In Housefull 5, Akshay Kumar Finally Delivers A Long-Awaited Blockbuster

NDTV11-06-2025

At the trailer launch of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan last year, Akshay Kumar said there was a time when he had "16 consecutive flops" in his career.
"But I stood there and kept on doing work. I'll still do that," he said at the time.
It took time, but today the actor and his Housefull 5 producers are laughing all the way to the bank. This spells good news not only for Akshay Kumar, who was battling a rough patch for around four years now, but also for the Hindi film industry for whom the rising box office numbers of the latest film is expected to be a shot in the arm.
Housefull 5, the newest chapter in the comedy film franchise Housefull, crossed the Rs 100 crore-mark at the domestic box office on Tuesday. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani of Dostana fame, the thriller comedy released in theatres on June 6.

Housefull 5, which was mounted on a reported budget of Rs 300 crore, has a star-studded cast and two alternate endings (Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B).
The film also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangda Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Panday, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Nikitin Dheer, Dino Morea, Soundarya Sharma, and Ranjeet.
Housefull 5 is also his third release this year after period dramas Kesari Chapter 2 and Sky Force, which fell just a bit short from becoming box office successes.
According to reports, Sky Force was made on a budget of Rs 150 crore and earned Rs 149 crore. Kesari Chapter 2 raised around Rs 120 crore while it was made on a budget of Rs 150 crore.
Bankrolled by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Housefull 5 is around Rs 200 crore away from being called a bona fide hit.
It's the fifth film in the comedy franchise and it marks the 10 years of the first Housefull film too. And, so the makers left no stone unturned in their efforts to make this film a hit.
Mediapersons were distributed BookMyShow codes worth Rs 500 to watch Housefull 5A along with a companion for a show on the release day (June 6) at a cinema hall of their choice.
Then, multiplex chain PVR INOX said viewers can watch the film at just Rs 149 on June 10 (Tuesday).

In terms of advance bookings for the release day, Housefull (both versions combined) had earned Rs 14 crore, with the figures from block (reserved) seats amounting to approximately Rs 5 crore, according to trade website Sacnilk.
The movie's reported earnings come as a much-needed respite for Akshay Kumar.
After the success of 2021's Sooryavanshi, one of the biggest hit Hindi films in the post-COVID-19 era which grossed over Rs 290 crore, came a period where many of the actor's promising big-ticket titles across genres, such as Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, didn't work at the box office.
The only exceptions were 2023's OMG 2, in which Akshay Kumar featured in an extended guest appearance, as well as Stree 2 and Singham Again, both 2024 releases, which starred him in a cameo. Two of his movies Atrangi Re and Cutputtli got a direct-to-digital release on JioHotstar (then Disney+ Hotstar).
The name of Akshay Kumar once bore the promise of a hit film, an idea that has been under scanner and intense media scrutiny for the last four years. The films being poorly reviewed by critics also didn't help.
During the trailer launch of Sky Force earlier this year, Akshay Kumar candidly spoke about his career slump.
"It's not that it has happened for the first time. The best part is you keep on working hard. That is what I tell myself. If anyone talks to me about it, I say the same thing that you have to keep working hard," the actor had said.
Akshay Kumar also said many people have started advising him to do "one film or maximum two films" in a year.
"... But I say if I can work, then why not? I have based my entire career on that. Many people have told me not to do content-based films, but I don't want to leave that. I want to keep working on different kinds of films," he had said at the time.
All in all, if the box office collections of Housefull 5 grow from strength to strength, this film may spell a comeback for the actor.

Watch: This Grilled Corn Ice Cream From South Korea's Jeju Island Has The Internet Drooling

