Klang fatal shooting: "I thought it was a crow-shooting operation", says shop owner
KLANG: The daily routine of the community in Taman Meru Utama came to a standstill when the peace was shattered by the sound of gunfire in front of a motorcycle shop that claimed the life of a local man on Friday (June 20).
At the time of the incident, a retail shop owner, a woman who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the shooting happened so quickly that it was difficult for the public to ascertain where several gunshots - heard at about 3.20pm - were coming from.
"I was tying flowers to make a garland when I heard an explosion like firecrackers, then I looked towards a motorcycle shop which was just 20m away and saw several individuals, including the motorcycle shop workers, running towards my store.
"I thought it was a crow-shooting operation but that hasn't been staged here for a long time since many trees have been cut down (where crows perch), … then I realised someone has been shot and killed in a vehicle right in front of the motorcycle shop,' she told Bernama here on Saturday (June 21).
The woman in her 50s also said that this was the first incident of its kind to occur near Taman Meru Utama in the five years she and her family have been running a grocery and food business.
On Friday, North Klang police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao confirmed that a 46-year-old local man had died from gunshot wounds in a four-wheel drive pickup truck, with a post-mortem scheduled for 9am today.
When contacted today, Vijaya Rao said police were investigating possible secret society elements in the case.
He said several individuals had so far been called in to have their statements recorded.
"Preliminary investigations found that the victim, who was self-employed, was accompanying his friend who wanted to buy a second-hand motorcycle at the shop.
"He was believed to have been shot at close range, and a post-mortem is still ongoing,' he said, adding that the police were also reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding area.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.- Bernama

Police hunt parang-wielding duo in viral robbery attempt in Hulu Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down two parang-wielding men involved in an attempted robbery at a shop in Hulu Selangor. The suspects, who were caught on video dressed in black, wearing caps and face masks, were seen attempting to attack a local man at the back of the premises. Acting Hulu Selangor district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Asri Mohd Yunus said the victim lodged a police report on Wednesday at 6.42am. "Investigations revealed that the incident took place at a premises in Ulu Yam Baru. "While the victim was inside the shop, two people entered through the back door and attempted to attack the victim with parang. "It is believed that the suspects are local men," he said in a statement. During the incident, the victim screamed for help, causing the suspects to panic and flee the scene, he said. He said they did not manage to steal any of the victim's belongings. The case is being investigated under section 393 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a maximum penalty of seven years' jail and a fine. Photographer's Car Damaged By Explosion Debris While Covering Fire In Masai, Johor
By Nur Fatin Mohmad Kadenen JOHOR BAHRU, June 21 (Bernama) -- A car belonging to a photographer from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was damaged after being hit by explosion debris while he was covering a fire at a lorry and engine oil storage facility at Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, here today. Mohd Hilmizudin Daud, 34, who is based at the Johor Bureau, did not expect that debris from the explosion would damage his Perodua Kelisa, which was parked about 100 metres from the scene. He said the debris broke the left-side wing mirror and left dents and scratches on the same side of the car. Mohd Hilmizudin, a father of one who is expecting a second child in early July, said he had no choice but to come to terms with the damage to the car that had been his faithful companion on countless assignments for the past three years. 'I only realised my car was damaged around 7 pm after I had completed my assignment. While I was shooting, there were many explosions and barrels even flew into the air, which I managed to capture. 'When I reached my car and started the engine to reverse, I noticed the left wing mirror was missing. Initially, I thought it had been folded back because someone might have leaned against the car,' he told Bernama. Mohd Hilmizudin said he had rushed to the scene with his colleague, reporter Nur Fadhliana Shaari, at around 2 pm after being informed of the incident. He was relieved that they were not injured while at the scene. 'This is the first time something like this has happened in my 11 years as a Bernama photographer.
