Manchester City 6-0 Al Ain: New faces shine as City seal passage
Ilkay Gundogan scored twice as Manchester City sealed passage to the knockout rounds of the Club World Cup with a 6-0 demolition of UAE side Al Ain on Sunday.
City joined Juventus on six points through two games and will play the Old Lady on Thursday for the top spot in Group G.

Claudio Echeverri scored a wonderful free kick as City built a 3-0 halftime lead through goals by Gundogan and Erling Haaland. New face Rayan Cherki scored after the break, as did Gundogan and Oscar Bobb.
Haaland also recorded an assist, as did new captain Bernardo Silva and Rodri.
City kept nearly 75 percent of the ball producing almost four expected goals and out-attempting Al Ain 21-5.

Al Ain found themselves 4-0 down to Juventus at halftime and ended up losing their opening game 5-0 as Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao each scored twice, along with Kenan Yildiz. 33-year-old Togolese striker Kodjo Laba, who led Al Ain this season with 20 goals in 21 games, had most of his side's best chances to score but two of his three shots were saved rather well.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso said he believes Antonio Rüdiger's claims that his defender was subjected to racist abuse during the game against Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday, adding that a FIFA investigation is underway. The game finished moments later, with Real recording its first win at the Alonso said that Rüdiger had told him that Cabral had racially abused him. 'We support Toni and we'll see what happens. The FIFA protocol has been activated and we support him,' Alonso said. 'It's unacceptable and we believe what he said. They're investigating it now.' Following the game, Cabral denied making a racist remark to Rüdiger. 'It was a scrap, we collided, he gets a kick, he said that I hit him with my hand and then there was an argument and the referee made the sign of racism,' the 39-year-old told reporters. 'There wasn't anything there. 'It was only a word we say all the time in Argentina. We say 'c***n de m****a' (a profanity used to call someone a coward) all the time. I told him the same thing and it ended there. All the FIFA Club World Cup permutations as final round of group games begin
The final set of group games at the FIFA Club World Cup get underway on Monday (June 23) and it's still all to play for across the tournament's first round. The top two teams in each of the eight groups will advance to the knockout stage, with the bottom two in each being eliminated. Here, The Athletic guides you through the state of play in each group and who needs to do what to reach the last 16. Teams level on points will be separated by their head-to-head records and then overall goal difference. Here is what the FIFA rulebook for the tournament says: If two or more teams in the same group are equal on points after the completion of the group stage, the following criteria, in the order below, shall be applied to determine the ranking: a) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned b) superior goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned If, after having applied criteria a) to c) above, teams still have an equal ranking, to determine their final rankings, criteria a) to c) above are applied to the matches between the remaining teams only.
