, was observed at his memorial in the Cantonment area of Trichy on Thursday.
Floral tributes were paid by members of the Major Saravanan Memorial Trust, Army officers from the Area Recruitment Office, NCC officers, Trichy district collector M Pradeep Kumar, MP Durai Vaiko, Mayor Mu Anbalagan, and other dignitaries.
An alumnus of St Joseph's College, Trichy, Saravanan was commissioned into the Bihar Regiment in 1995. During the Kargil conflict, his unit was deployed at Jubar Ridge in the Batalik sector.
Despite being wounded by shrapnel, he killed four enemy soldiers before succumbing to his injuries on May 29, 1999.
He was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery. A memorial near St John's Vestry School commemorates his sacrifice, featuring four pillars engraved with the national emblem, Indian Army insignia, the Vir Chakra, and the Bihar Regiment's emblem.

Jhalawar army man killed in Assam mishap, cremated

Kota: Nayak Pawan Prajapati (28), who was killed in a mishap in Assam late Thursday night was cremated with state honours at his native village Kherkheda in Jhalawar's Asnawar subdivision Sunday noon. Jhalawar-Baran MP Dushyant Singh, Khanpur MLA Suresh Gurjar, Manohar Thana MLA Govind Ranipuria, Jhalawar SDM Abhishek Charan, other district officials, and many locals were present at the funeral. The procession marched with Pawan's body draped in the tricolour for about 8 kilometres from Asnawar to Kherkheda village amid chanting of slogans and a shower of flower petals. Pawan's 5-year-old son, in the arms of his grandfather, lit the pyre, leaving the bystanders with wet eyes. Pawan Prajapati, a Nayak in the Indian Army and posted in Assam, was disembarking from a train at a railway station in Assam late Thursday night when he fell head first and sustained critical injuries, SDM Jhalawar Abhishek Charan said.
