Kanpur Metro employee drowns while bathing in Saryu River in UP's Ballia

A 28-year-old man working with the Kanpur Metro drowned while bathing in the Saryu river at the Shiv Mandir Ghat in Ubhaon here, the police said on Friday.
Ranjeet, a local of Guloura Mathia village, was on leave and had returned home a few days ago.
On Thursday evening, he went to bathe in the river near the local Shiva temple.
When he did not emerge from the water for a long time, the concerned locals nearby alerted the police.
Ubhaon Station House Officer Rajendra Prasad Singh said the police reached the spot and, with the help of locals, pulled Ranjeet out of the river.
Ranjeet was taken to the Community Health Centre in Siyar, where doctors declared him dead.
His body has been sent for post-mortem, the SHO added.

Jammu, June 20 (UNI) Police on Friday arrested three drug peddlers with a contraband of heroin here from General Business Stand area. The police spokesman said that three notorious drug peddlers were arrested from the Bus Stand area with contraband of 11 grams of heroin and a car in which they were travelling, was also seized. Acting on specific input, a police team from Police Station Bus Stand led by SHO Inspector Vikas Dogra apprehended the accused persons identified as Chirag Atri, Vinod Kalotra and Amit Kalotra, all residents of Chak Jarala, Bishnah, Jammu. One of the accused, Chirag Atri, police said is a hardcore,notorious drug peddler who was previously detained under the PIT NDPS Act by Jammu Police in 2024 and was released recently after completion of the detention period. Despite this, he continued his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, adding he said that two of his properties were also attached by Police Station Bishnah in 2024 as part of legal action under the NDPS Act. However, police have registered a case under relevant sections and started the investigations. BAREILLY: In the honour killing case of a teenage girl in Sambhal, pharmacist Madhur Arya from Bahjoi's Community Health Centre has been suspended while the services of contract worker Yash Sharma at the post-mortem house have been terminated. The duo were involved in changing the autopsy report. The case was reported from Haidpur village in the Rajpura police station area of Gunnor tehsil, Sambhal district. On May 27, a girl, aged 17, was found hanging in her home. Investigation revealed that her father, Chandrakesh, and brother, Dharmendra, strangled her to death and then hung her body. They attempted to frame four people, including the girl's lover, Pramod Kumar. SP Krishan Kumar Bishnoi disclosed that it was a case of honour killing on June 9. The police arrested the girl's father, brother, Jai Prakash, and pharmacist Madhur Arya and sent them to jail. The pharmacist was accused of tampering with the post-mortem report for Rs 50,000. CMO Dr Tarun Pathak said, 'Both employees have been jailed under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Pharmacist Madhur Arya from CHC Bahjoi has been suspended, and the contract worker Yash Sharma's services at the post-mortem house have been terminated. A departmental investigation has been ordered against the pharmacist, and further action will be taken after the investigation report is received.'
