Cowboys Headlines: Offense primed for breakout; stadium naming snafu; eyeing Von Miller?
The Cowboys offense will be looking to bounce back in a big way in 2025, and one outlet says they're in a good position to actually do it. In this news roundup, we'll look at a few of the players who will have a large role in that turnaround effort: from the wide receiver who could be either the best move of the offseason or the biggest risk (or maybe both), the second-year lineman who knows he needs to step it up, and the tight end who wants to prove last year was a fluke.
Defensively, we'll look at a recent rumbling that says the Cowboys should bring home a Texas favorite who's sitting in free agency, and we'll see which injured defender has been hitting the gym hard during his rehab. All that, plus which prospects the Cowboys may try to hide during the preseason., which ones may be taking their final snaps with the team this year, and who is fighting over the name of AT&T Stadium?

The Cowboys offense is among those primed to take a quantum leap this season. If teams double CeeDee Lamb as they did last year, George Pickens can punish them deep and Jake Ferguson can eat underneath. The key to all of it may be Tyler Guyton. Along with Tyler Smith and rookie Tyler Booker, the O-line has the potential to be a real strength and help turn the entire unit around.

An unnamed coach in the NFC East believes the Cowboys' acquisition of Pickens should open things up for Lamb and the rest of the team's playmakers. One AFC staffer agrees and thinks Pickens has landed in a situation where he can truly shine. But there is risk: he had maturity issues that contributed to his dismissal by the Steelers.

Von Miller has been linked to Dallas before, and he's destined for Canton. But the Cowboys shouldn't make a move to sign the free agent now. With Dante Fowler and rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku manning the edge opposite Micah Parsons, the team has done plenty to address the position. Besides, Miller is 36 now and hasn't been the same since an ACL injury in late 2022.

Sam Williams is just now returning to individual drills without a knee brace as he continues to rehab the ACL tear he suffered last summer. But he's definitely been hitting the gym and packing muscle on his upper body. 'Biceps look huge,' Coach Schottenheimer said last week. 'He's doing great ... Again, no timetable, but you guys see him moving and the size and the speed and the athleticism." The added bulk should help Williams immensely in run defense.

Tyler Guyton admits he didn't play up to expectations last year. "I want to be the guy that can be depended on," Guyton said. "I'm coming with a different attitude this year to become a better player." The left tackle job is still his to lose, but the leash may be shorter in his second year... with capable backups ready to step in.

The knee sprain Ferguson sustained in Week 1 forced him to miss two games. A concussion two months later resulted in more no-shows. Add in a quarterback change, and it was a rough season for the tight end. Brian Schottenheimer called it "a fluke," but Ferguson says he's put in the work this offseason to make sure there's no repeat in his third year.

George Pickens and Kaiir Elam are in the same boat: if they perform really well, the Cowboys likely won't be able to afford to bring them back in 2026. Donovan Wilson will be 31 by then and could be aging out of his roster spot. Dante Fowler is getting up there, too. Even guys like Jack Sanborn, Jake Ferguson, and DaRon Bland may or may not be long-term Cowboys.

There can be some gamesmanship during the preseason, with teams often holding back a young player who has upside but isn't ready quite yet. The Cowboys may try to "hide" prospects they want to stash on the practice squad, like running back Phil Mafah, tight end Rivaldo Fairweather, and defensive back Alijah Clark.

The U.S. stadiums hosting FIFA World Cup games in 2026 won't be allowed to use their corporate-sponsor names for those matches. But FIFA's plan to refer to the Cowboys' home venue as "Dallas Stadium" is rankling those who live in Arlington, the actual location of the facility. "We are happy to share the name, but we believe that it should be called Arlington Dallas Stadium," said Mayor Jim Ross.

