Five things to watch for in Week 6 of the 2025 UFL season
The St. Louis Battlehawks have work to do.
Head coach Anthony Becht said at the start of the year that he believed the Battlehawks built a roster that could win the 2025 UFL Championship Game, which takes place on June 14 in front of his team's hometown fans in St. Louis.

If the playoffs started today, however, the Battlehawks would miss out and be watching from home.
"We've got a huge game next week against a divisional opponent," Becht said. "And I'm just asking everyone to bring a friend."
The contest Becht is referring to is the opening game of Week 6, with the Battlehawks hosting the Arlington Renegades in an all-important XFL Conference tilt on Friday night (8 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app). It's a crucial matchup, with both teams sitting at 3-2 on the season and fighting for the second playoff spot in the division.
The Renegades won the previous head-to-head matchup earlier this year, a 30-15 victory in Arlington in Week 4.
Elsewhere, the Memphis Showboats (1-4) travel to face the Houston Roughnecks (2-3) on Saturday (noon ET).
Closing out the week, the Michigan Panthers (3-2) host the DC Defenders (4-1) at Ford Field on Sunday (noon ET), followed by the San Antonio Brahmas (1-4) traveling to face the Birmingham Stallions (3-2) at Protective Stadium (4 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app).
Here's a closer look at five things to watch for in Week 6: 1. Renegades CB Ajene Harris leads league in interceptions
One of the main reasons for Arlington's continued success on defense this season is Harris' sharp play.
The USC product and Los Angeles native just earned UFL Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, finishing with two picks and six combined tackles in a late-game loss to the Defenders last week.
Through five weeks, Harris leads the league in interceptions (three), pass breakups (11) and forced fumbles (two).
"He's continually coming up with big plays," head coach Bob Stoops said about Harris. "And he plays multiple positions … so he understands all the positions. He's really a bright player, on top of being a skilled player." 2. RB Wes Hills returns to UFL with Showboats
One of the top runners in spring football, Memphis brought Hills back to shore up the team's depth at running back.
Williams finished with 277 rushing yards and five touchdowns in eight games for the Panthers in 2024. The year prior, Hills led the legacy USFL in rushing with 679 yards and 10 touchdowns while playing for current Memphis offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone as a part of the now defunct New Orleans Breakers organization.
The Showboats also activated receiver Daewood Davis from IR. An All-UFL selection in 2024 who finished with 41 receptions for 446 receiving yards and five touchdowns, Davis signed with the NFL's Carolina Panthers after the 2024 UFL season but was released due to injury.
The Renegades also executed a trade this week, sending linebacker Storey Jackson to the Brahmas for defensive end Ikenna Enechukwu.
Kellen Mond could be holding a clipboard for the Brahmas when they travel to Birmingham this weekend.
An ineffective Mond was replaced in the second half by Jarrett Guarantano in San Antonio's home-opening loss to the Roughnecks in Week 5. However, Brahmas head coach Payton Pardee indicated that the quarterback switch could be permanent, as he declined to name a starter for this weekend's game.
"I believe in all three quarterbacks we have," Pardee said. "I think they're all very talented. They all have unique skill sets, so I feel very confident in the players that we have in that room, but that's going to be something that we evaluate this week in practice."
In five starts, Mond has completed 56.8% of his passes for 597 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Guarantano finished 6-of-15 for 29 yards in his first action of the season last week. 4. Roughnecks host Showboats in rematch
Houston defeated Memphis by one point, 18-17, on the road in Week 3 — the team's first victory of the season at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. This week, the Showboats get a shot at revenge when they travel to face the Roughnecks in Houston.
Starting for the first time this season, Memphis QB Dresser Winn earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 5, completing 17 of his 29 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in a 24-20 overtime win over Birmingham.
Winn gets an opportunity to see if he can play efficient football for a second straight week against a Houston defense holding opponents to 14.3 points per game over the past three weeks, with the Roughnecks winning two of those.
On the other side, Houston QB Jalan McClendon continues to play solid football. Since taking over as the team's starter, he has completed 70% of his passes for 407 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions. McClendon has also rushed for 34 yards and a score. 5. Panthers WR Samson Nacua suspended one game for altercation with fan
The UFL announced this week that it handed down a one-game suspension without pay to Nacua after a video emerged showing him striking a Battlehawks fan in an altercation after the Panthers' Week 5 road game in St. Louis.
Nacua, who agreed to participate in community service, will miss this weekend's away game against the Defenders.
Nacua is the older brother of Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua. His other brother, Kai Nacua, plays in the UFL as a safety for Michigan.

