The 51-year-old, who worked at Penryn College in Cornwall, denies the charges.
When he was arrested and interviewed by cops, he said it was all "a figment of her imagination", CornwallLive reported.
Prosecutor Nigel Wraith said the pair had sex outside school, in his car and even at her home when her dad had been away.
Truro Crown Court was told that the teenager had been in love with her teacher but he told her to keep the relationship secret.
This was because he was a married man with children and he could lose his job and could go to prison.
The prosecutor told the jury that the relationship, which included two pregnancy scares, continued after she left school.
It wasn't reported to the police until her friends became concerned.
Truro Crown Court was told that there is no question of sexual assault or rape.
Harvey is facing two counts of inappropriate sexual behaviour with a 16-year-old girl while being in a position of trust and abusing that trust.
The alleged behaviour are said to have occurred several years ago.
While the age of consent is 16, this rises to 18 when someone holds a position of trust.
This is in order to protect pupils at school from potential inappropriate relationships with teachers.

Kneecap's Mo Chara to request Irish translator at court hearing
O hAnnaidh, stage name Mo Chara, appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday, accused of displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig in November last year. During the brief hearing, it was reported that the 27-year-old wanted to speak in Irish during the court hearing, but the judge said the court was unable to find a translator at that time. Kneecap's manager, Daniel Lambert, said on social media that the 'entire public gallery laughed' following the judge's request for a translator as people pointed to fellow Kneecap member DJ Provai, real name J J O Dochartaigh. Lambert wrote on X/Twitter: 'Funniest moment of today. 'The magistrate (judge) said the court had so far been unable to find an Irish translator. ''If anyone knows of one….' he said. 'The entire public gallery laugh and all point at DJ Próvaí (JJ) at the same time.' O hAnnaidh is expected to ask to be allowed to speak in Irish at the next hearing in August. Under the rules, O hAnnaidh's request may be denied as an interpreter is only normally provided in criminal cases where a defendant does not understand English. However, judges do have considerable say as to what happens in courts they are presiding over and may decide to allow the defendant to speak Irish, leading to the need for an interpreter. O hAnnaidh was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing at the same court on August 20. He received a round of applause outside the courtroom after the short hearing. A crowd of supporters had surged around the entrance of Westminster Magistrates Court yesterday in support of O hAnnaidh as they waved banners in support of the musician along with Palestinian flags. The band will play at show at Glasgow's o2 Academy next month.

Deputy headteacher, 51, who had sex with schoolgirl is married to former student and has children with her, court hears
A former deputy head teacher who is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old pupil is married to another former student, a court has heard. John Harvey, 51, who was an English teacher and safeguarding lead at Penryn College in Cornwall, allegedly had sex with the teenager in his car and at her home while her father was away. He is on trial this week at Truro Crown Court facing two counts of inappropriate sexual behaviour with the girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - while being in a position of trust and abusing that trust. Harvey denies the two charges in relation to alleged incidents which are said to have happened several years ago. Jurors heard today that Harvey, from Perranwell Station, is actually married to a former pupil of his with whom he has children and has been with for more than 20 years. She is not the alleged victim in the trial. Emma Stokes, who was also taught by Harvey for two years, told the court that Harvey's wife is her best friend, adding that she was a bridesmaid at their wedding and is a godmother to one of their children. She described the couple's relationship as very 'loving, caring, honest' and said they remained very much in love after all these years. Ms Stokes said: 'I've never had any reason to doubt or question anything about his behaviour. There has never been a moment that I have had any doubt whatsoever that he absolutely loves [his wife] and the girls.' Ms Stokes took to the stand as part of Harvey's defence and told the court that she was taught by him for two years and that they remain friends to this day. She met him during her time at the college where he taught her media studies for her two final years of school. She described how she still travels to Cornwall to spend time with the former teacher who taught her best friend at Penryn College. The former Metropolitan police officer turned transformational therapist, now of Milton Keynes, said: 'He was the best teacher I would say, in my opinion. He was the teacher that everybody wanted to be in the class with. 'He had this amazing respect for the pupils. He was very easily relatable and just made you feel heard and listened to.' Her two younger brothers also attended the school and were taught by Harvey. Her two nieces are still at the school, one of whom was also taught by Harvey for a time. Ms Stokes explained that Harvey is married to her best friend and that she was a bridesmaid at their wedding and is a godmother to one of their children. As such they have spent lots of social occasions together. Asked by the prosecution how she knew her best friend, Ms Stokes explained that they went to school together and were in the same year. She said they didn't have the same classes but confirmed that Harvey taught his partner English at school while she was taught media. 'I first became aware of their relationship when me and [Harvey's wife] were going to Truro College together,' she explained when asked what she knew of when their relationship first began. Ms Stokes' father, David O'Neil, also a former police officer, who served for Devon and Cornwall Police, also took to the witness stand during which he described Harvey as having 'integrity' and being 'an honest man'. That concludes the evidence in the trial.

Impersonator took theory driving test for person who couldn't speak English
Impersonator took theory driving test for person who couldn't speak English Qounain Khan, 23, was caught pretending to be the registered test taker after attending a test centre in Cardiff. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (Image: Darren Quinton/Birmingham Live ) An 'impersonator' was caught sitting a driving theory test on behalf of the person who was registered to take the test because their English was not good enough. He was found to have attempted to sit a number of theory tests at different centres over a period of two years. Qounain Khan, 23, attended a test centre in Cardiff on June 15, 2023, where he gave his name as an individual who was booked to undertake the theory test on that day. He also provided a bank card and ID, which he was required to do as part of the identification process. A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard Khan was challenged by an investigator from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter. The defendant maintained he was the individual but upon being shown a photograph of the person he was pretending to be, he accepted he was an impersonator. He told the investigator he had travelled to Cardiff by train from Birmingham in order to carry out the test and was due to be paid £300 if he passed. He also claimed he had "never done this before". But an investigation revealed Khan had attended a number of centres throughout Wales and England purporting to be a registered individual. Article continues below Prosecutor Justin Davies said the defendant was readily identifiable despite making changes to his hairstyle. Between November 22, 2021, and June 15, 2023, Khan had attended test centres on 12 occasions while disguised. Among the centres he attended were Cardiff, Chesterfield, Redditch, Worcester, Wolverhampton, Horley in Surrey, Dudley, Swindon, Bradford and Carlisle. On each occasion, except from the Cardiff centre, he had been turned away and was not allowed to take the test. Mr Davies said a passed test by an impersonator could attract a price between £1,500 and £2,000. Khan, of Edmund Road, Birmingham, later pleaded guilty to 12 counts of fraud by false representation and 12 counts of possessing an article for use in fraud. The court heard he was of previous good character. In mitigation, Elin Morgan said her client was just 19-years-old when his offending began. She said the defendant had become unemployed which led him to alcohol, gambling and cannabis misuse which led to him racking up a £20,000 debt to friends and family. Ms Morgan said Khan is now clean of drugs, is studying business, is a father and expecting another child, and is a registered carer for his mother. Sentencing, Judge Richard Kember said: "This was a long period of offending and it was sophisticated... This was designed to undermine the integrity of the standards of the driving test." Article continues below The judge said a "deterrent sentence" was needed in cases such as these. Khan was sentenced to a total of eight months imprisonment.
