Guy Klucevsek, Multi-Genre Accordion Virtuoso, Is Dead at 78
Guy Klucevsek, a masterly accordion player who developed an eclectic body of work for his beloved, if sometimes mocked, instrument that expanded its repertoire well beyond polkas and other traditional fare, died on May 22 at his home on Staten Island. He was 78.
His wife and only immediate survivor, Jan (Gibson) Klucevsek, said the cause was pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer.
Praise for Mr. Klucevsek (pronounced kloo-SEV-ek) typically noted that he had elevated the profile of the accordion beyond the realms of beer halls and 'The Lawrence Welk Show.'
Writing in The Village Voice in 2015 about a series of performances by Mr. Klucevsek in the East Village, Richard Gehr noted that, 'having mastered the instrument in virtually all of its classical, modern, jazz and international manifestations,' Mr. Klucevsek 'has extended it into another dimension altogether.'
He recorded more than 20 albums, composed dozens of pieces and commissioned others, in multiple genres. He accompanied the performance artist Laurie Anderson on her 1994 album, 'Bright Red,' and collaborated with the dancer Maureen Fleming on 'B. Madonna,' a 2013 multimedia piece based on the myth of Persephone.

B-2 bombers involved in US strike on Iran nuclear facilities return to Missouri Air Force base
KNOB NOSTER, Mo. (AP) — The B-2 stealth bombers that dropped massive bunker-buster bombs on Iranian nuclear facilities began returning to their U.S. base in Missouri on Sunday. An Associated Press journalist watched on a clear but windy afternoon as seven of the B-2 Spirit bombers came in for landing at Whiteman Air Force Base. The base, about 73 miles (117 kilometers) southeast of Kansas City, is home to the 509th Bomb Wing, the only U.S. military unit that operates the B-2 Spirit bombers. The first group of four of the stealth aircraft did a loop around the base before approaching a runway from the north, while a final group of three arrived within 10 minutes. The day before, the B-2s had been part of a wide-ranging plan involving deception and decoys to deliver what American military leaders believe is a knockout blow to a nuclear program that Israel views as an existential threat and has been pummeling for more than a week. According to U.S. officials, one group of the stealth aircraft headed west from the base in the U.S. heartland on Saturday, intended as a decoy to throw off the Iranians. Another flight of seven quietly flew off eastward, ultimately engaging in the Iran mission. Aided by an armada of refueling tankers and fighter jets — some of which launched their own weapons — U.S. pilots dropped 14 30,000-pound bombs early Sunday local time on two key underground uranium enrichment plants in Iran. American sailors bolstered the surprise mission by firing dozens of cruise missiles from a submarine toward at least one other site. U.S. officials said Iran neither detected the inbound fusillade, nor mustered a shot at the stealthy American jets. Dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer, the mission carried out a 'precision strike' that 'devastated the Iranian nuclear program,' U.S. officials said, even as they acknowledged an assessment was ongoing. For its part, Iran denied that any significant damage had been done, and the Islamic Republic pledged to retaliate.

Tyler Perry Slams $260M Sexual Assault Suit By ‘The Oval' Actor As A 'Scam'
A former longtime regular on Tyler Perry's White House drama The Oval is accusing the Madea star of sexual assault, sexual harassment and retaliation in a $260 million lawsuit — claims that Perry vehemently denies. 'Using his influence, Mr. Perry provided vulnerable men with acting positions, roles, show contracts, cars, and money,' a lawyer for Derek Dixon says of Perry's M.O. to their client and others in the 10-claim complaint filed June 13 in Los Angeles Superior Court. 'Once the object of his desire was hooked, Tyler Perry would then put them in fear of losing it all unless they engaged in Mr. Perry's perverted desire for sexual gratification. Mr. Perry would easily 'kill off' a character in a show of an actor who failed to indulge Perry's sexual fantasies.' More from Deadline Juror Tossed Out Of Sean 'Diddy' Combs Trial For Perceived 'Lying'; Judge Admonishes Defense For Claiming Racial Bias Judge Rejects Sean 'Diddy' Combs' Latest Motion For Mistrial In Sex-Trafficking Case — Update Kanye West's Very Short Visit To Sean "Diddy" Combs' Trial Proves More Photo-Op Than Support For Pal Invoking the names of 'Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, R. Kelly, Sean 'P-Diddy' Combs, Kevin Spacey, Roger Ailes, and many others in the industry,' Dixon's action details how allegedly 'on multiple occasions, Mr. Perry sexually assaulted Mr. Dixon, including one instance where he forcibly pulled off Mr. Dixon's clothing, groped his buttocks, and attempted to force himself on Dixon.' In response, Perry's representatives call BS on Dixon and his accusations. 'This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,' said Matthew Boyd, attorney for the mogul and his TPS Production Services, LLC. 'But Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.' Such claims of harassment by Dixon are very specific and widespread at the same time, it should be noted. For instance, at one point Dixon says Perry promised the actor that he had 'greenlit' the 'pilot that Perry knew Mr. Dixon had desperately wanted to produce.' The Oval vet says that even with a call from one of Perry's lawyers affirming that the pilot was moving ahead, the promise turned out to be empty. In a format reminiscent of the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni lawsuits, text messages — some more suggestive than others — pepper the 46-page filing from L.A. attorney Jonathan J. Delshad. Included is at least one from an October 2020 trip the two and others took to the Bahamas, where Dixon claims Perry got loaded and assaulted him, again. The filing also notes that Perry supposedly repeatedly threatened 'that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendos, Dixon's character would 'die' in the next season.' It goes on to add: 'Indeed, Dixon's character 'Dale' was shot four times in the chest at the end of his first season on The Oval and Perry always held this over Mr. Dixon's head, implying that 'Dale' would survive if Dixon kept Perry 'happy.'' According to Dixon, after he complained about Perry's alleged misconduct and 'Defendants did not make any investigation into the complaint and did not take any steps to prevent further harassment from occurring,' he 'had to quit his job working on the last season of The Oval.' Dixon and his attorneys claim that decision cost him around $400,000 in lost wages. 'Dixon did not want to be sexually harassed or be placed in danger of a sexual assault again,' the filing states as his reason for leaving the show and giving up the money. The Oval debuted on October 23, 2019, on BET, and saw its sixth season kick off on January 25 this year. A Ruthless spinoff premiered on BET+ on March 19, 2020.