Corn and ice cream — both are flavourful and delicious when consumed separately. But what if they are served as one? Need not be surprised, as in the world of bizarre culinary combos, nothing is impossible. Recently, a digital creator, @coffeegomi, treated foodies to a similar preparation: Grilled corn ice cream. Found at the ice cream parlour Jeomjeom in Jeju Island, South Korea, this one-of-a-kind dessert is sweet, nutty and creamy, all in one. It is priced at 7,500 won (approximately Rs 470). This Jeju Island speciality is prepared by torch-roasting one half of a corn cob. Next, it is topped with rich and luscious swirly vanilla ice cream. And voila! Your grilled corn ice cream is ready. Dig into the creamy ice cream with a spoon at first and take a scrumptious bite of the kernels after. As per the creator, this unique dessert is perfect for those who love Chodang corn, a type of Korean sweet corn known for its exceptional sweetness and crunchy texture. 'You get the sweet aroma, the nutty corn flavour, and the luxurious richness of the cream—all combined in one treat,' shared the creator in the caption. Watch the full video below: View this post on Instagram A post shared by 가보자곰 (@coffeegomi) Foodies queued up in the comments section, unable to resist. 'I love Chodang corn, and it definitely looks delicious,' gushed one user. 'Can't believe it is a corn and a cream combo,' exclaimed another. 'This is the first place that comes to mind when you make corn ice cream,' shared an individual. 'The visual of the super sweet corn is insane,' wrote one person, presumably drooling at the thought of relishing this deliciously sweet and savoury dessert. 'This is crazy,' read a remark. Here's what this user had to say: 'Next time I go to Jeju, I will carry this around (with me),' 'Ice cream on top of corn? What a unique combination!! I really want to try it,' confessed a sweet tooth.

Made for Rs 41 crore, this film was rejected by Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, became a hit, earned Rs.. won 55 awards, lead actor is..

In 2013, a film hit theatres with the force of a storm — a story that didn't just touch hearts but rewrote box office history and award lists. It went on to win 55 awards, including two National Awards and a Filmfare Best Actor trophy. But what if we told you that this cinematic triumph was rejected by not one but three of Bollywood's top heroes? We're talking about Bhaag Milkha Bhaag , the sports biopic that immortalised India's 'Flying Sikh' — Milkha Singh — on the big screen. Directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, the film eventually starred Farhan Akhtar in the lead, but the road to finding that perfect Milkha was full of U-turns. The rejected bids Rakesh Omprakash Mehra initially approached three leading actors: Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, and Ranveer Singh. Each passed: Hrithik Roshan, praised for intensity, was unavailable—'committed to Krrish,' Mehra recalls in his memoir The Stranger in the Mirror. Aamir Khan, conflicted after Rang De Basanti, bluntly said, 'this is not for me.' Ranveer Singh read the script, impressed with the character, but ultimately declined. Mehra admits, 'I never understood why.' Enter the perfect pick After those three rejections, Farhan Akhtar stepped in. Within just 15 minutes of hearing the concept, he was all in. His portrayal as the legendary runner Milkha Singh, supported by Divya Dutta, Pawan Malhotra, Yograj Singh, Prakash Raj—and a cameo by Sonam Kapoor—transformed the film completely. From Rs 30 cr budget to global hit Despite its modest Rs 30 crore budget, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag surpassed box-office expectations, earning Rs 108 crore net in India and Rs 168 crore globally, quintupling its investment. Awards galore Besides its massive box office success, the film swept awards — 55 in total — and solidified Farhan's place in Bollywood not just as an actor but a performer with serious depth. From rejections to record-breaker, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag wasn't just a movie — it was a race to the finish line that no one saw coming.

Meet actor who did C-grade films, worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, has net worth of Rs...

Bollywood has been a place where actors and actresses need to be on their toes always. From grabbing the right opportunity to fitting into a role perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle, one needs to be prepared. Today, we are going to discuss an actor who, with his grit and determination, made his way into the Bollywood industry. There was a time when he worked in C-grade films, but today, he is counted among the most talented actors in the industry. This person was initially underestimated a lot, but then he changed the tide and became a top actor in the industry. People overlooked him for his dark complexion and height, but he proved everyone wrong. From movies to series, this actor has his 'dabdaba' among the audience. We are talking about none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Born in Budhana, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, Nawazuddin completed his studies from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar. To earn his bread and butter, he went to Vadodara and became a chemist. However, Nawaz knew that his passion lay in acting. Hence, he came to Delhi and learned the nuances of acting by enrolling in the National School of Drama (NSD), and then came to Mumbai in search of work. Nawazuddin Siddiqui kept doing small roles for years. During this time, he also did C-grade films. On Kapil Sharma's show, the actor had said, 'Nobody even knows about half of the films. There were many C-grade films, they were being made at that time, so I used to work in them too.' Nawazuddin Siddiqui's 'big break' in Bollywood came when he featured in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2 in 2012. His portrayal of Faizal Khan received widespread praise. Since then, he never looked back. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who started his career in Bollywood with a small role in Aamir Khan's film Sarfarosh, has appeared in many great films including Gangs of Wasseypur, Badlapur, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kahaani and Raees. Today, he leads a luxurious life and lives in a home worth Rs 12 crore. Talking about the actor's net worth, according to media reports, his total assets are Rs 160 crore.
