Jamshedpur: Steel City and its surrounding areas have witnessed over half a dozen drowning accidents in the last 45 days during which as many as 10 youths died. In most of the cases, youngsters fell prey to strong currents or didn't know how to swim.
The victims had gone to dams, rivers and other water bodies to spend their leisure time with their friends when they drowned after they went into the water to have fun.
Notably, in the popular water bodies and rivers where the youths drowned, be it Dimna Lake, Sathnala Dam, or ghats along the Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers, there are no signage marking danger zones, CCTV cameras or security personnel manning the areas.
Adding to the danger is the absence of trained rescuers or lifeguards in these spots.
In a recent incident on June 7, two students of engineering courses, Sasank Jha (22) and Subham Kumar (22), met with a watery grave at the Baroda ghat on the Kharkai river. One of their friends was lucky enough to be pulled out of the river by a good Samaritan. In another incident on May 27, Suraj Mishra, in his mid-20s, drowned in Kharkai under the RIT police station area.

He had gone there with two friends to spend some time near the river.
On May 11, Gaurav Kumar (24) and Avishek Singh (23) drowned in an irrigation canal under the MGM police station area. Two other youths, Nikhil Mukhi and Suraj, also in their 20s, drowned in the Subarnarekha river at Babudih ghat on April 22. The duo had gone there with their friends to spend some time. On April 11, Ashish Kumar Singh and Amarjit Singh, both around 20 years old, drowned in the Sathnala Dam located on the outskirts of the city.
They had gone with their friends and on reaching the spot, they went inside the water to play and drowned.
"None of the spots had any signage, CCTV vigilance or police presence, which could have proved some kind of deterrent to stop the youths from carrying out risky stunts or help them if they are in trouble," said psychologist Anuradha Mitra.
She added, "There is a great attraction for water among the youngsters and they hardly consider the risk factor.
With daredevilry, they played heroes on social media and took risky shots for reels or selfies. This often leads to fatal accidents. The local administration has to wake up to such issues and find ways to prevent such deaths among youngsters. Sadly, the city does not seem to have any trained divers. During festival times, like Chhath and Durga Puja, the administration takes the help of local fishermen to form rescue teams.
Members from civil defence should be trained as divers to help people in need."
Meanwhile, DC Karan Satyarthi said, "Authorities have been directed to prepare a report on drowning-related deaths. Officials have been instructed to do the needful for installation of warning signals near river ghats and water bodies."

2 judo coaches sent to prison for sexual assault on minor trainees, including national-level judoka

Meerut/Bareilly: Courts in Meerut and Moradabad sentenced two judo coaches to prison for sexually assaulting minor trainees, including a national-level judoka, in separate incidents that took place in 2017 and 2023. Manish alias Max, 26, received a life sentence for raping a 10-year-old national judo player in Meerut, special public prosecutor Kuldeep Mohan said. The additional district judge Sangeeta, who goes by her first name, also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him. Special public prosecutor Avkash Jain told TOI, "The convict violated the girl in the guard room while her brother and fellow players were asked to practise. After the crime, the minor bled profusely, and Max, in a cynical attempt to conceal his crime, staged a drama; he told the minor's parents that she sustained a severe injury during practice." He added, "Believing the convict's theory, the minor was rushed to a medical facility and underwent treatment in three different hospitals, and after eight days, she secretly wrote her ordeal on a paper, which somehow reached her father. Upon this, an FIR was lodged at Kankar Khera police station under relevant sections of IPC and Pocso Act in June 2023." In a separate case, special Pocso judge Ghanendra Kumar sentenced Mohd Qasim Ali, 46, to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy in Moradabad. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The convict was also fined Rs 60,000 and taken into judicial custody immediately after the court order. Additional district govt counsel Manoj Gupta said, "The incident occurred on Sept 9, 2017, when the boy was in his school where the convict was appointed as judo coach. Mohd Qasim took the boy to the forest on the pretext of judo training, where he forcefully sodomised him. The boy narrated his ordeal to his family about the incident upon returning home. Subsequently, an FIR against the convict was registered at Katghar police station under the sections of sodomy and the Pocso Act. " He added, "The submitted medical examination report to the court confirmed the assault. Additionally, the statement of the survivor and the circumstantial evidence helped in nailing the accused." The chargesheet was submitted in court, and the judge expedited the trial. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Ali guilty and ordered his immediate custody.

'She-Hulk' Amy Muscle, husband found dead: The ROID rage theory in the double tragedy

Image credits: Instagram/amymuscle_ifbbpro Z unilda Hoyos Mendez, popularly known as Amy Muscle was a Colombian bodybuilding athlete who was recently found dead at her luxury residence in Spain's Costa del Sol on Thursday. The 43-year-old champion was found beaten to death with a hammer alongside her 46-year-old husband who had self-inflicted wounds. Her husband Jarrod Gelling's body was found in a bathroom. Zunilda had been missing since Saturday, after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai where she had been living for much of the time with her husband, a Colombian-American. While less is known about Gelling, he was reportedly recovering from a knee injury and had accompanied Zunilda on her trip. While an autopsy of Mendez is underway, the police believe that she died from repeated blows to the head. According to the family of the bodybuilder dubbed as 'She Hulk', Amy had been enduring abuse from her husband for the past year and was planning to divorce him. Her niece Yuleydis told a Malaga-based newspaper Sur, that her aunt was going to help Gelling following a knee operation before travelling to Portugal to compete and going back to Colombia alone after the divorce. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025: Steel Suppliers From Mexico At Lowest Prices (Take A Look) Steel Suppliers | search ads Search Now Undo "For my aunt, it was the last trip, a goodbye. She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behaviour. They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued," revealed the niece. According to a statement given by a National Police spokesman in Malaga, Amy's body showed "obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm." The suspected killer is believed to have Colombian and US nationality. Was Amy Muscle's murder a case of ROID rage ? Image credits: X/@Altosnoticiasp1 While the investigations continue, according to the statements of Amy's family and her niece, it seems the couple who had been married for four years were having some marital troubles. Amy and her husband both were bodybuilders, but she was an acclaimed bodybuilding champion who had several titles under her belt. Additionally, she was also an online fitness influencer with over 100,000 subscribers on various platforms. The Spanish police suspect Gelling who had the same nationality as the suspect to be the one who killed the fitness champion before taking his own life. The entire incident could be defined as a cause of ROID rage. ROID rage is a term that is used to describe anger and aggressive behaviour associated with anabolic steroid use. Steroid use is common in bodybuilders and weightlifters who need to bulk up their mass and while it may effectively help them it also puts them at the risk of negative psychiatric symptoms. The term "roid" in roid rage is an abbreviation of the word steroid and is used to symbolise the rage caused by steroid consumption. The steroids in this case are anabolic-androgenic steroids that help enhance athletic performance and improve lean muscles. A study published in the National Library of Medicine stated that the use of AAS leads to various symptoms such as irritability and unprovoked aggression sometimes referred to as "roid rage" Another study revealed that males who had used AAS at least once in their lives reported greater involvement in violent behaviour. The results of the study also revealed that steroid usage is linked with heightened levels of violent behaviours. Considering the way Amy was murdered with a hammer, her body having signs of abuse, her family reporting her husband's abuse, and the police suspecting her husband to be the killer, the entire incident could be studied with the angle of ROID rage. However, there's no official confirmation on this.