Josh Harris buys Jayden Daniels trading card for $500K
Commanders owner Josh Harris hit the jackpot when his team drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in 2024 and a couple of trading card dealers did the same with a Daniels card this weekend. Josh Roth and Jacob Ramos purchased a one-of-one 2024 Daniels Panini Prizm card for somewhere in the $300,000 range and brought it to the Fanatics Fest in New York City. Daniels and Harris were also at the event and Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin asked who had the rarest Daniels card during an appearance with the two men. Roth and Ramos answered that call and Rubin then negotiated a $500,000 sale to Rubin. 'It was such an experience to be on stage with just everyone. It really happened so fast. Moments like that are timeless,' Ramos said, via Larry Holder of Harris plans to display the card at Northwest Stadium during a 2025 season that he, Daniels and the Commanders hope is even more successful than his standout rookie year.

What are realistic expectations for Chargers rookies in 2025?
The Chargers took a balanced approach with their draft class, adding depth at several positions on both sides of the ball, including a few skill players and defensive contributors. Here are the expectations of the team's rookies heading into the 2025 season. RB Omarion Hampton Hampton is expected to provide a significant boost in the running game alongside veteran Najee Harris. Some project Hampton to push for over 1,000 rushing yards and even lead all rookies in touchdowns from scrimmage. With his skillset as a physical and downhill runner, coupled with his receiving ability, and an improved offensive line, the former North Carolina product should get the most out of his volume of touches. It wouldn't be surprising to see Hampton finish top 3 in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting at the end of the season. WR Tre Harris Harris should have a sizable role from Day 1. Slated to start on the outside, Harris brings size, physicality and a vertical threat to the receiver room. He should be able to win contested catches and make impressive plays in traffic and be a valuable target in the red zone. I expect him to establish himself as Justin Herbert's go-to down-the-field target, and I'm projecting him to finish with 40-50 catches for 550-650 yards and four to six touchdowns. DL Jamaree Caldwell The Chargers need production from the nose tackle position after the loss of Poona Ford, which Caldwell should fill. The former Oregon product is expected to contribute on early downs against the run with his ability to fill gaps and occupy blockers. Caldwell does possess good quickness and movement skills, which could make him more than just a run defender. EDGE Kyle Kennard Kennard will likely start his career as a third-down or situational pass rusher, as well as serving as a special-teams player. The Chargers need more juice in that department and with his explosiveness, ability to win with speed around the edge and high motor, they should get good production from him in that department. WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith There's a lot to be excited about with Lambert-Smith, as the Chargers finally added a wide receiver with game-breaking speed. The former Auburn product presents another outside receiver for the offense alongside Mike Williams, Quentin Johnston and Harris. Despite his speed, Lambert-Smith is unlikely to see the field that much, being low on the depth chart. I could see him getting 5-10 snaps per game. TE Oronde Gadsden The fifth-round pick out of Syracuse has been one of the summer standouts up to this point, flashing his upside in the passing game. Gadsden has Tyler Conklin and Will Dissly ahead of him on the depth chart, but it will be difficult to keep him off the field. He provides a vertical threat and a valuable target down the seam. I see him creating mismatches and contributing on offense in his first year. OL Branson Taylor Taylor should make the 53-man roster, but only as a developmental piece. He will likely be a backup option at guard with tackle flexibility. S R.J. Mickens Mickens will be competing for one of the final safety spots with Tony Jefferson. It wouldn't be surprising if both players are kept. Mickens is unlikely to play much on the defensive side of the ball. But his traits and experience on punt coverage in college will make him a solid special-teams player. CB Trikweze Bridges Bridges has a lot of competition for a spot in the defensive back room. Injuries would likely have to occur in camp or preseason for him to make the cut. The likely scenario is Bridges ends up on the practice squad.

Phil Foden had a goal and an assist in the game, though everything didn't go perfectly to plan as Rico Lewis was sent off in the 88th minute for a tackle on Samuel Obeng. Guardiola called the referee's decision to show a straight red card, 'unnecessary.' MORE — How much prize money will each club get at Club World Cup? 'His leg was little bit high, but he was on the grass,' Guardiola said after the game. 'Touches the ball with the speed that they go through, your leg has to be a little bit high and the other player down. It was not intentional and it was a red card versus Crystal Palace after the referee came and said it wasn't a red card. Rico never had intention to hurt anyone. A little bit unnecessary, the red card. The referee is the boss and had other intentions, VAR checked it and we have to accept the decision.' Manchester City team news, focus OUT: Mateo Kovacic (foot) Al Ain team news, focus Al Ain found themselves 4-0 down to Juventus at halftime and ended up losing their opening game 5-0 as Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao each scored twice, along with Kenan Yildiz. 33-year-old Togolese striker Kodjo Laba, who led Al Ain this season with 20 goals in 21 games, had most of his side's best chances to score but two of his three shots were saved rather well. Manchester City vs Al Ain prediction In a sense, the Club World Cup is perfectly timed for Man City, who already had a handful of new players that need to get acclimated before next season, so the intensity (and quality) from them remains incredibly high. That spells bad news for Al Ain, and maybe everyone else in the competition. Manchester City 4-0 Al Ain.
