Double date with your mate as Tinder launch feature to help Gen Z find love
Digital matchmaking app Tinder launches new 'double date' feature to encourage Gen Z to take their matches offline and into the real world in the hope of finding 'The One'
In the current day and age of dating apps, it's becoming harder and harder to have a pleasant and positive experience through the medium. However, Tinder is trying to change that, one app feature at a time.
Through its new update which launched on June 17, Tinder is attempting to transform the dating scene with its newest 'Double Date' feature, designed to help users and their friends dodge undesirable dates — and hopefully swipe their way into desirable ones.
The fresh feature allows users to team up with a mate to match with other duos, providing a fun and relaxed way to navigate dating together.
Whether you're keen to meet new faces or simply enjoy the journey together with some friends, it's a low-stress, group-centric approach to exploring the dating scene side-by-side — something that Gen-Z and millennials are keener than ever to experiment with.
Building on the success of features like 'Tinder Matchmaker' and 'Share My Date' - which allowed users to bring friends and family into their dating journey - 'Double Date' transforms the swiping experience into a shared, light-hearted adventure that can relished (or ridiculed) alongside a friend. It's designed to make meeting new people more enjoyable, more social, and far less pressure-filled (gasp, are we still talking about dating apps?)
With Gen-Z and millennials increasingly dependent on friends to guide them in an evermore socially awkward environment, Tinder's 'Double Date' function may serve as a welcome relief to alleviate those first-date jitters.
How does it work?
With the 'Double Date' function, a user can click the icon in the top right corner of the main card stack screen. They can then choose up to three friends to pair up with.
Next, all you need to do is scroll through your main card stack and like the Double Date pairs that catch your eye. Only one like per pair is required for a match to be made, at which point a group chat is automatically set up.
In the group chat, you can converse as a foursome — and if the chemistry is right — you can arrange to go on a date.
The best part?
With this new 'Double Date' feature, the post-date recap doesn't have to wait — it can start as soon as the date ends. Tinder's data reveals that during the testing phase of the 'Double Date' feature, women were three times more likely to 'Like' a pair than individual profiles.
Furthermore, match rates have significantly increased for those utilising this feature. The data also showed that individual users sent 35% more messages in 'Double Date' conversations compared to standard one-on-one chats. Because let's be honest, everything is 10 times more fun with a friend.
The 'Double Date' feature is now available to Tinder users in the US and selected markets, with a global rollout scheduled for July. Perhaps it's time to team up with a friend and prepare your joint swiping strategy?

Work-shy Gen Z are using a sneaky workplace trick to fool older bosses and keep their jobs amid mass layoffs
A new workplace trend is spreading among Gen Z employees revealing how desperate they are to avoid the chop amid mass layoffs. 'Task masking', as it is known on social media, is the act of looking extremely busy in the office even if there is relatively little to do. Actions such as carrying a laptop across the office, having printed out sheets of paper on your desk, hunching over your screen and typing furiously are all part of the façade. The tricks are promoted by TikTok and Instagram influencers to nervous Gen Z workers that are becoming increasingly alarmed about the reality of losing their jobs. Major companies including Microsoft and Amazon have revealed plans for cutbacks as AI continues to disrupt the workforce. Young workers are particularly vulnerable to the sweeping cuts as they have yet to gain the experience and skills that may help them to be seen as more integral to a business. It also comes as more white collar workers are being ordered back to the office after years of homeworking following the pandemic. Some Gen Z employees have never known their roles outside of their bedrooms and seek guidance on social media about how to present themselves in the work environment. Gen Z employees are finding new ways to appear busy in the office Influencer Gabriella Judge makes content about 'task masking' for her 500,000 followers because she sees the disillusionment her generation is experiencing when it comes to work. 'Baby Boomers gained the most out of corporate America. It was a meritocracy,' Judge told the Financial Times. 'We weren't raised with that same optimism... Our parents, Gen X, were just demolished by things. 'They had 9/11, the 2008 financial crisis . . . Gen Z folks are like, well, I know that this work stuff won't take care of me.' Experts argue that the creation and consumption of this contents speaks to the broader insecurity of the job market. 