Air India flight gets bomb threat: Birmingham to Delhi plane diverted to Riyadh; lands safely

NEW DELHI: An Air India flight from Birmingham to Delhi received a bomb threat on Saturday following which, the plane was diverted to Riyadh, ANI reported citing a spokesperson from the airlines on Sunday. "Flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi on June 21 received a bomb threat and was consequently diverted to Riyadh, where it landed safely and completed security checks," the spokesperson said. This comes after there were reports of technical glitch on an IndiGo flight leading to its cancellation on Friday. The issue was identified before the aircraft started taxiing, and as a safety precaution, all passengers were safely disembarked, ANI reported citing sources on Sunday. Moreover, there has been a wave of flight cancellations and rescheduling in the aviation sector, largely driven by technical issues, particularly following the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad. On Saturday, officials reported that an Air India Express flight en route from Delhi to Patna was diverted to Varanasi due to adverse weather conditions, though it eventually reached its destination safely. Additionally, on Friday, an IndiGo flight from Guwahati to Chennai with 168 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport after the captain issued a 'Mayday' call citing low fuel. The aircraft had initially attempted to land in Chennai, but the approach was reportedly unstable. After briefly touching the runway with its landing gear, the pilot aborted the landing and climbed steeply. The emergency call was made about 35 miles from Bengaluru, prompting the diversion.
