Among others, he is one of the leading candidates to replace Darwin Nunez as the Reds's striker, although extensive interest from Chelsea has been reported, which led Liverpool fans to believe that the club might have missed out on the opportunity to secure his signature for a long-term move.
However, we have no received an update on his situation and things are looking promising.

Ekitike is still considering his options
According to Fabrizio Romano, writing in his Give Me Sport newsletter, not all hope is lost for Ekitike.
In response to the question, 'does he have a Premier League club he would prefer to join?', he said: "No, he's considering all his options and still talking to all these clubs [Manchester United], Liverpool and Chelsea]. No decision has been made yet."

As such, the Reds can think positively about their chances, although his €100m asking price is still going to be a significant hurdle for Liverpool to get passed before an official approach is made.
Using the current exchange rate, that figure would be around £85m, which is what the previously agreed fee for Nunez to join the club was back in 2022, although the initial fee was just £65m with £20m in add-ons - £12.7m of which were actually triggered, taking his outlay to £77.7m.
Nonetheless, a move with a similar cost would need to be heavily considered, even if the approach this summer is to spend money when necessary. A level of certainty about Ekitike would be required.

Liverpool 'drops' $80M Darwin Nunez asking price as Napoli wants transfer

Liverpool has reportedly dropped its asking price for Darwin Nunez, and would accept a fee of around €50 million ($58 million) plus add-ons for the Uruguayan striker. Nunez is widely expected to leave Liverpool this summer, three years on from a big-money transfer from Benfica. Liverpool knocked back approaches for Nunez from clubs in Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window, but there remains a strong market for the Reds' No. 9 during the ongoing summer window. Advertisement The interest from Saudi Arabia remains, while Atletico Madrid, Napoli and AC Milan are also being linked with the 25-year-old. It's claimed that Napoli has made a verbal offer of around €43 million ($50 million) for Nunez, with Napoli said to be keen to provide support to Romelu Lukaku in its front line. Advertisement Napoli boss Antonio Conte is said to be a fan of Nunez and believes he has a higher chance of realizing his potential away from the Premier League. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Napoli's interest in Nunez earlier this week, saying that concrete talks have been taking place ahead of a possible move. "We are keeping the names that have been mentioned in recent days regarding Napoli's attack," Romano said, as quoted by Tutto Napoli. "I told you about Darwin Nunez, who has moved from phone calls to serious, direct and concrete contacts. "Napoli is working on the Darwin Nunez operation, but it is not an easy operation. There is competition from other clubs, including some from Saudi Arabia. We will understand more in the next few days, but it is a move that the Azzurri certainly want to try to make. "Now we will have to understand if it will be feasible from an economic and competition point of view, but the certainty is that Darwin Nunez will leave Liverpool." "I'd love to see Julian Alvarez at Liverpool and I think Darwin Nunez being part of the deal would make a lot of sense," Hamann told "I think Nunez is tailor-made for Atletico Madrid as a physical centre forward, someone who will work so hard, which is what Diego Simeone wants. Advertisement "Alvarez would also be a fantastic addition at Liverpool. He played in the shadow of Erling Haaland at Manchester City, but really added to his reputation in Madrid. "He led the line, scored goals, and made life a nuisance for the back lines he played against. I think he would be a brilliant signing. "There are rumors about other forwards, but Alvarez would be a great addition to Liverpool, and Nunez might just be an even better signing for Atletico."

Virgil Van Dijk's: The Constant in Liverpool's Historic Success of Recent Years

Virgil van Dijk Remains the World's Best Defender Virgil van Dijk's brilliance has become so reliable that it now risks being taken for granted. While new Liverpool manager Arne Slot made headlines by winning the Premier League in his debut season, and Mohamed Salah dazzled once again, Van Dijk was the constant force holding everything together. His influence is quieter now in the wider football narrative, but it remains just as powerful on the pitch. Advertisement In his second season as Liverpool captain, Van Dijk stepped up following Jurgen Klopp's departure and filled the leadership void left by Jordan Henderson. He didn't just cope with the pressure, he excelled under it, guiding Liverpool to a league title with composure, consistency and class. Photo: IMAGO Rock at the Back Van Dijk made 49 appearances across all competitions, anchoring a defence that was often rotated due to injuries and tactical changes. He didn't just survive the chaos, he provided calm through it. While he had the odd slip, such as a mistake against West Ham, his responses were swift, often followed by commanding performances or crucial goals. Advertisement His presence changes Liverpool's entire defensive line. When he is missing, the team visibly suffers. His positioning, reading of the game and aerial dominance are unmatched, making him a truly irreplaceable figure in the squad. Passing Range and Leadership What often goes unnoticed is Van Dijk's incredible passing. His long diagonals to Salah, Diaz or Gakpo are not just clearance kicks, they are measured attacks in themselves. This level of precision turns defence into attack instantly, giving Liverpool a key weapon in transition. As captain, Van Dijk has brought poise and unity to the club's new era. He rallied the players and even urged fans to create a sea of red in support. He's not only a tactical leader, but an emotional one too. Recognition Long Overdue Despite his impact, Van Dijk has not been widely included in Player of the Season discussions. Much of that is due to Salah's consistent brilliance, but it's also a reflection of how fans become desensitised to greatness. Advertisement Van Dijk is not just still world-class — he's still the best in his position. As Liverpool prepare for their future under Slot, Van Dijk's new contract is a massive boost. He remains the foundation of the team and the perfect leader for this next chapter. This is an abridged version; the full article is available on our 'It Was Always… Liverpool' Substack page:

Pallante throws 6 shutout innings, Cardinals have 5-run 8th in 6-1 win over Reds

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andre Pallante allowed two hits in six shutout innings and the St. Louis Cardinals used a five-run eighth inning to beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 on Friday night. Pallante (5-3) allowed a walk and a second-inning single to Matt McLain before leaving with a 1-0 lead after a broken-bat single by Elly De La Cruz to begin the seventh. Phil Maton got three outs to end it. St. Louis scored five runs off relievers Scott Barlow, Taylor Rogers and Tony Santillan — who retired one batter each. Masyn Winn drove in the first run with a single off Rogers and Lars Nootbaar's single off Santillan capped the rally after a two-out throwing error by Gavin Lux led to two runs. Brendan Donovan reached on a fielder's choice, took third on a Winn double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alec Burleson to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead in the third against Reds starter Brady Singer (7-5). Singer allowed one run on four hits and a walk in six innings, striking out seven and retiring his final nine batters. Santiago Espinal singled leading off the eighth against John King and scored on a throwing error by Jordan Walker on Jose Trevino's double to right field for the Reds' run. Thomas Saggese, was called up from Triple-A Memphis before the game, hit the grounder that Lux threw away. He replaced catcher Iván Herrera, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Cincinnati is 59-101 since 2006 at Busch Stadium. Key moment In the seventh, Maton got Tyler Stephenson to hit into a double play on his first pitch before striking out Spencer Steer swinging. Key stat Pallante entered with a 5-2 record and 2.18 ERA in six starts and 16 appearances against Cincinnati — tied with Harry Brecheen for the fourth-lowest ERA by a Cardinals pitcher against the Reds. Up next Reds LHP Wade Miley (1-0, 6.75) was set to start Saturday against RHP Sonny Gray (7-2, 3.84). ___ AP MLB:
