Kavitha puts Telangana Jagruthi on par with BRS
Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has on Friday put Telangana Jagruthi on par with Bharat Rashtra Samithi by saying that both are two eyes of her father and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Addressing a press conference after inaugurating the Jagruthi office at Banjara Hills here on Saturday, Kavitha, who is also president of Jagruthi, said that Jagruthi would have separate minority cells for Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, which would champion the cause of minority rights.
"We will form an SC and ST section and crusade for their welfare. If KCR has one eye on BRS the other eye is Jagruthi. We will not be silent if something happens to him," said Kavitha, who floated Jagruthi 18 years ago to take up cultural and other activities in support of separate Telangana movement.
The Jagruthi president announced a protest programme at Indira Park on June 4 against notice issued to BRS supremo KCR by PC Ghose Commission.
"Why were they issued in the first place? For constructing Kaleshwaram project? For providing water to 20 lakh acres through Kaleshwaram every year? For providing Rythu Beema and Bandhu schemes for farmers? I wonder if it is the Kaleshwaram Commission or a Congress Commission," fumed Kavitha, stating that issuing notices to the 'Father of Telangana' was issuing notices to the entire state.
The BRS leader said that it was the misfortune of Telangana that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy did not even say 'Jai Telangana'.
"I demand that Reddy at least say 'Jai Telangana' and pay tribute to the martyrs. Those who do not say Jai Telangana and do not pay tribute to the martyrs do not deserve to run the state affairs', she said.
Meanwhile, Kavitha demanded changing the name of government scheme Rajiv Yuva Vikasam and naming it after Srikantha Chary, Yadi Reddy or former prime minister PV Narsimha Rao. "What does Rajiv Gandhi have to do with Telangana," she asked. Srikantha Chary and Yadi Reddy died during the Telangana agitation.
The MLC alleged that Revanth Reddy remained a silent spectator when Telangana waters were being diverted to Andhra Pradesh. Its Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wants to construct the Banakacherla project and divert water, but the Telangana CM is not even reacting.
"Why is the CM so weak? Why is the CM working for the interests of neighbouring states? When KCR was the CM, he proposed river interlinking from Topakulagudem, but at that time the central government did not agree and said that it would be taken up from Ichchampally.
There is an attempt to transfer 200 TMC of Godavari water from Polavaram. Godavari water will be permanently taken away from Telangana," she cautioned, demanding Revanth Reddy to clarify on the issue on June 2. She further said that the CM should demand the Centre to convene an apex council meeting by an early date. The Jagruti president recalled that her organisation has been fighting for the BC Bill for the last year and a half. Recently, when Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he spoke about projects but did not talk about the BC Bill, she said. "I am warning the BJP that if they try to put the BC Bill in the cold storage, we will fight in a way that will hurt them. We will organise a rail roko. Jagruthi will fight until 42 per cent reservation is provided to BCs in institutions. We will fight until we achieve Rs 2,500 for women and a scooty for girls, she said Kavitha said that since its launch almost 18 years back, Jagruthi has raised a strong voice on issues pertaining to the people of Telangana. KCR and party idealogue Jayashankar called for working on cultural issues, inspired by which Jagruthi was floated,

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy on Friday accused the Congress government of bringing up various issues to divert public attention and suppress the rise of the BJP in the state. He also alleged that both the Congress and the BRS are working in coordination to stop the BJP's growth in Telangana. Kishan Reddy was addressing a key workshop at the BJP Telangana State Office, aimed at strategising for the upcoming local body elections. Senior party leaders, including National General Secretary Sunil Bansal, Telangana in-charge Abhay Patil, MPs Etala Rajender, D.K. Aruna, Godem Nagesh, and several MLAs and district leaders, participated in the session. Referring to the recent revelations in the phone tapping case, Kishan Reddy said, "The situation is alarming. Phones of BJP staff, leaders, and even the social media team were tapped under the BRS regime. Judges, businessmen, film stars, and elected representatives were also targeted. Instead of investigating seriously, both Congress and BRS are playing political games around it." He criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for changing his stand after assuming office. "When in the opposition, he demanded a CBI probe. Now, he remains silent," Reddy said. Kishan Reddy called on BJP workers to take the message to the people about the corruption during BRS rule and the Congress government's failure to implement its six guarantees and over 400 election promises. 