I'm a sleep tech tester and the product I swear by for falling asleep fast is $26.99 in Amazon sale
As a sleep tech writer, I've spent the last 10 months searching the market for, and testing, the latest snooze-improving innovations. This has included gadgets and gizmos from smart sleep masks and sleep headbands to sleep trackers, top-rated sunrise alarm clocks and this year's best smart beds. But there's only one gadget I absolutely can't sleep without: a red light clip that attaches to my book. Dutifully obeying our sleep editor's advice around following a nighttime routine for better sleep, reading a few pages in the evening has become non-negotiable for me, and this clip light completes my bedtime routine. In current sleep sales, you can save 10% on the Szokled reading light clip at Amazon. This nudges the price from $29.99 to $26.99 — a small price to pay for a device that can help you cut out tossing and turning and fall asleep fast. And even better, you may be offered a 15% off coupon that takes the price down even further. Szokled Red Light Clip: was $29.99 now $26.99 at AmazonThe Szokled clip light has two modes: red light and warm light. The red light is ideal for pre-bedtime reading, protecting the eyes and bolstering your ability to fall asleep fast. While the warm light can create a cosy atmosphere any time of day. It comes with a timer, meaning the light will automatically turn off after you fall asleep, helping you snooze peacefully while saving energy. Amazon promises this red light clip has a 10-hour battery life and it's equipped with a USB-C port for convenient charging. Watch out for a 15% off coupon when you order! Red light exposure positively influences sleep onset, sleep duration and overall sleep efficiency by stimulating the production of melatonin, the all-important sleep-inducing hormone. Melatonin is responsible for making us feel sleepy. While bright white light suppresses this hormone, warm red light prompts the brain, specifically the pineal gland, to release it. So if you already have one of the best mattresses but you're still not getting enough sleep, a shortage of melatonin could be to blame. In fact, light is a key circadian cue and you can regulate your circadian rhythm with carefully-timed light exposure. Specifically, evening red light exposure and morning sunlight exposure helps your body get used to producing sleep-wake hormones at the right time of day so you fall asleep fast at night and wake up refreshed in the morning. What I really love about a red light clip is that it's lightweight and portable enough to take with me wherever I go. I stay away from home one night a week for work, and packing up my other sleep tech, namely my beloved Eight Sleep Pod 4 and Hatch sunrise alarm clock, wouldn't be so practical. Therefore, I rely on a red light clip to help me unwind in unfamiliar environments, and after six months of using it it's yet to fail me. I also recommend using a red light LED face mask as part of your bedtime routine if you're looking for a gadget that can help you wind down at night while taking care of your skin.

I wore wool socks to bed in the middle of a heatwave — now I swear by this summer sleep hack
Unless you're blessed with aircon, trying to sleep in a heatwave is never fun. Your covers get kicked off and you frantically flip your pillow in search of the cool side. But could wearing socks to bed be the answer? "The idea of wearing socks to bed during a hot summer's night might sound uncomfortable at first but there is actually a good physiological reason why it can help you cool down and get to sleep more easily," explains Dr. Olalekan Otulana, a GP and physician at Cassioburt Court practice in the UK. As they get warmer, blood vessels in your feet dilate and release heat, leaving you feeling cooler than before you put the socks on, says Dr. Otulana. I was skeptical — but also desperate (and sleep deprived) enough to give anything a try... Moyel Warm Wool Cashmere Socks: $14.99 at Amazon I tried out the Moyel cashmere socks to wear to bed. With 20% cashmere, 50% wool and 30% "other materials," I was impressed with how soft and comfortable they felt for such a reasonable price. If you spot these on sale come Prime Day, I'd recommend snapping them up. The night that I decided to wear socks to bed, temperatures were still lingering at around 73°F (23°C.) The thought of pulling on a pair of woolen socks was, quite frankly, repulsive. But I took the socks out of their packet and slipped them onto my feet. Immediately, I was surprised by how soft and comfortable they felt. With 20% cashmere and 50% wool, the socks I opted for were naturally temperature regulating. Plus, I found that the open weave of wool helped to release heat as opposed to trap it, which is common with socks made from synthetic fibres. But as comfortable as they were, I didn't expect to keep the socks on my feet all night. It was far too hot. I lay down on top of my covers and began reading my book. Around ten minutes later, I noticed goosebumps on my arms... was I really cooling down? To my surprise, and despite the stifling heat of my bedroom, I fell asleep quickly and stayed asleep all night. However, I wasn't the only member of our team to give wearing socks to bed a go, and others' success with them varied. Senior Staff Writer Frances Daniels put her socks into a freezer bag for around an hour before wearing them to bed. The result? "Not ultra refreshing, and I won't be wearing them to bed again. But while other synthetic socks can feel like they're trapping heat, these socks felt as though they're letting heat escape and allowing cool air in."Staff Writer Becky George kept her socks on all night, but ended up kicking off her covers as she was still too hot. Would she try it again? "Yes, but maybe more for a time when the weather gets a little bit cooler." Unlike Frances and Becky, I didn't just tolerate wearing my socks to bed. I found that my socks actively cooled me down — but how?"It might sound strange — especially when it's warm out — but putting on socks before bed could actually help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer," explains Dr. Leah Kaylor, a psychologist and sleep expert. "Core body temperature naturally drops by about 1 to 2°F in the evening as part of the circadian process that signals sleep onset," she explains. "But in order for your core to cool down, your body needs to redistribute heat — and that's where your feet come in." Putting on socks before bed could actually help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer Both our hands and feet contain arterio-venous anastomoses (AVAs), a type of blood vessel that allows a greater amount of heat to be released from the body. "By wearing socks you will gently warm the feet which encourages the blood vessels to dilate," says Dr. Otulana."This signals to your body that it is time to shift heat outwards and cool down internally, essentially helping your core temperature lower more efficiently. For many people, especially if their feet tend to get cold or they sleep in a well ventilated room, a pair of light socks can actually improve sleep comfort during summer." Opt for a thin, naturally breathable and moisture wicking fabric, like wool or cotton. The open weave of wool allows for better airflow, which will stop your feet from getting sweaty — yuck. Socks that are synthetic or too thick will cause your feet to overheat. "Wearing thin, breathable socks (think cotton, bamboo, or lightweight wool) keeps your feet just warm enough to help your body cool down in the right way," says Dr. Kaylor. Ill-fitting socks are a big no-no. Socks that are too big will slide off your feet while socks that are too small could restrict blood flow. Your socks should be soft and comfortable, so you can pull them on and off easily. Look out for any holes that your toes could get caught in. Wearing socks to bed can help lower your core body temperature, but that won't have much impact if the rest of your bedding and pyjamas aren't lightweight and breathable. Swap your winter tog duvet for a cooling comforter and wear loose and breathable pyjamas (unless you prefer sleeping naked.) When your feet become warm, the blood vessels dilate and heat is released. That means that wearing socks to bed can help lower your core temperature. So, while placing something cold on your feet can feel pleasant (such as Frances' socks from the freezer), this doesn't trigger the same release of heat as gently warming your feet. In order to get the best results from wearing socks to bed, I recommend combining it with other ways to sleep cool at night, such as using breathable bedding, sleeping in a well ventilated room and taking a warm shower before bed.

Amazon Restructures Healthcare Division and Renews Commitment To The Trillion Dollar Industry
Over the past decade, Amazon has built an entire healthcare ecosystem. Redefining industries is not a new concept to Amazon, as the company completely disrupted the world's approach to retail just two decades ago. In more recent years, the company has set out to disrupt another multi-trillion dollar industry: healthcare. But this has not always proven easy, given how cumbersome and intricate the sector remains. Nevertheless, Amazon has made some innovative efforts, including its acquisition of PillPack in 2018, its various telehealth service offerings, and its more formal movement into primary care with the acquisition of One Medical in 2023. Amazon has also made incredible strides with Amazon Pharmacy, even experimenting with drone delivery for medications. To take charge of these monumental efforts, Amazon has always been able to recruit top market talent. For its latest iteration, the company wants to make its approach to healthcare even more nimble. As first reported by CNBC last week, Neil Lindsay, senior vice president of Amazon Health Services, explained that the company has been exploring opportunities to 'overhaul' healthcare efforts for some time now, with an eye to 'move faster and continue to innovate effectively.' This also comes at a time when notable leaders in the company have announced their departures, including Dr. Sunita Mishra, Amazon's chief medical officer, Dr. Vin Gupta, who served as chief medical officer for Amazon Pharmacy, and Aaron Martin, vice president of healthcare at the company. Regardless of these changes, Lindsay remains optimistic, commenting that talent is pervasive throughout Amazon and the restructuring will enable a more nimble approach to the behemoth that is healthcare. At the end of the day, the numbers have to support the story, and most large technology companies that have entered the healthcare market realize that it is a difficult opportunity to pursue. After all, healthcare, in general, faces some of the thinnest margins when compared to other sectors. Furthermore, the sector is incredibly vulnerable to numerous externalities, including supply chain constraints, regulatory changes and a constantly evolving workforce. This is further compounded with significant challenges that primary care specifically faces, including an ever-pervasive lack of access to care. Notably, other large hyper-scalers have tried similar efforts on this front. For example, CVS Health has leveraged its retail footprint and community brand to enter the realm of clinical delivery with MinuteClinic. Walgreens tried something similar with its VillageMD clinic model, but has reportedly faced significant financial challenges. Even retail behemoth Walmart put forth a valiant effort in this space, but ultimately decided to terminate it last year, citing that 'the challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs create a lack of profitability that make the care business unsustainable.' Nonetheless, Amazon's strongest feature has always been its ability to disrupt and stay lean. Thus, although more changes may undoubtedly emerge in the coming years, consumers can likely expect that the company will continue to innovate relentlessly.
