Maha dharna tomorrow to oppose Op Kagar
Asifabad: TheCPI (ML) New Democracy District Secretary Md Chand Pasha and CPM District Secretariat Member Kota Srinivas called for a Maha Dharna to be held at Indira Park in Hyderabad on June 17 demanding an immediate stop to Operation Kagar. The leaders demanded government to hold peace talks with the Maoists. Posters related to the dharna were unveiled at Ambedkar Square in Asifabad district centre on Sunday.
On this occasion, Pasha and Srinivas strongly opposed the killing of tribals and Maoists by Central Paramilitary Armed Forces along with the Saida Police in Dandakaranyam.
'More than 540 people have already been killed in the past year. This is in violation of the Constitution and laws. They are taking the law into their own hands by announcing a deadline of eliminating Naxalites from the country,' he said.
He questioned why the Modi government, which is ready to hold peace talks with Pakistan, is not holding peace talks with the Maoists who are continuing their struggle despite having different political views.
Both leaders called for a large number of people to participate in the Maha Dharna. Also present in the programme were CITU District President Jadhav Rajender, PDSU District General Secretary Jagajampula Tirupati, and others.

CPM seeks release of cadres over clashes with BJP men
1 2 Dindigul: The CPM, led by MPs in Madurai and Dindigul, on Saturday held protests in their respective districts after several party cadres were injured in a clash with BJP and Hindu Munnani members at a street-corner meeting organised by the party on Friday at Thadikombu in Dindigul. Based on complaints from both parties, police arrested people from both sides and remanded them on Saturday. The altercation occurred on Friday morning, at one of the meetings organised as part of a statewide public campaign by CPM in Thadikombu to highlight people's demands and criticise Union govt policies. An argument ensued between CPM cadres and BJP-Hindu Munnani members who were nearby over criticism regarding the Murugan devotees conference in Madurai. The verbal confrontation escalated into a scuffle. Tensions rose again near Dindigul govt medical college hospital where the injured were taken. Police finally dispersed the crowd and detained several cadres from CPM, BJP, and Hindu Munnani. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam condemned the arrest of CPM cadres in this connection. "BJP and Hindu Munnani cadres were the ones engaging in violent acts that led to our cadres being hospitalised. Hindu Munnani members are trying to create a distraction and even going as far as labelling us as extremists. People of Tamil Nadu know who really engages in hate and communal extremism for political gain," he said. The senior CPM leader demanded immediate release of the arrested cadres and action against all BJP and HM cadres responsible for the assault. In Madurai, MP Su Venkatesan condemned the Murugan devotees conference being held in Madurai saying religious hate politics of the BJP must be rejected.

Nagpur: With gang wars and criminal activities escalating inside Nagpur Central Jail, prison authorities are implementing a fresh strategy focused on enhanced criminal profiling and intelligence sharing. This includes comprehensive background information, case histories, gang affiliations, and prior criminal behaviour. The aim is to improve inmate management and reduce the risk of violent clashes within the facility. The strategy was formalised during a high-level coordination and intelligence-sharing meeting held earlier this week. Commissioner of police Ravinder Singal, joint commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, jail superintendent Vaibhav Aage, and other senior officials attended the meeting. Aage underscored the move's importance, stating, "Timely and accurate information about inmates' backgrounds will help us allocate barracks more strategically and minimize the risk of violence." While some information exchange already exists, a senior official noted that the process must become more frequent, structured, and institutionalized for effective criminal profiling. The discussion centered on the growing challenges posed by gang rivalries in Nagpur city and surrounding rural areas, which are increasingly spilling over into the prison system.
