Married to wife Liz for 53 years, and father to Paul, Simon and Suzanne, Dave is also a proud grandfather of four and a great-grandfather to one girl.
Reflecting on his 77 years, Dave shares seven tips for reaching – and thriving at – a golden age:
1. Look after your body when you're young – you will reap the benefits when you're older.
2. Get plenty of fresh air and sunshine.
3. Surround yourself with good, positive people.
4. Count your blessings every day.
5. Make the most of each day.
6. Use every opportunity to be a blessing to others.
7. Carry your load and let God take the overload.

Mrs KZN finalist spreads hope

Businesswoman and life coach, Madeleine Pretorius, a finalist in the Mrs KwaZulu-Natal pageant organised a Rocking for Royalty charity event at Hillbillion Estate, to celebrate her journey and promote unity last Saturday. Proceeds will be donated to Rolemodels Foundation NPO, which offers housing and shelter, food and medicine, as well as life coaching and education. Pretorius is a well-known South Coast resident and is on a mission to spread hope, peace and humanity as a pageant finalist. The winner will be announced on June 16. Her journey to the crown is not just a personal achievement, it's also about putting the South Coast on the map for KZN tourism. She aims to be an ambassador for the region, showcasing its beauty and potential. Pretorius said she entered this pageant as it will help her demonstrate grace, poise and purpose to a younger generation. 'The event was a huge success with lots of music and good food. I am making way for amazing networking opportunities for myself and my community. The pageant stands for exactly who I am – empowerment, inspiration and leadership,' she said. Pretorius said by 'gunning for the crown', it will help her to connect and lead with empathy and to be an advocate for humanity.