Sam Kerr's teaser sends fans wild despite sad omission as Matildas favourite returns
Sam Kerr appears to be nearing a return after sharing footage of her back in training despite being left out of Joe Montemurro's Matildas squad for his first-game in charge. There is plenty of excitement around the Matildas with new coach Montemurro naming a large 33-strong squad for games against Slovenia and Panama. Interestingly, 14 A-League Women players joined the squad but Women's Super League stars and current captain Steph Catley, forward Caitlin Foord and midfielder Katrina Gorry will not feature in the four-game window having taken leave after a long season. However, Kerr was once again among the absentees having suffered setback during her ACL rehab the other week. Kerr has not played football in more than 16 months after tearing her ACL during training for her club side Chelsea. And earlier this month, it was revealed Kerr underwent surgery on a separate injury. Little is known about her recovery timeline, with Kerr and partner Kristie Mews recently taking a break and holidaying in the off-season. However, the Matildas superstar handed fans an update having posted a photo of her back training and running with Chelsea during training. Although she was once again excluded from the Matildas squad with fans increasingly interested over when she will make a comeback. The Matildas superstar has been undergoing her recovery and was a hope to line-up for Chelsea, before their record breaking Women's Super League season came to an end. Although this didn't come to fruition with the plan for Kerr to remain in England and continue her recovery with Chelsea. 🥹🥹 — jurídico sam kerr (@m4yaramonster) June 19, 2025 Light at the end of the tunnel for next season 😍😍😍 — ℜ u k ǝ K v ǝ l l 🇬🇧🇨🇦 (@Ruke_kvell) June 19, 2025 When is Sam Kerr going to return to playing football? — The Australian's pie chart creator (@Elfvandel20) June 20, 2025 While Kerr remains out, Mackenzie Arnold and Hayley Raso both return from injury. The Tottenham winger was missed by the Matildas in recent games with her creativity a major loss for the side. Montemurro is looking to improve the Matildas and find some results with Australia's national women's team dropping to their equal-worst position on the FIFA rankings. The World No.16 side has struggled in the last 12 months having been knocked out in a disastrous Olympics and SheBelieves Cup campaign. "When you have this amount of time, you can start to infiltrate some good ideas and make a statement in terms of the way we want to play," Montemurro said. "We still want to win football matches. We still want to show you who we are as a footballing nation. But more importantly, to really instil some identity, and really instil some belief in this team that you know going forward."

Raiders Predicted to Cut Ties With Fan Favorite RB Before Season
Raiders Predicted to Cut Ties With Fan Favorite RB Before Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders' running back room is going to look quite different this season. First-round pick Ashton Jeanty will almost certainly be the starter, and veteran free agent signing Raheem Mostert is the likely backup. Advertisement That's going to leave several talented players left to fight for either one or two roster spots. One player who is going to have an uphill battle is 2024 sixth-round pick Dylan Laube. He was impressive in training camp last offseason, which led to him becoming a quick fan favorite. However, he fumbled on his first career carry, and the Raiders didn't give him another one for the rest of the season. Las Vegas Raiders RB Dylan Ward-Imagn Images Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal put together a 53-man roster prediction ahead of training camp, and he projects that Laube will miss the cut. "It was obvious during the Raiders offseason program that Jeanty, the sixth overall pick in this year's draft, is not a typical running back," Bonsignore wrote. "His combination of power, balance, grace and burst is exceptional. The only question is how high his ceiling is and how quickly he can reach it. There will be competition for snaps behind him, as Mostert and McCormick have been productive when given opportunities in the NFL. White also reported to OTAs and minicamp in great shape after a disappointing season. Laube, a 2024 sixth-round pick, is likely on the roster bubble and may need to shine on special teams to earn a spot." Advertisement Laube would be a great candidate to make the practice squad, but it's difficult to see a scenario where he makes the 53-man roster to start the season. $132 Million WR Was Trying to Get to Raiders This Offseason, Says Former Player
$132 Million WR Was Trying to Get to Raiders This Offseason, Says Former Player originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders had a very busy offseason, but new general manager John Spytek has shown a lot of discipline early on. Instead of spending a ton of money on big-name free agents or trading for disgruntled star skill position players, he's exercised a more patient approach. Advertisement However, the Raiders did have a big need at wide receiver this offseason, and DK Metcalf was an obvious fit due to his previous ties with head coach Pete Carroll. The team already made one trade with the Seattle Seahawks by dealing for Geno Smith, so another transaction wouldn't have been out of the question. Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images Plus, it sounds like Metcalf really wanted to go to Las Vegas. Carroll was a guest on Da Get Got Pod With Marshawn Lynch & Mike Robinson. The topic of Smith coming to the Raiders came up, which led Lynch to talk about how Carroll wanted to bring a lot of former Seahawks to Las Vegas. "I know, remember DK (Metcalf) wanted to go there," Robinson chimed in. Advertisement They quickly moved on from that talking point, but it was a very interesting note for Robinson to drop. He was a former Seahawks player, and Lynch played with Metcalf briefly, so it stands to reason that they'd have some insight into his thought process. It's not entirely clear why the Raiders wouldn't have wanted to trade for the star wide receiver. He did end up costing the Steelers $132 million once he got traded, so perhaps the team just didn't want to pay him that kind of money after a trade.
