Andhra Pradesh govt. renames YSR district as ‘YSR Kadapa'
The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday officially renamed YSR District as YSR Kadapa District, restoring the historical reference of Kadapa to the district's name. The G.O. Ms. No. 170 order was issued in this regard by G. Jayalakshmi, Special Chief Secretary, Revenue Department.
The decision came just a day before the TDP Mahanadu event, scheduled to be held in Kadapa from May 27 to 29.
Originally known as Kadapa district, it was renamed in 2010 as YSR District in memory of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy after his demise in 2009. The district is the home turf of both YSR and his son, YSRCP president and former Chief Ministrer Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The word Kadapa means threshold in Telugu language. The town served as a gateway for pilgrims visiting Tirupati. The spelling 'Cuddapah' was officially changed to Kadapa in 2005.

YSRCP supporter ‘run over by Jagan's vehicle' in bid to shower flowers on it, Andhra police begin probe as video goes viral
Police in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh have launched an investigation after a YSRCP supporter was allegedly run over by the vehicle of party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday. Cheeli Singaiah, 55, died after being run over purportedly when he slipped and fell in front of the vehicle while trying to shower flowers on Jagan. According to officials, the vehicle's front right wheel ran over the man's neck. Police and YSRCP supporters rushed him to a nearby hospital and later to Guntur Government Hospital, but he died on the way, said Guntur Superintendent of Police S Satish Kumar. Initially, it was thought that Singaiah was injured after climbing on a vehicle in Jagan's convoy and falling down, but videos of him being crushed under the vehicle in which Jagan was travelling have gone viral on social media. Singaiah was a resident of Vengalayapalem village and had gone to greet Jagan with flowers. The incident occurred when Jagan was returning after visiting Rentapalla village in Palnadu district, where he had gone to console the family of a former sarpanch who had died by suicide, allegedly due to police harassment. Singaiah 'unfortunately fell down in front of the convoy and was run over', SP Kumar said. On the same day, another YSRCP supporter, 30-year-old P Jayvardhan Reddy, collapsed and died in a melee of Jagan supporters near Sattenapalli clock tower. He was declared brought dead at the Guntur Government Hospital. Jagan's visit to Palnadu had already become controversial due to a placard held up by a YSRCP supporter, which led to a police case and a political blame game. The placard, held up by YSRCP worker T Raviteja on Wednesday, said: 'When YSRCP comes to power in 2029', and below that, 'rapa rapa narukuta'. The Telugu words were part of a line delivered by Allu Arjun in Pushpa 2. It translates to 'cut them down, one by one'. Police in Palnadu said they registered a case against Raviteja. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha accused Jagan of encouraging such 'violent' statements. Jagan defended the placard, saying it was not meant to be violent and asked, 'So, now you can't even quote a line from a movie?'

Telangana cabinet to finalise reply to Ghose panel on KLIS and other key issues
HYDERABAD: The state cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday will deliberate on the information to be provided to the PC Ghose Commission, which has requested details of cabinet approvals by the previous govt for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The commission, currently investigating the sinking of piers at Medigadda and the damage to the Annaram and Sundilla barrages under KLIS, has cross-examined former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former ministers T Harish Rao and Eatala Rajender. Following their depositions, the commission is understood to have written to the govt seeking further details. KCR , Harish Rao, and Eatala reportedly informed the commission that the project was undertaken with cabinet approval. However, Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who served during the first term of the previous BRS govt, claimed that many decisions were made solely by KCR. "The chief minister's office has responded to the Ghose Commission stating that the requested information will be submitted by June 30. The matter will be discussed at the cabinet meeting on June 23," sources in the CMO said. To Myanmar with love for Telugu
SRIKAKULAM: 73-year-old Yerra Atchannaidu, alias Yerra Naidu, has dedicated his post-retirement life and personal funds to teaching Telugu to the Telugu-speaking community in Myanmar (Burma), where the language is gradually disappearing. Over 2.5 lakh Telugu people are settled in Myanmar, and in 1911, they formed the 'Andhra Sangham'. Naidu's forefathers migrated to Burma, but his parents returned to India as refugees during the 1966 crisis. Naidu later got a job in the Public Works Department (PWD), shifted to the Airport department in 1990, and retired in 2010 after two decades of service. In 2011, he visited Myanmar to attend the centenary celebrations of the Andhra Sangham in Moulmein city. There, he observed the decline of the Telugu language and resolved to preserve it. 'Although I worked in Central government departments they are unrelated to language. I have an interest in learning our mother tongue and passion in teaching. These two instincts drove me to improve Telugu language status in Burma,' Yerra Naidu told TNIE. Naidu began teaching Telugu. Upon returning to India, he collaborated with Telugu teachers to develop teaching materials, acknowledging that most settlers had become accustomed to the Burmese language. Naidu compiled a Telugu-English-Myanmar (Burmese) dictionary with guidance from language experts, and got two editions of the Telugu-Burmese book published by Telugu Academy.