'A BJP government is essential to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Telangana. Only under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership can we save this state and bring development,' he said. Blaming both the BRS and Congress for the financial crisis in the state, Reddy stated that Telangana has plunged into debt due to the misgovernance of the past decade. "Today, there isn't even enough money to pay salaries. Welfare schemes are being delayed, and development programmes are at a standstill," he added. The Union Minister emphasised the need to build a strong BJP from the grassroots, especially by bringing in youth and leaders from marginalised and rural backgrounds. He directed the party to conduct mandal- and district-level workshops and training programmes to prepare the cadre for future political movements. Reddy also highlighted the Centre's contribution to Telangana's development, including ongoing infrastructure projects like the development of 42 railway stations, national highways, rural development programmes, and welfare schemes such as free 5 kg rice for the poor and financial support to panchayats. "Without central assistance, no sector—be it railways, education, or health—can see progress in Telangana," he asserted. He also spoke about upcoming awareness campaigns and political events, including the observance of June 25 as Anti-Emergency Day (Dark Day) to remind the public of Congress's past actions against democracy and constitutional values. 'Today's Congress leaders act like they are the protectors of the Constitution, but history shows they have subverted it time and again,' he said, calling on the BJP cadre to educate the public about these issues. This led to riots in 1993, in which 19 people from both communities were killed. In 1996, Dr Chittaranjan was shot dead in his house. The probe was handed over to the CBI, which could not arrive at any conclusion over the killers. Despite the murder, neither Bhatkal nor Uttara Kannada had witnessed any major communal incident till recent times. The BJP tried to paint with communal colours the death of one Paresh Mesta near Honnavar in 2017, and held massive protests across Karnataka. But the CBI, which probed the death, concluded it was an accidental death, not murder. However, the saffron outfit's electoral gains were massive. It has won all Lok Sabha elections from 1996 till now, except once, from the Uttara Kannada seat (two assembly segments here belong to Belagavi district). However, the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts were different. The worst years of communal violence in these districts were 1998, 2003 and 2006. In each of these years, at least eight people were hacked to death, many of them in a cycle of retaliations. In 2022, three murders took place in a span of only eight days; in 2025, three deaths happened within 30 days. Why these killings and riots? The reasons are many: vigilantism, moral policing, hate speeches, desecration of religious places, targeting of interfaith relationships, use of religion as a political tool, public and police complicity in terms of informing, inept handling of the incidents by the government of the day, selective law enforcement, withdrawal of cases against the accused, and fake news on social media. Even minor incidents become huge communal flashpoints these days, thanks to viral posts on social media. The incidents are so politicised that it's difficult to control the situation once the fire is lit. Political leaders from both sides of the divide often fan the flames. Has this region reached a point of no return? Maybe not, if the government spares no effort taking tough steps to eradicate communal forces. It also needs to stay neutral, bring community leaders for regular peace meetings, cleanse the police of bias and nexus, and above all, unhesitatingly take action against anyone, including political leaders, involved in stoking communal tensions. Govt probes surge in foreign-linked Fb accounts ahead of polls
1 2 Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the govt has initiated a forensic audit of about 5,000 Facebook accounts activated in the last one month, raising concerns over a surge in foreign-linked accounts, which he alleges are being used to destabilize Assam and influence its political discourse. Sarma said a detailed forensic study was conducted on 2,092 accounts, revealing that a significant number of these were primarily operated from Islamic nations. Sarma said among the audited Facebook profiles, 618 were from Bangladesh, 236 from Pakistan, 88 from Kuwait, 54 from France, 35 from Afghanistan, 16 from Indonesia, 10 from Jordan, eight from Iraq, six each from Brazil and Egypt, four each from Germany and Albania, three from Italy, two each from Australia and Palestine and one each from Canada, Colombia and Libya. Sarma said these accounts share Islamic fundamentalist content, including pro-Palestine material, Iran-related posts, and content about Bangladesh's chief advisor Prof Md Yunus. He added that the central govt has been notified about this situation, describing it as a matter of "national security". He said Assam and the northeast have consistently been targets of international fundamentalism, with separating the 'chicken neck' to integrate it with Bangladesh remaining an 'unfinished agenda' for extremists. "We are in a very critical situation and the entire matter is being looked into from the national security angle," Sarma said.
