartment scheme. To complete work of construction on the project site, the contractor must be paid from the instalment amount received from the allottees. However, while LIT has been collecting instalments from the allottees, work at the site has not kept pace, he explained.
He claimed that only 20% to 25% of the work had been completed at the site while 75% of the amount had been recovered. Advocate Inderpreet Singh also questioned if the project would be completed on its scheduled time in 2026 or not. A delegation of allottees visited the LIT office to talk to officials about the RERA guidelines.
LIT officials have been requested to collect the due amount from holders as per the work progress.

During the meeting, allottees told officials that they feared not getting possession of the flats despite making 100% payment. They requested officials to defer the next instalment. Officials assured the delegation that RERA guidelines will be implemented.
LIT officials said that in view of the pending compliance with the RERA order, it was agreed that the next instalment, due on May 21, would be deferred. A revised payment schedule, in accordance with RERA directives, would be issued after formal compliance.
LIT officials also agreed to verify allegations of misappropriation of compacted earth using existing level charts and assured that accountability would be fixed. They added that concerns of construction quality would be addressed by conducting randomised lab tests through three reputed laboratories.
Further commitments made by LIT include removal of encroachments on-site and issuance of tenders for the parking lot and community centre within the next 15 days. In case of delay, the engineer concerned would be required to submit written reasons and an undertaking that project deadlines would be met. The flats are expected to be delivered within the remaining 17-month timeline, by Oct 2026.

Grit sowed, IIT reaped: Rural Punjab cracks JEE-nius code

Bathinda: Two students from underprivileged rural families in Punjab have cracked one of India's most competitive entrance examinations, securing spots at top engineering colleges through a corporate-backed free coaching programme. Arjanveer Singh, the son of a labourer from Sarainaga village in Muktsar district, has secured admission to IIT Kharagpur in mining engineering. Prabhjot Kaur, who worked in Bathinda's paddy fields to fund her studies, cleared JEE Advanced and is now in counselling for a top engineering seat. Both students were supported by the HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) and Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) under the National Super 100 Programme — a CSR initiative providing 11 months of free residential coaching in Delhi for meritorious students from low-income families. Prabhjot, who scored 93% in Class XII, aspired to become a pilot but nearly abandoned her dream due to financial hardship. "Super 100 gave me hope. They paid for everything — coaching, accommodation, and food. I cleared JEE Mains and then Advanced. Now I hope to enter aviation engineering," she said. Arjanveer, who studied at Bathinda Meritorious School and scored 95%, couldn't afford the ₹1,500 fee for JEE Advanced or any formal coaching. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Wels: Hansaton sucht 250 Testhörer vor 1972 geboren Hansaton Jetzt anmelden Undo "The Super 100 programme changed my life. I'm now the first from my village to reach an IIT. It's a proud moment for my entire community," he said. The initiative has shown consistent results. In the year 2023-24 batch, Khushi from Bathinda secured civil engineering at IIT Guwahati, while Pawandeep, Sahil Kumar, and Harpreet Singh gained admission to NITs in mechanical engineering and AI (artificial intelligence). In the current 2024-25 batch, alongside Arjanveer and Prabhjot, Sukhdeep Kaur is also in the counselling process. Looking ahead, eight new students from Bathinda have been selected for the 2025-26 cohort and will begin coaching in Delhi soon. The programme reflects how targeted educational support can transform talent into opportunity — even from the humblest of origins. PE-VC investments in May plummet 68% amid global headwinds

Private equity and venture capital investments in India fell sharply in May 2025, reaching $2.4 billion across 97 deals, a 68% drop from the $7.3 billion invested across 128 transactions in May 2024, according to the IVCA-EY PE and VC roundup for the month. The number of deals also contracted, down 24% year‑on‑year and 16% from April 2025. Pure‑play PE/VC activity accounted for $1.9 billion in May, down 60% from a year ago. Real estate and infrastructure investments dropped by 82%, attracting only $498 million versus $2.7 billion in the same period last year. Startups emerged as the top segment with $1.1 billion in investments, a 21% rise compared to May 2024. Growth‑stage investments followed, totalling $710 million, although down 71% year‑on‑year. Credit and PIPE (private investment in public equity) investments also contracted sharply, falling 77% and 38%, respectively. Financial services was the top sector for the month, drawing $758 million across 21 deals, followed by real estate with $380 million. Together, the two accounted for nearly half of total PE-VC activity. Exits also remained subdued. Investors announced 18 exits worth $1 billion in May, down 60% from $2.55 billion across 24 exits a year ago. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Open‑market exits accounted for 77% of total exit value, including Carlyle's sale of a 10% stake in PNB Housing Finance for $320 million. 'PE/VC activity continues to remain subdued as global headwinds and bid‑ask mismatches hamper momentum,' said Vivek Soni, partner and national leader, Private Equity Services, EY India. Soni added that while early signs of recovery, including robust GST collections and a recent RBI rate cut, could revive deal activity later this year, ongoing global tensions and diverging valuations have kept both buyers and sellers cautious. ICRA: India's economic activity shows mixed signals in June; key sectors struggle

India's economic activity showed a mixed picture in June, after a clear slowdown in May, according to a recent report by ICRA. While electricity demand showed some improvement in June, daily average vehicle registrations continued to weaken compared to May. Demand for two-wheelers and tractors is likely to improve on the back of rural sentiments, while urban consumption could get a lift from recent income tax cuts and lower borrowing costs, though limited product availability may hold back a stronger recovery. India's overall economic activity in May had grown at 6.5% year-on-year, a drop from the 7.8% growth seen in April. The dip was largely due to a weaker performance across 10 out of the 15 key economic indicators tracked. One of the biggest drags was the core sector output, which recorded a sluggish 0.7% growth in May, its lowest in nine months. The slowdown came largely from four of the eight core industries. Electricity generation, in particular, shrank by 5.8% due to unusually high rainfall in several regions. Unemployment also edged up in May. The all-India jobless rate rose to 5.6% from 5.1% in April, according to the monthly Periodic Labour Force Survey. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo Rural areas saw the sharpest rise, likely as a result of the end of the rabi harvest season. However, ICRA said that comparing this year's labour market with last year remains difficult due to the lack of comparable data. Other important indicators also reflected a slowdown. Electricity output dropped sharply by 8.6% year-on-year in May, down from a 1.9% decline in April. Coal India Limited's production returned to negative territory, slipping 1.4% after a gain of 0.5% the month before. Mobility and transport indicators painted a similar picture. GST e-way bill generation growth dropped to 18.9% from 23.4%. Domestic air passenger traffic slowed to 4.1% from 8.5%, and diesel consumption moderated to 2.2% from 4.3%. Passenger vehicle production growth was halved to 5.4%, while non-oil exports also grew just 5.1%, down from 10.3% in April. This slowdown also weighed on cargo traffic at ports, which eased to 4.3% from 7.0%. Despite these setbacks, a few indicators offered signs of stability. Two-wheeler production turned a corner, rising 4.9% in May compared to a 4.1% decline the previous month. Petrol consumption jumped to 9.2% from 5.0%, benefiting from a favourable base. Vehicle registrations picked up slightly to 5.4% from 3.8%, while finished steel consumption improved to 7.8%, up from 6.0% in April.