'Gen Zers are talking among themselves about how to ensure they are A, being as productive as possible, and B, seeming as productive as possible, so that they're not laid off or replaced by AI,' Amanda Edelman, chief operating officer of Edelman's Gen Z Lab told the FT. Edelman's Gen Z Lab, which conducts research to help businesses understand those aged 13 to 28, has found that 37 percent of Gen Z workers are worried about losing their job, more than any other generation. Around 60 percent of Gen Z are also not confident they will land a good job this year, according to the research. Gen Z try to look busy at work 'It would be trite to say that young people are lazy' David Wreford, partner at Mercer consulting group told the FT. 'We need to think about the extent to which there has been a breakdown in the contract between young people today and the promise of work.' Jobs jettisoned Some of America's biggest companies have announced sweeping job cuts this year. In May, Walmart — America's largest employer — announced it was cutting 1,500 jobs from its tech operations and e-commerce teams. Procter & Gamble, the owner of Tide detergent and Gillette shaving products, said it would eliminate 7,000 positions. Job losses have been even more pronounced in the tech sector, with the implementation of AI marking a major shift for American workers. Microsoft — one of the leading firms investing in AI — is expected to lay off thousands of employees next month as it shifts resources toward deeper investments. Intel, the flagging tech giant, is also letting go of 10 to 15 percent of its manufacturing staff. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently said the quiet part out loud: the technology will uproot thousands of Americans from their jobs. 'As we roll out more Generative AI and agents, it should change the way our work is done,' he wrote in a memo to employees. 'It's hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce.'

Every Gmail account user should check one setting immediately
Every Gmail account user should check one setting immediately Google is warning all users to make some important security changes to their Gmail, Google and YouTube accounts Gmail users have been urged to make a simple change to protect themselves from being targeted by hackers (Image: SOPA Images, SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images ) Online safety should be at the top of everyone's priority list, with Gmail and Google users being strongly advised to change one of their security settings quickly. It comes after an FBI report revealed the true scale of cruel online scams. The FBI claimed cybercriminals siphoned off more than £12billion in 2024 alone, with such attacks seeing a major 33% spike. Despite widespread knowledge about the dangers of cybercrime, shockingly weak passwords remain commonplace, leaving countless people vulnerable to these sophisticated hackers. Astonishingly simple combinations like "password", "qwerty", and "123456" are still frequently used. Given the astronomical losses to scammers, Google is urging its users to put some upgrades on their account security. The tech giant recommends moving past traditional password protection in favour of cutting-edge alternatives such as Sign in with Google and passkeys. For those not aware, these updates login methods allow you to have fewer passwords and let you access accounts using fingerprint and facial recognition, taking advantage of biometric recognition for access. These security measures aren't new and have been available for some time, but it appears that uptake varies depending on age ranges. Data suggests that more than 60% of Gen Xers and Baby Boomers carry on using conventional passwords as their main authentication tool, reports the Mirror. Switching your password can protect you from losing everything to cybercriminals and hackers (Image: Moyo Studio via Getty Images ) Article continues below Notably, the younger Gen Z demographic is shunning old-fashioned security measures such as wordy passwords, instead favouring more sophisticated authentication tools. Google's Evan Kotsovinos said: "We want to move beyond passwords altogether, while keeping sign-ins as easy as possible, so we strongly encourage using modern methods like Sign in with Google and passkeys, which can be stored in and synced across your devices with Google Password Manager. "Passkeys are phishing-resistant and can log you in simply with the method you use to unlock your device (like your fingerprint or face ID) - no password required. And when you pair the ease and safety of passkeys with your Google Account, you can then use Sign in with Google to log in to your favourite websites and apps - limiting the number of accounts you have to maintain. Gen Z's embrace of these tools actually represents a big step forward for collective security." The FBI claimed cybercriminals siphoned off more than £12billion in 2024 alone, with such attacks seeing a major 33% spike (Image: Getty ) For those who find this too technical, there's an alternative - enable 2-Step Verification (2SV). This feature adds an extra layer of security by requiring a separate code for login, which is typically sent to another device that the account holder possesses. Kotsovinos added: "For people who still prefer passwords, we have tools like 2-Step Verification (2SV), the Google Authenticator App and Google Password Manager - that provide a second line of defence so that a password alone can't empower a bad actor." Article continues below Cyber threats are here to stay. If you don't want to become the next victim, then it's a good idea to follow this advice and switch away from passwords or add an extra layer of security.
