Meet the fan who placed third against pros in Fanatics Games

NEW YORK — For anyone who looked at the Fanatics Games' final leaderboard Sunday afternoon, there was only one question to ask: Who the hell is Matt Dennish?
Fanatics Games final championship leaderboard:
Tom Brady, 399.1
Justin Gaethje, 345.4
Matt Dennish, 325

Dennish is now the answer to an age-old question: Can an average Joe beat the Pros?

Dennish is a 39-year-old high school teacher at his alma mater, Red Lion High School in York, Pennsylvania. He was one of 50 average fans who got the chance to compete against the pros for the top prize of $1 million, and he finished in third place to win a 2003-04 LeBron James rookie chrome refractor card, last valued at $250,000.
Dennish later traded the card to Brady for $250,000 cash, plus a signed Brady card and jersey.
Brady said he would give $5,000 to every fan who competed and donate the rest of his earnings to charity.

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady added to his trophy case by taking home the initial Fanatics Games title and the $1 million prize. UFC fighter Justin Gaethje placed second and won a 2025 Ferrari 296 GTB.
Six of the top 10 finishers were average fans.
Dennish was clearly one of the best athletes in the competition.
He stands 6-foot-6, was a standout cross-country and track runner and a basketball player in high school. He ran a 4:08 mile his freshman year at East Carolina, and he said his recent accomplishments included hitting a half-court shot at a Philadelphia 76ers game and working himself down to a two handicap on the golf course.

Dennish beat out such pros as Kevin Durant, Eli Manning, Dwight Howard, Rob Gronkowski, Denny Hamlin, Russell Wilson, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and Julian Edelman.
Contestants were scored in eight contests, and the lowest two numbers were dropped.
Dennish came into Friday's competition most nervous about the WWE Superstar entrance since he isn't a fan of wrestling.
"A friend who is a fan convinced me to do Joe Hendry," Dennish told cllct. "I got a belt that our high school women's wrestling team bought and took off my shirt."
Dennish got 70 total points in the WWE event, good for 10th-best score of the day.
The MLB pitching accuracy was next. Contestants were given six pitches to score as many points as they can by hitting targets. The top and bottom corners were worth five points. The middle strike zone was one, and all the rest were three. Dennish shined, hitting four five-pointers, a three and a one. No one did better.
Next he hit the NHL washer-dryer puck shooting contest, an area he knew would be difficult. He's not a hockey guy. Given 12 shots, he failed to knock in one, only lifting the puck successfully once.

In the NFL QB skills, Dennish was impressive. He went 3-for-5 in the 10-yard toss and the 20-yard toss and missed the golden ball, a 30-yard toss, by a foot or two.
The top three best contestants in this skill were not surprisingly: 1. Stroud, 2. Brady and 3 (tie). Russell Wilson and Eli Manning. Dennish came in a respectable 11th.
Dennish also finished 11th overall in the UFC striking challenge, hitting the punching bag for a total of 75.5 points.
The FIFA goal-scoring was a strategy game for Dennish. He hit six out of eight in the bottom corners for five points each, but then got greedy by trying the top corners for 10 points and missed them all. He came in sixth. Streamer Adin Ross finished with Friday's best score.

In the last event, the Dick's closest-to-the-pin golf contest, Dennish knew he would be among the best. And he was right.
"It's basically all I do these days," he said.
The challenge? The contestants had five chances to get the ball on the green at a 105-yard par-3 hole, simulated from Oakmont Country Club, the site of last week's U.S. Open. One point for the green, two points for within 15 yards. Dennish came away with a respectable four points, placing three on the green and one within 15 feet.
Brady finished first, and Dennish was fourth, one spot ahead of Manning.
After competing, Dennish sat around eating some pizza and reloading the scores. Before he headed home on his train back to Pennsylvania, he saw he was in third place behind Brady and just ahead of Manning.

Although he dropped to third Sunday after Gaethje passed him, Dennish managed to hold onto the third spot and finish on the podium.

