2025 MLB odds: Bettors backing Detroit Tigers to win AL Pennant
With their 44-25 record, the Detroit Tigers are currently one of the best teams in Major League Baseball, sitting atop the standings in the AL Central.
And with all the success Detroit has had so far this season, bettors have taken note.
At BetMGM, the Tigers' odds to win the World Series opened at +4000. So a $10 bet on Opening Day would have pocketed $410 total if the Tigers end up winning the Fall Classic.
They're now all the way down to +800, where a $10 bet would only win $90 total.
But there's more.
In World Series futures at BetMGM, the Tigers have the third-highest ticket at 8.2%, behind the Dodgers (14.1%) and the Phillies (9.3%).
In the AL Central, they're the heavy favorites at -600, but also have the highest ticket (32.7%) and the highest handle (39.5%).
When it comes to the team with the shortest odds to win the AL pennant, that's the Yankees at +200. But it's the Tigers with the highest ticket (24%), the highest handle (23.6%) and the team that is BetMGM's biggest liability.
Let's take a closer look at Detroit's odds at BetMGM as of June 12.
Tigers to have most regular-season wins: +450 (bet $10 to win $55 total)
World Series: +800 (bet $10 to win $90 total)
To win AL: +300 (bet $10 to win $40 total)
To win AL Central: -550 (bet $10 to win $11.82 total)
AL Cy Young winner
Tarik Skubal: -220 (bet $10 to win $14.55 total)
AL MVP winner
Tarik Skubal: +10000 (bet $10 to win $1,010 total)
So are the Tigers really worth backing, after barely sneaking into the 2024 postseason with an 86-76 record?
FOX Sports MLB writer Rowan Kavner is "starting to believe," and that's largely because of Spencer Torkelson.
"[He] looks primed for a career year for a team that desperately needed more infield pop from somewhere," Kavner wrote. "I don't think this is a top-five team, but I do think this is a top-10 team and the best club in the AL Central."
FOX Sports' Deesha Thosar echoed a similar sentiment.
"The Tigers look like the real deal, especially because they're the only team in the AL Central with a positive run differential," she noted. "Detroit's only legitimate threat to win the division is Cleveland, and even then, the way the Tigers are playing right now, I'm expecting them to enjoy another trip to the postseason.
"The Tigers have a top-10 offense in baseball in terms of wRC+, and if they can sustain that level of dominance on both sides of the ball, then they might just have a deeper playoff run in their bones."

Former Clemson running back Marquise Henderson officially enters the transfer portal
Freshman athlete Marquise Henderson is officially in the NCAA transfer portal following his dismissal from the Clemson football program. Henderson announced on Friday that Clemson had submitted his notification of transfer, making him eligible to be recruited by other schools. The news came a day after Clemson confirmed his dismissal in a brief statement, offering no details about the decision. 'Clemson has made the decision to dismiss Marquise Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward,' the university said in a release. The Belton, South Carolina native joined Clemson as part of the 2024 signing class and enrolled in January 2025. He did not participate in the spring game and saw limited action during spring practices, as head coach Dabo Swinney noted in March that Henderson was working through a hamstring injury. Though he never suited up for the Tigers in a game, Henderson arrived with a strong high school résumé. At Belton-Honea Path High School, he was a record-setting running back who also contributed as a returner. He rushed for 6,369 yards on 577 carries — an average of 11 yards per attempt — and totaled just under 8,000 all-purpose yards across 47 games. His play helped lead his team to the 2024 Class AAAA State Semifinals, and he earned a four-star rating as a prospect. Henderson now becomes one of the more intriguing portal names among freshman athletes. Yankees RHP Luis Gil faces hitters for 1st time since straining his right lat
NEW YORK (AP) — Luis Gil faced hitters for the first time since straining his right lat in spring training, throwing about 20 pitches in a session New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone described on Saturday as 'free and easy." About two hours before the Yankees continued their three-game series with Baltimore, Gil notched four strikeouts — three swinging. Since several of the backups who would take part in live sessions were in the lineup, Gil threw to bullpen catcher Peter Serruto and information coordinator Ryan McLaughlin. 'I felt it looked really good,' Boone said. 'I think he was 95, 96. It looked every bit of that, looked like it. Just the metrics on the four-seam were really good and I thought he was in control of himself. So free and easy.' The Yankees are unsure of how many more times Gil will face hitters before progressing to a rehab game. Boone is hopeful the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year can return by the end of July. 'I felt really good out there,' Gil said through a translator. "It's been a long process. You heal little by little. It felt good to get on the mound to face some hitters.' Gil stopped a bullpen session on Feb. 28 because of tightness in his pitching shoulder. He went to New York for a second MRI that revealed a high-grade lat strain on March 3. Gil was shut down from throwing for at least six weeks after receiving the original diagnosis, and at the time the Yankees said he would not return until June at the earliest. On April 16, the Yankees said Gil's throwing program would be delayed for about 10 days. 'It's important. Fortunately, after the setback, it's been a slow build up, but it's gone well,' Boone said. 'It feels like kind of every step of the way. So that's been encouraging and now we start to build. We start to build lives, pitch counts and then eventually getting into rehab games. So definitely another important box to check.' The 26-year-old Gil went 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 29 starts for the AL East champions last year, striking out 171 and walking a major league-high 77 in 151 2/3 innings. Acquired from the Minnesota Twins in a 2018 trade, Gil made a successful return from Tommy John surgery and threw eight more innings in a pair of postseason starts as the Yankees reached the World Series for the first time since 2009. ___
