Pune: Pharma student killed in car accident; two arrested
A 21-year-old D.Pharma student walking on footpath died after being hit by a car near Atrashee Society in Sukhsagar area of Katraj on Friday afternoon, a police official said.
Shreya Yeole of Khandoba Temple area in Kondhwa was returning home from her internship at a private clinic in Gokulnagar around 2.30pm when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the car driver lost control, climbed footpath and the woman was trapped between a tree and the four-wheeler.
'She died on the spot. The car involved in the accident belonged to a private fleet operator and was assigned to one Satish Honmane, though it was being driven at the time of the incident by Dattatray Gadekar, who allegedly does not have a licence,' the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station official said.
Preliminary probe suggests Gadekar, who is not well-versed in driving, lost control of the vehicle and ran over Yeole, he said.
Police investigation found that Honmane was teaching driving session to his relative Gadekar when the accident took place.
'Honmane had allowed Gadekar to drive despite knowing he lacked a valid licence. Both have been arrested under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicles Act (MVA),' he said.

Worker run over by premium car while offloading it from trailer in Kochi
A man died and another was injured after being reportedly run over by a new Range Rover while being driven out from a trailer near the automobile company's yard at Chalikkavattom here on Sunday (June 22, 2025) around 11.30 p.m. The deceased was identified as Roshan Antony Xavier, 36, of Pandikudi in Mattancherry. The injured was identified as Anish. Though both were rushed to a nearby hospital, Roshan was declared brought dead. The Palarivattom police have registered a case against Anshad, who was engaged to offload the vehicles from the trailer. The incident took place along the service road of National Highway-66. According to the first information report (FIR), the car was driven out of the trailer in reverse gear at high speed knocking down both the workers standing on the trailer's ramp. The police booked Anshad under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125 (endanger life or personal safety through rash or negligent behaviour). He was released on bail. Reportedly, the deceased and the injured worker hardly had the time to respond and move away as the car came at them in a flash. The car knocked down a few electric posts in the area before coming to a halt after ramming an iron fence. 'The accused claims to have experience of driving the premium car having offloaded the same category car a couple of days ago. It seems a case of negligence. We have looked into all possible aspects and examined the CCTV footage from the area,' said Palarivattom police sources. The vehicles are offloaded along the service road along the national highway at Chalikkavattom since the trailer cannot enter the company's yard on the opposite side owing to low hanging lines.

ED questions D.K. Suresh in Aishwarya Gowda gold cheating case
Officials of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Monday questioned former MP, D.K. Suresh, in a money laundering case against city-based businesswoman Aishwarya Gowda, who had cheated several people on the pretext of gold business ventures posing as sister of Mr. Suresh. Aishwarya Gowda is alleged to have used the name of Mr. Suresh, who is the brother of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, to cheat several jewellers to the tune of ₹8 crore. She was arrested by the ED in April. Mr. Suresh was at the ED office for over six hours on Monday. After the questioning, Mr. Suresh said he had cooperated with the investigation, and officials had asked him to appear before the agency again on July 8. 'My name has been misused and I had already complained about it to the city police. Neither do I know her personally nor have had any financial transactions with her,' he said. The former MP further said that he wouldn't say ED was targeting him. 'Several people had given her money after she dropped my name. Many people who lost money have mentioned my name and hence ED had summoned me and I have cooperated with them,' he said. Properties attached Meanwhile, ED officials provisionally attached properties worth ₹3.98 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 related to Aishwarya Gowda and others for being found involved in the offence. The attached properties include immovable properties in the form of flats, constructed building, and land worth ₹2.01 crore and movable properties in the form of cash and vehicle, worth ₹1.97 crore, the ED said in a statement on Monday. The agency initiated the investigation on the basis of multiple FIRs registered at various police stations in the State against Aishwarya Gowda, her husband Harish K.N., and others under various sections of IPC and BNS. According to the complaint, Aishwarya Gowda, Harish and others entered into a criminal conspiracy to defraud and cheat several individuals by taking gold, cash and funds through bank accounts from them promising high rate of returns. However, the accused neither returned the money nor given the promised returns and also threatened the investors of dire consequences if they pursued the matter, by claiming her proximity to various high-profile politicians.

13yo patient raped at top govt hospital in Meerut
Meerut: A 13-year-old patient from Meerut -- admitted to the orthopaedics ward at a top hospital in the city -- was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 20-year-old man inside the women's washroom around 1 am on Sunday. The girl, a Dalit, was being treated for knock knees, and was accompanied by her mother at the facility's general ward. Police said the accused Rohit Kumar -- an attendant of another patient -- had followed the girl to the washroom and committed the crime. Her mother was asleep at the ward at the time. Kumar was held later in the day. Principal of the health facility said they have constituted a panel to probe the matter, and "will take strict measures to prevent such a crime in future." SP (Meerut city) Ayush Vikram Singh said, "The accused belongs to Kashipur, Uttarakhand. An FIR was registered against him under BNS section 65-1 (rape on a woman under 16 years of age) along with sections of Pocso Act and SC/ST Act at a local police station following a written complaint by the survivor's mother. The accused was arrested, presented before a court and incarcerated." In the FIR, the complainant stated: "My daughter was admitted to the orthopaedics department on Friday. The horrific incident took place when she went to the washroom. The man followed her and raped her. She then narrated her ordeal to me, and I approached the police..."