How to watch Seattle Sounders vs Paris Saint-Germain: TV channel and live stream for Club World Cup today

Paris Saint-Germain will close out their Club World Cup group stage campaign today, meeting the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. The Parisiens have had mixed fortunes in the United States, producing a formidable 4-0 win over ten-man Atletico Madrid in their opener before falling to a frustrated 1-0 loss to Botafogo. Advertisement Igor Jesus, reportedly set to join Nottingham Forest this summer, was the goalscorer in the Botafogo defeat. Luis Enrique, though, highlighted the efforts of their back-line as a defining factor in the result. 'Botafogo was the team that defended us best all season, obviously in our League and in the Champions League,' he said. 'They made a low block from the start and were very efficient, united. We didn't generate as many chances as usual.' The champions of Europe could not muster a response to his first-half strike, failing to convert any of their 16 shots, 10 corners, and 75% possession. Despite enjoying home pitch advantage for much of the competition, Seattle sit bottom of Group B with zero points. They are not yet eliminated, though, thanks to the middling fortunes of Atletico and PSG, and could still qualify with a win. Advertisement Goal difference is not an issue, either, as any win would see them surpass Atletico's tally of -2. Oakley & Meta Announce New Performance AI Glasses With Help From Travis Scott & Tom Brady At Fanatics Fest

Source: Getty Images / Meta / Travis Scott Oakley and Meta launched a new pair of performance AI glasses with some help from the goat, Tom Brady, and Travis Scott. Kicking off Fanatics Fest in NYC, Oakley and Meta hosted a special event featuring a panel with Tom Brady, Travis Scott, and Michael Rubin, moderated by Caio Amato, Global President of Oakley. The primary focus of the panel was the art of partnership and collaboration, and Rubin, Brady, and Scott were the ideal individuals to have that discussion with, as each has numerous successful partnerships with brands and among themselves. Source: Getty Images / Oakley x Meta Before the event began, those fortunate enough to gain entry to the Meta Theater were required to place their phones in magnetically sealed pouches, as it was being promoted as a no-phone event. We learned why because Travis Scott wanted to ensure everyone was in the moment during his short but very electric performance, giving his diehard fans a taste of what his complete sets are like. Source: Getty Images / Oakley x Meta Scott made sure to call his 'ragers' to the front while performing hits like 'FE!N' and 'Butterfly Effect,' which got a pop out of the crowd that could probably be heard throughout the entire Javits Center. Source: Matt Monath / Oakley x Meta Scott also wore a pair of the bold Oakley Meta HSTN glasses during his performance, providing a hands-free first-person view of his electric performance for his fans who couldn't be in the building. Source: Getty Images / Oakley x Meta x Travis Scott As for the glasses, they will be available for preorder beginning July 11. Amato spoke about Oakley's partnership with Meta on the new Oakley Meta HSTN glasses. 'For 50 years, we've been pushing the boundaries of what is possible, obsessed with solving unsolved problems,' says Caio Amato, Global President of Oakley. 'Together with Meta we are setting new bounds of reality—It is not only about pushing forward performance, but also about amplifying human potential as never before. And this is just the first chapter of a new era for sports.' For more information on the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, visit this link . Steelers hint at new Terrible Towel, special announcement coming next week

Steelers fans may soon get a glimpse at the 50th anniversary edition of the Terrible Towel — as a special announcement is coming next week. The official Steelers Pro Shop teased that a reveal is coming, posting an image on social media of what appears to be a close-up of the 50th anniversary 2025 Terrible Towel. Back in May, Steelers President Art Rooney II claimed a new throwback jersey was set to be revealed in July, and also hinted at a 'little celebration' for the 50th anniversary of the Terrible Towel. Advertisement The Steelers debuted the Terrible Towel on December 27, 1975, in a playoff matchup against the Baltimore Colts, and it has since become a larger-than-life symbol of Pittsburgh sports — evident by its journeys to unbelievable locations such as Mt. Everest and space. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like.
