Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
has said all roads leading to Nashik will be upgraded ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which will begin on October 31 next year.
A high-level meeting concerning the highways connecting Nashik was held in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways
Nitin Gadkari
, a release from the Chief Minister's Office said on Sunday.
Considering the large number of devotees and the need for traffic management during the mega congregation in Nashik, Gadkari has given in-principle approval for the development and construction of necessary road infrastructure through his ministry, it said.

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela will begin on October 31, 2026, with 'Dhwajarohan' (flag hoisting) at Trimbakeshwar and Ramkund in Nashik. The flag will be taken down on July 24, 2028, marking the conclusion of the event, which is held once every 12 years.
Citing the growing faith of devotees and expected rise in footfall during the Kumbh Mela, Fadnavis had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for central support to boost road infrastructure, the release said.

Accordingly, a high-level meeting was held at the CM's Office in Nagpur in the presence of Gadkari and state senior officials, and these decisions were taken, it said.
Nashik is connected by eight major routes, including from Mumbai, Palghar, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dhule and neighbouring Gujarat state.
While these roads will play a crucial role during the Kumbh Mela, internal roads in and around Nashik that connect to national highways were also discussed in the meeting.
Gadkari has given in-principle approval to nearly all proposed roads, and it was decided that the required funds to complete the work would be provided soon, the CMO said.
Fadnavis said the expected surge in traffic during Kumbh will be managed effectively through an expanded road network, ensuring safer travel for devotees.
Approval was granted for the Nashik Ring Road, and a decision was made to widen the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road into a six-lane highway, the release said.
To ensure smooth traffic within Nashik, it has been decided to enhance the infrastructure at Dwarka Circle.
Like the Kalamboli junction in Navi Mumbai, Nashik's Dwarka Circle will be developed in two phases, one before Kumbh and the other after the event, the release added. PTI

No More Toll Woes? New Highway Pass Offers 200 Trips For Rs 3,000; Details Here

Last Updated: Tired of handing over toll fees every time you hit the highway? A new pass could be your golden ticket: 200 trips for just Rs 3,000. But there's a catch Motorists are required to pay toll charges to use India's national highways. However, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a new scheme offering an annual toll pass priced at Rs 3,000. This pass will allow private vehicles to pass through toll plazas operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Expressway (NE) network up to 200 times in a year. Notably, the scheme does not apply to toll booths on state highways. Who Benefits From The Scheme? The scheme is solely applicable to private or domestic vehicles and excludes commercial ones. The initiative has been well received by residents of Ambala in Haryana. Speaking to Local 18, Naveen Kumar Yadav expressed appreciation for the move. He regularly drives to Chandigarh with his family and said the toll costs add up quickly. The new pass, he added, would help him save both time and money. Another motorist praised the scheme, calling the Rs 3,000 annual pass a 'commendable initiative." He believes it will be especially useful for families who frequently travel by car. One of the locals of Ambala echoed similar sentiments. He often takes trips to the mountains with his family, which racks up considerable toll expenses. He said being able to make 200 crossings in a year for a fixed price would be a significant saving. First Published: June 23, 2025, 14:29 IST

India's first mangrove park nears completion in Mumbai's Gorai; likely to open in August

Mumbai's Gorai village is almost ready to welcome visitors to India's first dedicated mangrove park, developed at a cost of approximately INR 33.43 crore over eight hectares. The Maharashtra Forest Department's Mangrove Cell, which started work in October 2021, is targeting a grand opening by mid-August. There is a 750-metre elevated wooden boardwalk at the heart of the park, which has been constructed with eco-friendly materials to protect the underlying mangrove ecosystem. This winding path culminates in a scenic viewing deck overlooking Gorai Creek, perfect for tranquil nature observation. Complementing this is an 18metre-tall watchtower, designed for birdwatchers to spot both local and migratory species from a vantage point high above the canopy. Chaos at Patna Airport: Passengers left without baggage as 2 Air India Express land without luggage

Passengers arriving on two Air India Express flights at Patna's Jayprakash Narayan International Airport on Saturday morning were left shocked after discovering that none of their checked-in baggage had arrived with them. What started as a routine landing quickly descended into confusion, as tired travellers waited around empty conveyor belts, only to realise their luggage was missing entirely, according to a ToI report. The incident involved flights IX-2936 from Bengaluru and IX-1634 from Chennai, which landed at 8.23am and 8.50am, respectively. Passengers were directed to collect their luggage from belts 4 and 3, but after prolonged waits, it became clear that no baggage was arriving, reported TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo "I waited for more than an hour, but the belt was empty," said Vivek Sharma, a passenger from Bengaluru. 'Luggage to be delivered to passengers home addresses'. "Airport staff informed us that due to bad weather in Bengaluru, our luggage was not loaded. Despite repeated enquiries at the airline's counter, we were given no clear answers about where our bags were or when we would get them back," Sharma added. "All my medicines are in that luggage. I can't wait another day," he said. Live Events CISF personnel and airline staff had to step in to manage the crowd, assuring passengers that arrangements were being made to bring the baggage on subsequent flights. Airline representatives blamed the issue on bad weather in Bengaluru and Chennai, compounded by Patna airport's short runway. They also cited weight restrictions and safety protocols as reasons for not loading the baggage. "The luggage will be delivered to your home addresses once it arrives," airline staff told the crowd. Airport officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the primary issue was the aircraft's load factor. "This happens occasionally when departing from Patna where airlines are forced to unload checked baggage to meet the maximum take-off weight. The airport's shorter runway makes it more likely," said an official. Air India Group is avoiding certain airspace in the Middle East, resulting in longer flight durations while Air India Express is cancelling some services due to the evolving situation. The group has two airlines -- Air India and Air India Express -- and the latter operates a significant chunk of the services to the Middle East with narrow-body planes. "Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region, Air India Group confirms that our flights currently do not operate over the airspaces of Iran, Iraq, and Israel. "As a proactive measure, we will be progressively avoiding the use of certain airspace over the Persian Gulf in the coming days, opting instead for alternative paths for flights to destinations, including the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait," Air India said in a statement on Sunday. As per the statement, the adjustment may lead to extended flight durations for these services as well as for select flights to/from Europe and North America. According to some travel industry bodies, ticket bookings for Air India flights have seen a drop of up to 20 per cent on international as well as domestic routes, while average fares have declined 8-15 per cent as a result of the plane crash in Ahmedabad. An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed on June 12, seconds after takeoff, killing over 270 people onboard and on the ground. The second source said services are being cancelled on account of the escalating tensions in the Middle East as well as airspace congestion. Passengers are being informed in advance about the cancellations, the source added. There was no official comments from Air India Express on the flight cancellations. Air India operates flights to Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, and Jeddah in the Gulf region. Meanwhile, in the statement, Air India also said it is in continuous consultation with its external security advisors and is vigilantly monitoring the evolving situation, ready to implement additional measures, if required, to uphold the safety and integrity of our operations.
