Maha dharna tomorrow to oppose Op Kagar

Hans India6 days ago

Asifabad: TheCPI (ML) New Democracy District Secretary Md Chand Pasha and CPM District Secretariat Member Kota Srinivas called for a Maha Dharna to be held at Indira Park in Hyderabad on June 17 demanding an immediate stop to Operation Kagar. The leaders demanded government to hold peace talks with the Maoists. Posters related to the dharna were unveiled at Ambedkar Square in Asifabad district centre on Sunday.
On this occasion, Pasha and Srinivas strongly opposed the killing of tribals and Maoists by Central Paramilitary Armed Forces along with the Saida Police in Dandakaranyam.
'More than 540 people have already been killed in the past year. This is in violation of the Constitution and laws. They are taking the law into their own hands by announcing a deadline of eliminating Naxalites from the country,' he said.
He questioned why the Modi government, which is ready to hold peace talks with Pakistan, is not holding peace talks with the Maoists who are continuing their struggle despite having different political views.
Both leaders called for a large number of people to participate in the Maha Dharna. Also present in the programme were CITU District President Jadhav Rajender, PDSU District General Secretary Jagajampula Tirupati, and others.

Bharat Mata portrait row triggers protests; CPM mouthpiece slams guv

Thiruvananthapuram/Kozhikode: The Bharat Mata portrait row involving governor Rajendra V Arlekar and the state govt intensified on Saturday, with protests erupting across various parts of the state and CPM's mouthpiece Deshabhimani publishing a hard-hitting editorial against Raj Bhavan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a strongly worded editorial, Deshabhimani asserted that Raj Bhavan is not a "shakha" (unit) of RSS. It accused the governor of publicly challenging the Constitution by turning Raj Bhavan into a venue to display and propagate RSS ideology. How else could this act be described, if not as a blatant violation of constitutional norms, it asked. According to the latest photos released by Raj Bhavan, the governor paid floral tributes to the portrait during the Yoga Day celebrations held there on Saturday. Raj Bhavan also dismissed reports that its security would be handed over to the central forces due to threats from opposition youth organisations. "The governor has total faith in the commitment to duty and efficiency of Kerala police in the discharge of their responsibility. ...," a statement from Raj Bhavan said. CITU took out a protest march to Raj Bhavan, accusing the governor of attempting to turn it into a centre of RSS activity and violating the Constitution. SFI raised a banner in front of the Sanskrit College in Palayam, declaring that "Raj Bhavan is not RSS's ancestral property". In Kozhikode, a protest by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) against general education minister V Sivankutty, who had walked out of an event at Raj Bhavan over the portrait, ended in a clash with SFI workers. The BJYM workers staged the protest when the minister arrived at Jubilee Hall to attend an event organised in connection with the upcoming SFI national conference in the city. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As the minister arrived, Yuva Morcha workers waved black flags. However, a group of SFI workers present at the venue tried to stop them, leading to the clash. Police intervened and took the protesters into custody. Sivankutty later alleged that the RSS faction controlling Raj Bhavan had orchestrated the demonstrations against him in Kozhikode. In protest against the police action, BJP workers staged a demonstration near the venue at Tali Temple. They burnt an effigy of Sivankutty and alleged that police personnel deployed in the area were aiding SFI workers in unleashing violence against BJYM activists. BJP district president Prakash Babu warned that the party would continue its protest if the police failed to take appropriate action against the SFI workers who, he claimed, attacked Yuva Morcha activists in custody. Meanwhile, BJP workers paid floral tributes to portraits of Bharat Mata, similar to the one placed in Raj Bhavan, at various district centres as a mark of protest against the LDF govt's stand on the issue. CPM seeks release of cadres over clashes with BJP men

1 2 Dindigul: The CPM, led by MPs in Madurai and Dindigul, on Saturday held protests in their respective districts after several party cadres were injured in a clash with BJP and Hindu Munnani members at a street-corner meeting organised by the party on Friday at Thadikombu in Dindigul. Based on complaints from both parties, police arrested people from both sides and remanded them on Saturday. The altercation occurred on Friday morning, at one of the meetings organised as part of a statewide public campaign by CPM in Thadikombu to highlight people's demands and criticise Union govt policies. An argument ensued between CPM cadres and BJP-Hindu Munnani members who were nearby over criticism regarding the Murugan devotees conference in Madurai. The verbal confrontation escalated into a scuffle. Tensions rose again near Dindigul govt medical college hospital where the injured were taken. Police finally dispersed the crowd and detained several cadres from CPM, BJP, and Hindu Munnani. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam condemned the arrest of CPM cadres in this connection. "BJP and Hindu Munnani cadres were the ones engaging in violent acts that led to our cadres being hospitalised. Hindu Munnani members are trying to create a distraction and even going as far as labelling us as extremists. People of Tamil Nadu know who really engages in hate and communal extremism for political gain," he said. The senior CPM leader demanded immediate release of the arrested cadres and action against all BJP and HM cadres responsible for the assault. In Madurai, MP Su Venkatesan condemned the Murugan devotees conference being held in Madurai saying religious hate politics of the BJP must be rejected.

Nagpur Central Jail to Tighten Security with Enhanced Criminal Profiling

Nagpur: With gang wars and criminal activities escalating inside Nagpur Central Jail, prison authorities are implementing a fresh strategy focused on enhanced criminal profiling and intelligence sharing. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now To facilitate this, prison officials have requested the Nagpur police to provide detailed criminal records of inmates at the time of their admission. This includes comprehensive background information, case histories, gang affiliations, and prior criminal behaviour. The aim is to improve inmate management and reduce the risk of violent clashes within the facility. The strategy was formalised during a high-level coordination and intelligence-sharing meeting held earlier this week. Commissioner of police Ravinder Singal, joint commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, jail superintendent Vaibhav Aage, and other senior officials attended the meeting. Aage underscored the move's importance, stating, "Timely and accurate information about inmates' backgrounds will help us allocate barracks more strategically and minimize the risk of violence." While some information exchange already exists, a senior official noted that the process must become more frequent, structured, and institutionalized for effective criminal profiling. The discussion centered on the growing challenges posed by gang rivalries in Nagpur city and surrounding rural areas, which are increasingly spilling over into the prison system. Authorities face mounting difficulties in preventing retaliatory attacks among rival gang members lodged in the central prison. The situation worsened earlier this year following the violent Hiranwar-Shaiku gang war, after which several members from both groups were incarcerated. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Prison officials struggled to segregate these inmates and house them in separate barracks to avoid further violence. Another serious concern raised during the meeting was the mixing of hardened criminals with white-collar offenders, whose crimes are typically non-violent and economic in nature. Officials warned that such groupings could lead to adverse behavioral influences and compromise prison reform objectives. Additionally, authorities flagged the growing threat posed by urban Maoists and ideologically driven inmates. Housing them alongside younger, impressionable prisoners could lead to radicalization and pose long-term security risks, an official cautioned. Persistent issues such as mobile phone usage, substance abuse, and other illicit activities within the barracks were also discussed. Prison authorities have pledged to implement stricter surveillance and enforcement measures to curb these violations. As part of the new strategy, zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been directed to ensure seamless and timely sharing of inmate profiles with prison officials. The initiative aims to bolster prison security and effectively manage the increasingly complex and volatile inmate population within Nagpur Central Jail.
